Is there anyone else out there who wishes they'd go back to showing Disney shows? It just seem so dumb to me, as a premuim family channel they had no competition, as a preteen channel they narrowed their audience and have competition with the better Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Another major problem with the channel is that so many of the shows are girl shows, I heard one person say how her nephews wouldn't go to Disney Land because they had learned from the channel that Disney is for girls. It is true, That's So Raven, Lizzie Mcguire, and then even Kim Possible might be as well. This channel used to be great, it showed old Mickey Mouse Shorts, Goofy's How-To's, Wonderful World of Disney, Ludwig Van Drake, Disney movies, and tours through the park. One of the greatest things was that it was advertisement free, you knew it was really on the air for quality and entertainment. The only commercials were just to say watch this show at this time, it was just such a fun channel. but ofcourse it could still help increase profits becuase it was advertising the Disney brand non stop. The new wave of shows on Disney are not at all Disney shows, and it's shameful that the channel is even called the "Disney" channel anymore. I remember how happy I was when the channel finally moved to cable back in the mid late 90's, I also remember how dissapointed I was once I realized it wasn't the Disney channel which had come to cable.

Absolutely. This has come up as a topic before, and it's true that many of us feel Disney Channel has become a wasteland.

It was the final straw for me when they axed Vault Disney - which aired in the middle of the night which was terrible, but at least it was there.

I've written letters, both e-mails and snail mails to the Disney Company about this and never once got a response.

I don't even bother with Disney Channel anymore.

Yes, I agree too. My sons are 5 and 7 and they really don't want to watch the Disney channel right now. The morning shows are for younger kids and the afternoon shows are mostly for girls. They do like Lilo and Stitch when they can catch that.

I used to like watching House of Mouse, but I rarely see that on anymore.

I miss the '80s Disney TV! We used to stay inside almost all day when we got the Disney channel free preview weekend (when it was a premium channel). I ADORED the New MMC, Kids Incorporated, Avonlea.... My sister couldn't get enough of Under the Umbrella Tree and Dumbo's Circus... I wish they would bring those back!!!

I was thinking this the other day! I miss the "old" Disney channel from about 5 or 7 years ago. I really miss the park tours that they showed too! It was a great Disney fix!

I miss Vault Disney too!! Hated that it was on in the middle of the night, but used to tape shows to watch later.

I never watched the 'old' disney channel. But I have an 8yo dd, so I love the new one. Personally, I don't think Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon are better for the pre-pre teen set. Sorry, I don't think kids' programming needs to have an 'edge'. But I can see why you all are frustrationed, because it is pretty market-specific.

Oh, I do love Lizzie Maguire though! :) If they could have had Lizzie on in the '80s when I loved it, that would have been great!!!!!

Disney Channel is relatively "new" for us. We've had it for about 5 yrs. now. I remember Vault Disney but do not remember MMC or some other shows that have been mentioned. When we first got DC, Bear and the Big Blue House was just getting popular.

I miss "So Wierd". I loved that show -- sort of an X-Files for the junior set.

DS8 likes Even Stevens and Lilo and Stitch and when some of the "boyish" movies come on (ie: H-E-Double Hockey Sticks, Luck of the Irish, Brink). We also enjoy Phil of the Future. DS will watch Lizzie McGuire and Raven w/me ... but only if I've put them on. He doesn't elect to watch them on his own. And, that Hercules type thing - he's not into that.

I do agree w/the poster who stated that there need to be more "boy" shows. And, I'd love to have seen some of the park tours.

Boy, sounds like I missed out on some great Disney programs in the past! :guilty:

You can buy Under the Umberella Tree on dvd now. Just go here: http://www.cinerioentertainment.com/shopCart/index.aro?srch=Under :teeth:

I'm not a big fan of Disney's latest trend at only focusing on the "Tween" demographic lately.

I'm still not happy that they felt rerunning their line-up late at night was better than keeping Vault Disney on their channel. Consequently, Disney Channel has suffered the same fate as the shopping & country music stations on my TV - *erased*.

I have a feeling the reason they did that is to try to sell the shows via DVD instead of showing them for "free".

They should start a second Disney Channel. Keep the current one as-is, but show old Disney cartoons, "Wonderful World of Color", Zorro, etc. on the 2nd channel. Like ESPN Classic--it could be the Classic Disney Channel! ::MickeyMo

Well, we get a ton of Disney channels. My Dson adores Power Rangers, which is on that channel (also ABC Family I think). The Jetix line up is pretty boy friendly. Some of the shows are lame, but I think overall the selection is good. Of course, that is taking into account all of the Disney channels we get.

Thanks Nikki! I just forwarded it to my sister!! :)
You're quite welcome. :) As for me, I miss the old Disney channel shows. Growing up in the '80s, I remember shows such as Dumbo's Circus, You & me kid, MMC, Welcome to Pooh Corner, etc. I wish they would bring them back.

I totally miss Vault Disney(bring back the orginal MMC!). I wish they would bring that back. Remember the neat way it started with the kids on a ride? I agree that the Disney channel seems to be leaning more towards the girlie side. Other than Phil of the Future the last show I can think of with a male lead was The Famous Jett Jackson. Although I do have to say I really love Kim Possible :).

I remeber the 90's Dis and Nick.. so much better. I really enjoyed it more. I do like some of the new teen shows, but I can get that on MTV

I don't think the Disney chanel is what it used to be either. Lizzie Mcguire and that's so raven are so lame, i wanna see more movies and animated stuff

while the "new" Disney channel drives me crazy because they show the same shows, over and over again, my DD who is 9 loves it. We have had Disney channel for over 20 years (back when it was a pay station like HBO) and since the new line-up, the Disney channel is on more now than it ever was during those years. I look for this to change when she gets older, but its nice that she has a channel that she can watch and enjoy. We also get Toon Disney that shows some of the older stuff that the boys will watch at night.

We get several different Disney channels on satellite (Toon Disney, Playhouse Disney, etc.), and we find PLENTY for boys, at least for young ones. Power Rangers, Buzz Lightyear, Tarzan.....

For the poster who likes House of Mouse, if you get Toon Disney it is on every morning at 6:30 am, we watch it getting ready for work/school.
