Disney CM Text

True but rumor is even though magicbands are headed there something along the same lines is.

Actually the rumor is that changes are coming with the FP system, but that they don't include magic bands.

If someone's got a phone number in their MDE profile, it's not unimaginable for that information to be accessible.

I believe this is exactly how Disney contacted me once, from the details associated with my Disney account. Around six months ago I posted a question on Disneyland's Facebook page and didn't provide any contact info (assumed they would reply to my post), and my Facebook has very strict privacy settings - email is private, no phone number listed, only friends can see my location, etc. A couple days after I post my comment, in the middle of the night, I'm woken up by a Disneyland CM calling to offer assistance (I'm in Australia, so it would have been the start of the business day in the States). All she had to go from was the name on my profile, so I can only guess that she looked me up in their system or something and took a gamble that it was the same person. It was a mix of a bit strange but a bit awesome at the same time.

I think those little touches are pretty neat, last time I was there, they used the magic bands to locate my gramma and our family coming out of the hall of the presidents (my grammas favorite- she loves the Lincoln.) to wish her a happy birthday. They used the house phone and said she had a phone call and it was goofy giving birthday wishes.

I think the story from Pirates and the saying hi with your name is very cool. That's super service! :earsboy:

This is exactly the kind of thing MM+ was implemented to be able to do, along with many others. It always astounds me when people say idiotic things like "Disney spent $2 billion on FP+", it really shows an inability to grasp the concept of what MM+ is and all of the capabilities on both an operational and analytic side.

I've spent enough time on the DisBoards that I'm no longer astounded when people say "idiotic things", but I couldn't agree with you more. It wasn't $2 Billion on FP+. It was FP+, and the MDE app, and the MagicBands, and logging everything you do on property. Now CMs can mysteriously address you by name (or creepily depending how one looks at it), and mousekeeping can show up in your room when they think you should be in the park using your FPs, and CMs can send you texts with extra FP when your MagicBands don't work or the ride you are in line for breaks down.

All I can say, is that if I am one day in a restroom on property and a restroom attendant comes in and says something like.....

"Mr. Metzgar.....Mickey told me you were headed in here. And the sensor in the stall said it was low on paper. So, here ya go. And have a Magical Day®!"

.....while unceremoniously sliding a spare roll of paper under the door, I will hit the ceiling.

(I kid, I kid....or do I? :scared: )

This scenario is kind of ridiculous. Disney custodial staff never lets the stalls get that low on paper, they are constantly monitoring the video feeds and can tell when they need to be refilled. More likely you'll receive a text message "Mr. Metzgar, Mickey noticed you spent 15 minutes in that stall, here's a coupon for 10% off a salad at Columbia Harbour House, just a short walk away in Liberty Square!"

No joke. I got an email from Disney stating they noticed I spent a lot of time near bog and gave me a voucher for lunch. I had rode haunted mansion about 40 times that day.

I don't know how they do it....

I was just telling a Co-worker that my mother's caregiger, same room as Mom but different res# than kids and I, has a duplicate MDE identity and I had to fix it before getting too deep into planning.

Within 5 minutes, I received an email from Disney offering me help planning my vacation for my extended group. It gave me a phone number to call if I needed help with FP+, planning, dining, etc.

I think they must put a chip in us AP holders. Im not wearing my MB right now or anything.

They can track MDE activity just as easily as they can track MB activity. They probably have some pattern recognition algorithms that matched your MDE activity to a pattern that indicates you were setting up an extended group and the system shot off an automated email. As the data acquired by MM+ matures they will be able to get better algorithms and offer more and more specialized services/deals/perks based on patterns and behaviors.

Data is fun stuff if you use it right.

I'm not really that creeped out about it to be honest. I think it's pretty awesome that they can have such great customer service. But there needs to be an opt out. My dad would be HORRIFIED if this happened to us.

Thanks for the reminder that I shouldn't put too much of Mom's information when I set up her information on MDE this week because of preparations. Mom would be creeped out at best if that happened.

I have mixed feelings about this. I love the extra customer service but realizing that they know so much is a little weird.

Love it! Customer service at its best!!!! Absolutely awesome.

Part of this, is not tracking you but your plans on MDE. If you have a FP for 3 to 4 they can tell who did not use when it was down. I recd email offering alternatives. Same thing with housekeeping. If they were tracking you, they wouldn't enter the room while you are there.

Obviously if they say your name in the park, they are reading the magic band. When you go thru FP your name pops up on a screen. For those who are creeped out just wear alum foil on your head so big brother can't read your mind. :rolleyes1

Calling it tinfoil hat paranoia is a silly straw man. Many, myself included, would find it jarring to suddenly be addressed by name by a complete stranger, or get a text that says "I see that you did or did not do X." I think it also detracts from the "magic" by coldly reminding people that all this tracking technology is at work behind the scenes. It can make a person feel more like a lab rat.

The part of "you should have been on space mountain right now" is crazy. With just DH and I and after a whole bunch of trips, there are times we have let FP's go, just because we didn't feel like making the effect to get going. Or perhaps I left and DH is taking a nap. Yes, we should have the door locked, but then I'd have to wake him up to get back into the room.

I actually find this to be a positive development. Thus far all the changes ushered in by FP+/MM+ have been a net negative to me and my family and I was honestly wondering if we'd ever get a chance to see the positives (remember when it was first announced and we were told that Scuttle in the VOTLM would greet us by name and there would be personalized goodbye messages at the end of Small World?). This I see as a positive, it certainly doesn't make up for messing with my FP classic, but it is a step in the right direction. If we are going to be constrained by this brave new Disney world, I want the good along with the bad.
