Disney can be soooo Cheap sometimes

I did notice something funny. My husband and I were resort-hopping- just checking out all the other resorts.. Well, I had to use the ladies room at the GF. TWO PLY TOILET PAPER. Maybe that's included in the price of the rooms? :rotfl: At any rate, it is not the one-ply tree bark that is located in every other restroom on property! What a savings!

Well, this post caused me to do something I've never done before: click that little "Report bad post" icon. What a rude, unnecessary post! It was a) way off-topic and b) name-calling. YOU try swimming in 70 degree water. 70 degree water feels much colder to the skin than 70 degree air. I won't be trying it anytime soon. At our local YMCA, we have 2 indoor pools. The "warm" pool is set to 84 year round and the "cool" pool is set to 78 year round. The outdoor pool is unheated and only used in the summer, but it averages about 76 degrees or so and is quite chilly.

I find it unbelievable that you would call someone an "idiot", yet you spell your home state "Connecitcut" later on. Heck, even this redneck from Kentucky knows it's spelled Connecticut. I realize it was probably a typo on your part, but you certainly didn't give the OP much of a break when he probably wishes he had simply worded things differently to get his point across better, without people like you hijacking the thread.

Be careful of name-calling in the future, or it will certainly come back to you.

wow, i've never been "reported" before. how cute. LOL

i was simply expressing the differences between Florida's idea of "cold" and New England's. i'm certainly not the only person to feel this way, i know. why does that make me a "hijacker"? and it's common knowledge, practically a joke, that cold doesn't cause a virus. i thought that was something that everybody learned in school, cuz i did, that's all. i was saying "idiot" with a :rotfl2: -guy in a light-hearted way. i didn't think the op was serious, sorry.

a funny story i like to tell, is the one about test track. my family thought it was so cute when they did the "elements" test and exposed the car to extreme heat and extreme cold. i remember, during the "cold" test, we looked at each other, confused, and giggled and said, "that part must be broken". LOL

last year was my first trip to Florida and i was very surprised at the difference in pool temps. i remember being a kid and our family pool temp was always 65-70. obviously, heated pools in the indoors are warmer, i'm sure. but i, personally, avoid those. i hate the humidity.

one good thing about Floridians paranoia of the "cold" is when we went to the beach last April, it was practically abandoned. my floridian friends said it was because it was still too cold for most floridians to be at a beach. i loved having the beach to ourselves!

so, that was just my little ol' Connnecxitikut-opinion (LMAO, cuz i'm usually always the one on message boards pointing out everyone else's spelling errors!) :hyper:

Lets try again.

I went to the Beach Club and expected the pools to be heated.

I got you the first time~ :)

I hate it when they start street cleaning while people are leaving the MK. Are they being cheap? I know they are trying to get us to leave, so I guess that is being cheap in a way. After the fireworks, I used to love walking out with the lights twinkling and the Disney music. It's just ruined with all that noise!

I think they have been doing that forever. I can remember them using the street vacuums as far back as 1976. I was 12 and thought those were the cooling things in the world (what can I say I'm an Engineer).

Maybe, but not every night because I used to have some very lovely evenings leaving the park, with the classic music playing, and that hasn't happened without the street cleaner accompaniment for a long time.

AlmostApril's 1st time being reported. That's so super cute. :cutie:

Why would anyone go swimming in January? :crazy2:

I don't know, why would an entire thread full of people completely and obviously intentionally miss the OP's point. But there you have it!

Not picking on you, it's just that I don't understand why people are having such a hard time here. The pool is open right? It's supposed to be heated right? When we were there in January, it was downright cold, as cold as it gets in Orlando, and I saw so many people in the pool at our resort! It made me cold just watching them, but :confused3 they seemed happy!

Exactly.

And I wondered the same thing when I was there in December and saw people swimming. Why? :crazy2:

I tried swimming at WDW in early March a few years ago. It was in the 50s outside, and I dipped one foot into the water and immediately headed back to the room. Even if the pools are "heated," they're not going to feel like saunas-- they're not supposed to. If it's too cold, then get out and forget about swimming. Winter, even in Florida, is not always swimming weather!

I don't know, I think there's a difference when a pool is heated properly. I'm not much of a swimmer, but my family is, and they are the kind that will get in and when it's cold outside and are fine once they are in the water, if the water is properly heated. It's that first plunge that's a killer.

If the water isn't heated, it can be bad even if it's not so cold out. My family has complained that pools weren't heated even in warmer weather. The water should never be ice cold.

My first Disney trip was in 2005. And the thing that sticks out for me was after it rained someone immediately was there, drying off the benches. And whenever you used the restroom you always saw someone cleaning them. Now it has been brought up quite frequently that the restrooms are not as clean as they used to be. :( But I still miss seeing all the cast members running around after the rain, drying things off. :umbrella: This is how I know Disney is cutting back.

