Disney Chix Do Disney on Land & Sea! Updated 8/18/08 LBD's, AP & a Fond Farewell

Thanks for reading ladies!!! I am working on the next installment! It should be up by this afternoon! :cool1:

So last I left you, we finally had all our bags and were finally headed to The Magical Express!!! WOOHOO!!! After what seemed like forever to get to the end of the terminal, we finally found the line for the Magical Express. It was sorta full, but the lined seemed to be moving quickly. The CM at the end of line informed us only one person from our party needed to get in line, so Judy took all our paperwork and hit the line while we waited with our luggage. After 5 minutes, she was back and we were headed to “the red throw rug”! (I guess you have to appreciate the fact that it’s a “red carpet” just for you, but it was definitely anti-climatic! (JMHO) As we waited, you could just feel the electricity in the air from all these people/families ready to embark on the most magical vacation of their lives! All the kids were excited and I don’t think I heard a harsh word from anyone! We only waited about 15 min before we would let through for a bus!! Now, I had read on these boards about the cool video on the bus as you head to your resort…but not for us! Our bus was actually a Disney Cruiseline bus and I guess they didn’t have the resort/parks video on there. But, that was OK…we were headed for POR!!!

After a brief stop at POFQ, we made it to POR!!! What a gorgeous resort!!
POR-1.jpg

We made our way in and registered for our rooms. We were in Magnolia Bend, Bldg 85, 3rd floor! Luckily they gave us a map or we would have been wandering aimlessly for hours! That resort is huge but absolutely beautiful!!!

We also checked in with the cruise desk and took care of all that paperwork so we would be able to go right through the terminal when it was time for our cruise. The CM’s were so nice and very friendly. (and patient, as we asked many questions.) The CM working the DVC desk was very funny and kept trying to get us to go see him, but we were way too excited to get to our room. I had a great picture of him, as he was taking a picture of all of us in the foyer and took one of himself instead…however, I lost it. Darn!

We ended up with adjoining rooms, which we had asked for, and were greeted by a few critters. (These would be the only one’s we saw all the 4 days we were here.)

This cute guy has found a home in my upstairs bathroom!

After settling in, we headed out to:
IMG_0819.jpg

to catch the bus to Epcot, as this was the last night of the Food & Wine Festival and we thought this would be a good start to the vacation.

:surfweb: Hi Gayle

So glad to be reading yet another TR from a peep of mine. Wait I need something to eat while I wait for the next installment popcorn::

Laura :flower3:

Gayle - how funny :lmao: we were posting at the same time. Just read the next installment. I love POR. Did you like Magnolia Bend? Are they the only ones with adjoining rooms (in POR I mean because that's where we are staying when we go in 2009)? I know, a lot of questions from someone who is going not until 2009 but I like to plan ahead, a lot ahead.:goodvibes

I  Magnolia Bend! The rooms were very nice and the grounds were amazing! I would think they have adjoining rooms in other areas, but I really don't know. We had requested both Magnolia Bend and adjoining rooms and got them both! You gotta plan ahead to be completely ready!!! :woohoo:

No video? What a bummer!

I have ONE video and that's it! If you behave, maybe I'll include it! ;) (Let's just say, it's blackmail material for others to use against me! )

I love the new pics! You all look so excited!

So…we are waiting at the East Depot of POR for our bus to Epcot. At this point it’s around 5pm and we are very excited, but a little tired since we’ve been up since 4AM! Within 10 min the bus arrives and we are on our way!!!:woohoo: Now you may be asking why we are heading to Epcot on our first night….FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL of course!!! This was the last night and we thought it would be fun to check it out and have our first “drinks” of the trip! (Oh yeah we had food too!) It seemed to take no time at all and we are at Epcot and entering through the gates to this glorious sight…..
IMG_0823.jpg

(OK, I am of the old school and love Spaceship Earth without the arm!!! That was how it was the year it opened and my first memories of it, and that is how it should be! JMHO)

We hurried our way to World showcase to begin our tasting!
IMG_2325-1.jpg

(Now, I apologize here for the lack of food porn, as I was the only one snapping pics of all we ate and that was in the group of pics I lost!) We were very adventurous and tried many foods we would not have ordinarily tried. I know we had escargot (snails) and quiche in France, baklava in Turkey, Spanakopita and Greek salad in Greece….I’m sure there was more, but I really can’t remember. (Thanks to theDisneyFamily for their lists so I can at least remember this much!) As we were hurrying through we were trying to decide whether or not we would keep our ADR’s at Sci-Fi Drive In at MGM or not. We knew this was one of the main things MJ wanted to do, so we decided we would. Well, they were for 7:30, so at 6:30 we headed out of Epcot and caught the bus to MGM.

We made it in plenty of time, but MGM was insane!!!! There were people everywhere as they were lined up for a parade and we had to literally fight our way through the crowd to get to Sci-Fi. Yes, this was also the final night of Soap Weekend at MGM, which really explained a lot. We got to dinner and were seated very quickly in our car. I sat in the middle alone and proceeded to look at the menu. I realized I really wasn’t that hungry, but we were here, so I should eat. Now, there was one major staple menu item for a drive-in missing from this menu…HAMBURGERS!!!! Wasn’t that the main thing you order at the drive-in??? :confused3 I thought I had remembered you could ask for them, so we did and 4 of us ended up with cheeseburgers. Judy had a steak. We enjoyed the meal, but I left ½ my burger and fries. We also had milkshakes, which were delicious!!! I think that was the best part!

After dinner we headed out into the street and again/still there were people everywhere! There was a concert going on and honestly, some of these soap stars have no business trying to sing! One girl “screamed” her entire song and it was LOUD!!!! We checked out the stores and Pam bought a cute headband for MVMCP the next night.

While we were shopping, I was standing near a young mother with a baby in a stroller. (The baby was probably 5-6mos old.) I heard a noise and as a Mom you know “that noise”! The baby had gotten sick ALL OVER and was none to happy about it! Now, being the grandma that I am, I couldn’t just walk away and leave this poor panicked mother to deal with it alone. Sooooo….I pulled out my antibacterial wipes and as she cleaned her son, I cleaned the stroller. Funny how instincts take over and you don’t even think about the fact you are cleaning up a stranger’s puke, just that it needs to be done! She was very grateful and her friend who came over looked at me with disbelief that I was actually helping to clean up this poor child! I was just glad I could help. They left, with him wrapped in her friend’s sweatshirt, to head back to their room. I hope he was OK.

After this, we decided to head back to our rooms, as we were exhausted and really needed to sleep! Being up 19hrs had finally taken it’s toll!
