I just received a letter from the Disney Club at work (I was a club director) informing me that the Club will be ending on December 31, 2003. The letter states that all Disney Club memberships (including non corporate ones) will expire at that time and that benefits will also continue until that time.

When I read that DC would no longer be valid for park admission discounts, I figured this would be next.

This makes me wonder about Disney's plans to offer a VISA "rewards" credit card. Maybe all the perks/benefits formerly part of the DC will somehow end up in the "rewards" program. Just a thought.

So I just, 5 minutes ago got my roomrate booked for May 2003 reduced, but my DC membership expires 11/02.

Do I get to keep that reduced rate if I can't renew my DC membership for 2003?

Why would they be offering 2003 DC discounts if Disney Club was ending? My aunt just purchased a new DC membership within the last month, too.

The letter I received states that they will stop processing new memberships and renewas after December 12, 2002. Benefits will continue until the expiration of your membership (If they don't renew any memberships after 12/12/02 all memberships will be expired by 12/31/03).

That's good! thought they had me on a technicality!

Hi

Sorry. To clarify what I wrote... All benefits for unexpired cards will continue until the card expires. (All cards will expire by 12/31/03).

Wish I knew that an hour ago...

I spent over 40 minutes making ressies for next November with the DC discount - 20%. I was very happy. They informed me at the end of the session about the Club ceasing to exist in 2004. My membership ends in 5/03 and so I will not be able to get the discount. I confirmed this with guest services.

I would have been nice to know all this before making the ressie. Guest services said that everyone will be getting a letter soon. They also said something about Disney VISA taking over but couldn't give me any details about that.

My disney club expires in Feb.2003. I have a National reservation with my DC. If I can't renew what happens to my National discount?

Do you actually have to show your card? If you've been given the rate I think you get to keep it - you never show the card when you check into a Disney resort - do you? You have to show that you have one when you make the reservation.

Annual passe rates are a different story.

One potential option for those looking to use confirmed discounts after the date that your current DC membership expires. Open a second membership. If the discount you would be getting (say 20% on a resort if you couldn't find another discount) is more than the $30 or $40 membership fee it may be worth it. I believe they will accept new memberships thru Dec 12, 2002.

Mine expires in Jan, but we're going in Feb (I was planning on renewing) Should I try to renew now?

I too am a chapter director here at my business - here is the question and answer sheet that was enclosed.

1. I have alot of DC materials at my locations, now that the club is ending, what do I do with them?
Please discard all DC materials immediately. Posters should be removed from posted locations, and any DC info on your company's intranet or Internet sites must be removed.

2. We have DC/Sampler info and a link on our company intranet/internet site. Can we keep it "live" until Dec. 12, 2002 or should we remove it now?
A. Please remove it now.

3. We are out of DC materials. Can I order just enough enrollment forms to last until 12/12/2002?
A. No.

4. How will members find out about the close of DC?
A. We will send letters that explain the close of the Club and its effect on individual membershis in October.

4. Many of my employees are members of DC. Will their benefits continue after 12/12/2002?
A. Yes. Individual Member benefits will continue through the expiration date on their membership card or 12/31/2003, whichever comes first.

6. I have an employee leaving for a Disney vacation in two months. Can they still join the DC?
A. Yes, DC membership applications will be accepted until 12/12/2002.

7. If I have more questiobs where can I reach you......
A. They give a phone number here - for chapter directors.

8. What if my employees have questions about Membership.
. Individual members will be receiving letters that explain the close of the club in Oct. but they can go to www.disneyclub.com for detailed info or call Disney's Club's 800 phone number.

This letter came from Dinah Keefe - Disney Club VP. The letter ended saying "Closing the DC on 12/31/2003 has been a difficult decision to make. We thank you for your continuing support and for being a special part of the club." Well, let's hope whatever is next has some nice benefits. I will miss it and find it amusing that they gave chapter directors a long distance number to call with questions!   :(

This really sucks!! Sorry had to vent. As the mother of 2 Toy Story fanatics, I am constantly shopping at the disney store, whether online or at the store.

I really use my Disney Club discount alot. I get a lot of clothes for my boys there.

Also, with a trip coming up in May, I was planning on getting a discount at the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. Last year all my souvenirs were bought there and I save a small fortune.

Should I open another account and this way I'll have savings for at least one more year?

Opinions Please.

What else is to come.

No more hotel discounts????

I wrote the Disney Club at guest.mail@disneyclub.com to express my concern and disapointment. I would recommend anyone else to do this to. I doubt it will do much. This is probably another edict from Ei$ner to save money but who knows.

If everyone calls to complain (we just did), at least we'd all be heard by someone.....

Even if they don't want to listen.

My card expires at the end of November (next year). and I have no way to extend the life of my card.

Oh well- we'll see what the Disney VISA card brings for bennies.

:( :( :( :( :(

I am soooo upset, I know the discount was not huge, but I am almost ready to cancel our June 2003 trip. I guess it just disappoints me a bunch more then anything.
