Disney Coasters - How intense?

Now that Slinky Dog is running, how would you rate the coasters at WDW (The Barnstormer, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Expedition Everest, Primeval Whirl, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Slinky Dog Dash, and Space Mountain) in level of intensity from most to least intense?

I've not ridden them all, but from what I've seen, I'd say least intense is probably a close call between Barnstormer, and Seven Dwarfs. Next I would say come Big Thunder, then maybe slinky, followed by Space and Primevil pretty close together, and then Everest and Rock N Roller Coaster. Of those last two, I've only ridden Everest, so I can't really say what order they would be in, but I would say those right now are the two most intense coasters in Disney World.

It's so incredibly subjective. You could argue that Primeval is a wild mouse ride and not a roller coaster. Generally speaking I'd say, from least to most

Barnstormer
7DMT
Slinky
BTMRR
Primeval
Space
Everest
RnR

Barn
SDMT
SDD
BTMR
EE/SM
RnR

To me, Primeval Whirl doesn't really "fit" in the roller coaster list. It's movement is not really comparable to those above, because from my experience if you have a problem on Primeval Whirl, it's not because of a coaster thrill but rather the jerky/spinning movement of the ride vehicles themselves, and classified as a spinning coaster instead of a roller coaster. I'd put it at the same level of EE and SM perhaps, just because of the added movement.

I would add, for me, the only one that I feel is literally "intense" is RnR mainly because of the launch and loop.

Most to least:
  1. Expedition Everest
  2. Space Mountain
  3. Rock N Rollercoaster
  4. Big Thunder Mountain
  5. Primeval Whirl
  6. Seven Dwarves Mine Train
  7. Slinky Dog Dash
  8. Barnstormer
I will qualify real quick with this: Space Mountain wouldn't be that bad if the track felt stable. It always feels like the car is about to hop off the tracks. Rock n Rollercoaster has corkscrews and loops, but you are VERY securely fastened and it's indoors so not nearly as intense. Primeval Whirl can change depending on your input. If it's locked into place, it's just above Barnstormer, but if you let it whip and whirl you, it's higher on the list. I , personally, hate that ride.

I have a feeling you are going to get a vote for everyone being different.
My vote (least to most)
The Barnstormer
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Slinky Dog Dash
Primeval Whirl
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Expedition Everest
Space Mountain
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

ETA - I see I'm not the only one who had a hard time fitting PW in there. I've never thought of it as a coaster. I guess it can technically be one, since it is a car and it is on a track but when I usually think of coasters at Disney, it is not one on my mental list.

I often wonder, is there an adult that does like PW? Other than your local chiropractor who gets lots of new patients from those who ride it, LOL

Yes, exactly. Along those same lines, how would we classify Test Track? While it's not on a traditional metal track, it has some similarities to a coaster, especially the outdoor part.

I don't love PW, but then again I don't hate it. I have plenty of physical issues, but this ride really doesn't hurt me for whatever reason.

I just wanted to say that when I first read the title of this thread my thought was "What could possible be so intense about a little thing you set your drinks on??"

But the actual topic makes much more sense.

This is where I fit. I don't hate it but don't love it. DH hates it. So we normally skip it. DGD loves it. So it's one of the rides we typically send her off to do alone. We'll grab a FP for all of us and let her ride 3 times

Barnstormer
7DMT
Slinky
Primeval Whirl
Big Thunder
Space
Everest
RnR

I agree about PW probably not being best suited to the list. It's a strange one for me. Went on it once and hurt for sometime after (neck/back issues). Refused to ride it for a while but went on it again in May and it didn't seem as bad (didn't bother my back at all). I put Everest as more intense than Space just for the backwards portion.

Count me in for another "no" vote for Primeval Whirl. lol I just say "I don't like it." Don't loathe it, but I don't like it either... if the littles in my fam begged me, I'd ride it! ;)

We love WDW and go multiple times a year. I agree that RnR is 1, EE is 2, but beyond those I really would not qualify any of the rest as really intense. PW is a back breaker but not a coaster in the classic sense. We love, love, love coasters and have ridden a lot, from the original Cyclone on Coney Island to it's copy at Astroworld in Houston (before they closed Astroworld) to Six Flags over Texas, Six Flags in San Antonio, Six Flags in Atlanta, St Louis, New Orleans before it closed, Universal in Orlando, Sea World in San Antonio and California, Knotts Berry Farm and more and can say that if you talk to the true coaster enthusiasts that there is nothing at WDW that would even crack their top 20. Not slamming Disney at all but by comparison their coasters are relatively tame.

I don't even consider PW a coaster. I mean, technically it is, I've just never thought of it as one.

It's the bottom of the list to me. Maybe above Barnstormer? It's never done anything for me (I don't feel any level of intensity) at all but cause pain. We also have one at a local park though. I just don't get it

I do!! I'm not obsessed with it, but I enjoy riding it because it makes me laugh the entire time. I don't think I'd classify it as a coaster either, but it's just a fun ride for me it always makes me happy.

In response to the OP's question, I agree with most everyone here. For me it's actually a close call between RnR and EE. Waiting at the top of EE and then being dropped and riding backwards is pretty intense for me, and I like that there are bigger drops than RnR. I haven't ridden SDD though, so I'm just putting it where I've heard it ranks.

1. RnR
2. EE
3. Space
4. BTMRR
5. SDD
6. SDMT
7. Barnstormer

I didn't take that PP was asking if they were intense.
They were simply using that phrase to rank the coaster, from more intense to tame.

Sure, that's probably true. But the way I interpreted OP question was rating WDW coasters within their own group, and not against the most intense coasters in the country.

1) RnR 2) Everest 3) Space 4) BTMRR 5) Primeval 6) Slinky 7) Seven Dwarfs 8) Goofy.....IMO.....

I might reverse 1 and 2 but otherwise largely agree ( I haven't tried SSD yet).

Everest in my opinion is probably the only attraction which is especially jarring. It is outside, quite high, and really shakes.

I have been on all but SDD and am basing its position on videos only.
Barnstormer
7DMT
Slinky Dog
Primeval Whirl
BTMRR
Space Mountain
Everest
RnR

As others have said PW is totally diffferent as its more of a wild mouse. If its really spinning, then it would be close to Space Mountain, if its locked, then close to SDD.
RnR is the most intense in that it has the launch, loop and barrel rolls. Everest has the backward part and the speed. SM is just dark and more jerky than the others.
7DMT is super smooth and has some speed areas.
