We just aren't watching that much TV and the cable bill keeps going up.

So, we are going to cut the cord. I don't know how yet. We do have a rooftop antenna but we don't get great reception where we are. It is ok, but not great.

We aren't sports watchers, so that isn't a big deal.

Youngest watches those Disney teen/pre-teen type shows. Can we get those anywhere else?

Otherwise the rest of us don't care about going to just OTA channels and a Tivo.

We have hulu plus, it has a bunch of those Nick and Disney pre and teen shows. Plus loads more for kids and adults. We don't have cable but we have more than we could want with hulu and amazon prime and roku.

Last time we had Hulu there weren't very many. I don't know if they have added more or not, but the ones they had were old also.

I wonder if there is a way to see without subscribing.

I know that in 2016 Hulu had some new deal with Disney Chanel and Netflix definitely has a few of the "tween" tv shows. There are also a ton of other options with the internet, too :)

Netflix has a lot of the really stupid Disney shows. And they also have a lot of good tween/kids stuff that is better than the Disney stuff, so that's what I would go with.

I think PlayStation Vue offers the Disney channel. We are thinking about cutting the cord (again) as well, but want to try PlayStation Vue first because we have tried Sling in past and were not impressed, so maybe PlayStation Vue will work for us. :)

I am intrigued with the idea of the Hulu Live coming out in May. I plan to do a trial of it.

But I specifically asked about the shows he likes and watches. The idea that the ones he likes are dumb or there are better shows out there is completely a matter of opinion.

You didn't name shows- I just meant that they have a selection of a lot of those shows, and he's likely to find something he's interested in. Sure it's a matter of opinion but I'm not sure anyone can argue those shows are well written or intelligent.

But one thing about Hulu or netflix- nothing is going to totally replace the Disney channel if he has specific shows he wants to watch. The only way to get those specific shows is buy them on something like iTunes. The services like Hulu and netflix rotate their selection quite a bit, and a lot of stuff they don't keep long term. When we want to follow specific shows, we either pay for a specific service that we know has the show or we buy episodes. Hulu and netflix are good if you just want a tv alternative.

If it were just a matter of "any teen shows" then yes, he can find something. He specially likes to watch the Disney channel and I am quite sure he likes what you would consider stupid. So what? Those are the shows he would like to know about. Not necessarily specific ones, and I would need to ask him. He often has it on in the background, but he likes the Disney channel.

It doesn't matter if I name shows or not, I asked about the channel. I wasn't looking for your personal opinion on whether he should watch them or not.

Netflix has a bunch of the Disney pre teen/ teen shows that I think you're talking about...you can google Disney "tween" shows on Netflix and a list comes up. My kids also watch full episodes on YouTube. Hope that helps!

Heck, *I* like the Disney Channel. I may or may not have watched iCarly even when DD wasn't home. Once my DH was interviewing a seriously hard core Metal band for his radio show out in our garage. One by one the guys would go in to get a drink or use the restroom but they never came back out. I went in and they were all on my couch sucked into iCarly. :rotfl2:

Anyway, the problem is that the cable companies/powers that be/networks all got together and decided no more free tv. You used to be able to watch anything on the internet but now you have to sign in with a provider to get full seasons of shows. You can watch episodes but if your DS wants full/current seasons of shows you need to know what shows specifically he likes so you can choose the service accordingly. Honestly, it's why I haven't cut the cord because I like to be up on the current seasons. Getting a subscription from iTunes/Vudu/Amazon won't really save you much if there are a lot of shows he wants. If he's like my kids and will watch the same shows over and over no matter how many times they've seen them Netflix and Hulu might be enough. The only way to know is to get the free trials and try them out.

Thanks for all the answers.

It looks like Hulu Live may not be what I want either. I did a little more research and it will be $40 but if you want the capability to record or FF, it will be another $20.

For that price, we should just stay with cable.

DH and I talked last night and I think we are going to just try to go without completely (maybe Netflix) and go over the air only for a while. We have Tivos that are compatible with over the air antennas, and we will just see how we do.

Oh, and I talked to said young man last night and he says it isn't just Disney it is also Nick and Cartoon Network.

He asked if we can at least keep Netflix!

While you still have cable maybe connect an EHD to the Tivos and fill it up with his shows? They play everything on those channels repeatedly, you could end up with a bunch in just a week or two.

I think he has seen most of them and wants the newer/new ones.

It might be cheaper to just buy a season pass through Prime or something for his favorites, but I barely got a chance to talk to him last night because he had scouts and then a lot of homework. I need to ask him which shows and details.

But thanks, that is an idea.