Oh and when you live somewhere where the lake water doesn't get over 50 very often, you swim whenever you go south on vacation. ;)

October 2004, my family stayed at POP, I know its not deluxe, BUT the pool was very cold. My DH asked the lifeguard if the heater was broken and she said that the pool was not heated!! Seemed strange to us. But, the was just our OP.
We ended up hanging out in one of the kiddie pools with DS!!

As far as draining hotel pools in FL durring the winter, I have never seen such a thing and I have lived here for 26 years! Like PP said they would fill up with skateboarders, BMX riders and bladers....so better to keep them filled!

To keep in line with the OP request. I think disney has stopped giving out the thick bars of soap. We have been recently 2 times this year and noticed the skinny bars of soap even in the shower where you used to get the thick bars always. Now you get the thin bars at the sinks and in the showers. I don't know if thats being cheap or Disney just finding ways to save money. About the pools....Does anyone know if these pools are heated by gas or is disney using a heat pump.If they are using heat pumps they don't work very well with cold outside temps. It is possible that the quiet pools are warmer because there is less water to keep warm than in the big pool. We stayed in January and swam at SSR and the water was very warm although at our resort POFQ the water was cold. I think if a pool is advertised as heated it should reflect it being heated. Thats like getting a car with air conditioning that keeps the car cold but only when its below 90 degrees outside. Imagine bringing the car back when its over 90 degrees and the dealer telling you well the car has air conditioning but it doesn't work as well when its hot out. If disney doesn't want to heat the pools in the winter thats fine but a disclaimer might be nice. Maybe a notice that due to severe cold tempetures in dec, jan, and feb we might not be able to efficiently heat the pools to their optimal temperatures.

Speaking for myself, I can say that coming from an area that has 4 distinct seasons, there's something decadent and festive about swimming outdoors during wintertime. It reminds me I'm on vacation. I can't possibly be anywhere near home if I'm swimming outside in the winter! So sure, I would do it every chance I got, even if it made me catch a cold. :lmao: To me, going to Florida in the winter and not swimming outside would be like going to a steakhouse in Idaho and ordering a side dish of carrots.

The other thing about swimming in a cool pool is it can be a matter of perspective. Here in the Atlantic City area, when the ocean temp gets to 70 degrees the beaches look like everyone's trying to swim to Portugal.

But.....the Best Rate Program for AP holders...did not like that I ended up in "the black hole" between when the old programs discounted rates were available, and the new program began. Also, not thrilled about the lack of meal vouchers. If I want to overpay for a CS meal at WDW, why not let me? It's not bad enough that most rides dump me into a gift shop, but now I have purchased dvds that depict each park and their attractions, only to find that they are merely toned up versions of the free trip planning dvd (I still bought every one of them though... ). I got a better deal buying home videos on ebay. Also....better not forget my cel phone when I go to WDW...or my nighttime snacks....or my Brita...batteries....film...or a band aid. If I had to buy any of these things (or make a call) while I was there, I had better have an ATM card! The funniest thing I find at WDW is that the only thing a penny is good for is to create a souvenier. They should keep all the pennies in AK, in Dinoland, since they are so extinct (and useless in WDW).

:lmao: Yes, I was in a particularly joking mood at the time! It's my new hobby. If I see someone joking on any thread, I'll just report them every time! Woo hoo! No joking on the DIS! :cool1:

But wait, she was calling someone an "idiot" in a :rotfl2: kind of way! What was I thinking? It should have been so obvious to me that was just :rotfl2:. Give me a break. People, you can't go around name-calling on public forums like this. I don't care how you intend it, name-calling is name-calling when you're not able to verbally or visually add context to it. If you're not sure how others are going to take what you may intend as a joke, it's better not to even type it in the first place. I saw her post count, and could not believe she had resorted to name-calling by her 14th post. I think most people last 500 posts or more before resorting to that. :lmao: :rotfl2: (is there a sarcasm smilie I can put here?).

Back ON topic (sorry Mark), this probably wasn't a cost-savings measure so much as an "it's too silly" measure, but when I was little, you could go to the place that now serves Dole whips and get something that tasted pretty similar, but in an orange flavor, and it came in a little kiddie container shaped like an orange, and it came with a paper-ish sort of straw. I loved getting those. They tasted great, but I also just loved the container and straw. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dole whips, but I miss those containers.

OH MY! I remember those! I think I have one of the containers at my mom's house, still! And those lovely paper straws! I remember chewing thru many of those!

Sorry, OT again! I just loved those orange things! Thanks for the memories!

You could probably list that container on Ebay and make a 1000% profit on something that probably cost Disney less than $.01 to have made. :scratchin
