Has anyone noticed discounts equal to the Disney Club's discount with National Car rental. When I plugged in my AARP discount club code at National's Website I got the same discounted price as with the Disney Code I found on mousavers.com. AARP's code is 6100120. I believe the Disney Club code is 5901600. In either case you have to present the card showing membership. AARP membership may be a cheaper option to get car rental discounts. It costs $10-$15 whereas Disney Club cost at least $39.95. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Are there any other benefits to the Disney Club other than the cheap car rental rate?

The DC renewal if $29.95 plus you get food discounts, room discounts, attraction discounts and is also to be used for "Entertainment" discounts. Well worth the money to me.

BobH,
I have tried several codes with National, from the DC code to the AP code, to BJ's code, plus coupons, and they all come out to the same rate....very high! Either all these codes are giving the exact same percentage off of the rental, or something is wrong with the National site. I have even cleared all my cookies, and tried again and again.

There are a few extra perks with the DC card that you wouldn't get with the AARP club, (ex: 10% off at the Disney Store, 10% off at several DTD stores, and certain discounts for lunch at WDW) but as far as renting a car, for now the DC membership doesn't offer any more than AARP except for a coupon good for one free weekend day. :):D:)

This year I found that the Emerald Club Discount (National's own discount) was better than DC for the first time. It's free to join as a DC member. I have also found that as my trip dates near, the rates for the cars come down, so I rebook. This year already I have knocked off over $100 on my 10 day rental. Last year was the same. And with the Emerald Isle service you just go into the garage and get into any car in the Isle, drive to the exit window and leave, no waiting in line in the terminal. The rates however are higher than last year.

I retried the following this morning and this is what I got for rates from http://www.nationalcar.com

This was for a rental starting Feb 9th & return Feb 14th

Code for AARP 6100120
Put it in the Contract ID line

Airport was MCO (Orlando)
Full Size $206.95
Premium $242.65
Luxury $287.40

Code for Disney Club 5901600 from http://www.mousavers.com
Put it in the Contract ID line

Airport was MCO
Full size was $206.95
Premium was $296.99
Luxury was $287.40

--------------------------------------

When no codes were used

Full Size $279.95
Premium $296.99
Luxury $359.95

On a full size car the price with the codes was $73 less using eithe AARP or Disney Club code number. The AARP code saved $54.34 on a premium car but there was no savings over regular prices using the Disney Code. On a luxury car the savings came to $72.55 using either code.

Cindala - I don't know what size car you specified. Perhaps there were no savings on certain size rentals. I used the AARP code for a rental last May in Savannah and the savings quoted on National's computer site showed that I paid about $80 less for a premium car. I usually go to Budget, Dollar and Alamo sites and compare prices to see if the deal is a good as it looks. Bottom line I feel is that they have a rack price that you can pay and a discounted price that you might get if you dig deep enough. Good Luck. I hope this information helps.

BobH,
Thanks for the information. I too tried several codes, even no code, and the rate was the same. I am looking at July of 2003, so maybe it's too far out to get a good rate.

I put in for National's Emerald Aisle Service for a full size car since full, standard and intermediate are all the same price anyway. I am looking at 8 days, and the rates are about $403 with National, and about $350 with Dollar. I even checked Avis, and their rate was the best so far, about $283, possibly $258 if I use a My Avis coupon.

I almost feel like there is a spy on my computer, and everytime I plug into National's site, someone is saying "AhHa, she's back....!", and I'm not getting the best rate possible. That is why I keep clearing any cookies. I guess I'll just have to wait and be patient, and hope a better deal comes along.:):D:)

cindala, your date explains why NHOL isn't working. That code is only valid through 2/8/03.
