Disney CM Text

I think it also detracts from the "magic" by coldly reminding people that all this tracking technology is at work behind the scenes. It can make a person feel more like a lab rat.

YES. I completely agree. This isn't customer service, it's a computer noticing things and sending out emails or texts or whatever. It's a name popping up on a screen. If I've met a CM and they took the effort to remember me and called me by name later that's one thing. But to just have my name pop up on a screen? That's no different than me reading a name tag at Starbucks and using the person's name.

I think that to have a Princess say a name of a child could be magical.

Not if it's pronounced wrong.

All of this name stuff reminds me of the worst at universal, namely, ET saying your name at the end of the ride. It's awful. There's nothing groundbreaking here.

Or a text message at 10:30 saying "We hope you enjoyed your 10:00am Fastpass ride on Expedition: Everest. We'd like to ask you a few questions about your experience...."

While I would have a huge issue with the restaurant one, this doesn't bother me. They can see that the FP was used, so what's weird about asking you how it was?

Intrusive. I don't want my vacation days to become like work day schedule and micromanaged like my Internet browsing, where everything requests a survey and presents and ad before you can continue.

At least in that situation you could just ignore it. It's not like when the CMs ask you to do a survey. Then you actually have to tell them no. -shrugs- I guess it's simply a situation of to each their own, because that simply wouldn't bother me, but obviously it does you.

It's not this one thing, it's the trend. Just because you have my phone number doesn't mean I give you permission to engage me all the time using it. Don't manipulate my experience by watching what I do and where I go and then present me with targeted ads or deals or anything else that targets me. This would be viewed as illegal in many Europe countries by the way.

My email and my browser has become a wasteland of things being shouted at me because everyone and their uncles are mining data and attempting to influence me, survey me, sell to me, sell to me, sell to me. I don't want Disney, or my vacation, to do that. I work in industry and know how this works. Companies don't mine this data to be nice and provide you with magical moments. Disney might do that, but for every one, they are hatching 9 ways to get you to spend more money.

Consider this DIStopia (get it?): While waiting in line screen after screen uses your favorite Disney characters to tell you about the deals waiting for you in the shop at the end of the ride. When you hold your MagicBand up to your room door lock, a pop up screen shows you the dinner specials at the restaurant for 20 seconds before your door will open. Everyone says happy birthday to you even though you aren't wearing a button and don't really want everyone doing that (and singing to you at dinner without asking.)

I've only used magic bands at the hotel and for park entrance so I'm not sure if I follow. You didn't have a fastpass, were just waiting in the line on standby and they knew you were there? Do those have GPS as well?

I don't really care (I always say that if anyone spent a day following me around they would find it's pretty official that I have no life LOL) but the only thing is that it lets them know the best time that my room is going to be empty. Again, I don't have valuables and sure don't take them along with me but still...

Other than that, it's great service!

Hi, I am the poster whose "mousekeeper" just walked in on my last day. For the most part, MM+ was non-invasive during my trip. I was one of those "tinfoil hat" people, worrying about invasiveness of tracking etc. and until that last day, found nothing wrong with the Magic Bands or the website (except that the website did not function well in the parks). I was startled. I was concerned. I still wonder who has access to my individual MM+ account. I believe the whole system was designed to improve staffing efficiency and maximize per guest spending. I don't believe it has anything to do with enhancing my guest experience. I'm going back in 2018 and considering privacy options for my travel party.

I love Disney, both WDW and DL/CA. I will find "work-arounds" to make my vacation what I want...including "tin foil" if I have to.

I agree completely with you. I refuse the MBs, and get a card for our room key instead. I don't want to be tracked around WDW. It's not their business how long it takes me to eat my lunch or how long I spend in the bathroom. I also use the RFID sleeves on all my credit cards or whatever has a chip in it.
