Disney changing your stateroom assignment?

My question is, how often do these unrequested upgrades happen? What is the likelihood of something like this happening? How much of an upgrade is it normally? Like, probably from an 11C to an 11B or 11A IF an upgrade were to happen, I assume? What's the biggest "jump" anyone has ever experienced?

We were pixie dusted with an upgrade from 11C to 9B once! That was REALLY awesome! We found out two days before we left when we picked up our documents from the travel agent. We didn't believe it until we checked in at the terminal.

Upgrades happen on occasion, although it seems like they aren't happening as often now that the ships are sailing at or near capacity.

As for room number changes within the same category - we've had it happen on other cruise lines, especially when we book more than a year ahead, but it hasn't happened to us on Disney so far.

My cabin changed on a Disney Wonder cruise a week or so before sailing, but had originally booked in a guarantee. I think it you are in a guarantee they have the right to change your cabin at will any time up until sailing, but if you book a specific cabin, you should be asked first.

FYI, DCL has just changed our stateroom from Cat 9B (had room number since day 1) to Cat 8C. I'm actually not happy with this "pseudo upgrade" because I spent a lot of time researching and picking my stateroom (wanted mid ship, not connecting, etc...) and now they've assigned me a forward (almost the most forward room), connecting room arguing they've upgraded us! I called and asked to be moved back, but they have to check with another office and get back with me.

I'm confused by this. When DCL added more stateroom categories, the people who had already booked kept their same rooms at the same price. This should not have affected your room at all, unless you were a GTY and didn't have an actual room number chosen.
:confused3

They just called me today and told me that my 11A 7625 was going to be refurbished during the cruise and they would move me to either another 11A on 7(7063) or a 9B on deck 2(2588)

I am not thrilled about the move because I liked being so close to the public deck on 7. For those of you who have cruised before, is the height of deck 7 worth refusing the upgrade of a porthole and split bathroom on deck 2?

I'd stay on Deck 7. I stayed on Deck 2 one time and it was a pain having to wait for the elevators to go anywhere. But I'm glad to hear they called you!

Wow! You REALLY lucked out! :thumbsup2

Any other experience?!

YES! We are sailing on MR 1/15/12. We booked a Cat 9a (picked a room at time of booking) to be on deck 7 with a large porthole. I wanted a verandah but couldn't rationalize the extra $$. We were just happy to be on the boat with a window, LOL! Well, we got a phone call this week that we had rec'd a complimentary upgrade to a 5b - Deluxe Verandah room. We are still on Deck 7 but now port side as we were starboard prior. We are now aft (we were forward prior). Again, I don't care much as to the location on the deck, just happy to be on an upper deck. And now, THRILLED to have a verandah!
