Disney By the Numbers April 2025 Exercise Challenge

Yes, anything with a heating element is likely to be confiscated (including things like hair dryers or straighteners). Ships are terrified of fires! The funny thing is that the list of prohibited items also includes appliances like microwave ovens, toasters, and rice cookers. Never thought of taking those types of things on my cruise vacation!
Look into Thermacare heat wraps. They’re terrific! Don’t use Salonpas - they are like ripping off a bandaid!

Congratulations to BonnieF for being the first to reach Pink, and welcome ktink, who jumps in at Purple!

All this talk about cruises made me look up some Disney Cruise Line numbers. DCL currently has 6 ships, with 2 more coming down the pike. They range in size from 875 to 1,254 rooms (2,713 to 4,000 passengers).

DCL also offers two private destinations--Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point--both in the Bahamas.

One of DCL's special features is the rotational dining program. Guests don't eat dinner at the same table every night, but instead they get to experience 3 different restaurants. The service staff rotates through the restaurants too, so guests keep their same waiter and assistant.

I couldn't find DCL-specific numbers, but I saw an article talking about the Sun Princess (6,000 passengers) that said every week they load 180 tons of food supplies and 50 tons of beverages and serve about 70,000 meals!

Since Sophy brought up the races - I've run two Disney half marathons. One number most folks wouldn't guess is 4:30AM, which is the absolute latest you can leave your hotel room to make it to the starting line on time. Another crazy number - the first resort hotel to the starting line bus leaves at 3:00am.

Oh my gosh, I forgot about that! Yes, super, super early. We switched over to Disneyland races and it was a lot easier because we always stay within walking distance of DLR. I think one time we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel so it was right outside.

Hi all! I knew this month would be crazy, but it’s all been fun. My husband and I are on a cruise - our first vacation together in over two years! Since our granddaughters came to live with us, life is upside down. Anyway, we’ve done a ton of walking this week - this ship is huge! I’ll add 250 minutes for the last week.

Yes, those ships are huge! We always try to take the stairs to help offset all the food we eat all week. And I like the ships that have a promenade deck or track that I can walk around. Enjoy your trip!

Hi, all, and Happy Easter!

I've been absent from the thread because I got called down to Florida - my Dad had a fall and needed surgery. But he's tough and made it through in good spirits. 😊

I had a few minutes noted in my phone that I hadn't posted yet, and have managed a couple of walks while I've been here:

4/12 - 20
4/13 - 25
4/16 - 30
4/18 - 35

New Total = 390/600

Congratulations to ShannyMcB, PollyannaMom, me, and the TEAM for turning Purple, and to Twilight Sparkle for turning Pink!

One thing I miss about spending more time at Disneyland than Walt Disney World is Disney's Animal Kingdom, the fourth WDW theme park. Here are some number-centered facts about this unique park:

Animal Kingdom's centerpiece, the Tree of Life, is 145 feet tall and has more than 300 hand-sculpted animals.

The park is the largest WDW park (and the largest theme park in the world), at 580 acres. The Kilimanjaro Safari ride itself is 110 acres, larger than the Magic Kingdom (107 acres). More than 100 animals from 30 species call the safari home. All told, Animal Kingdom has more than 5,000 residents from 300 species. Disney animals consume 10,000 pounds of food daily.

In the Pandora section, there are more than 250 varieties of vegetation. Disney planted more than 500 trees and nearly 10,000 shrubs to create the Pandora landscape.

Best wishes to your dad for a speedy recovery!

+60 Impulsively booked a Disney trip leaving in 2 weeks. We'll see if I do the responsible thing and cancel or continue with the super-fun YOLO plan. :rotfl2:

Oh, how fun! Responsibility is overrated anyway. :)

Home again (deep sigh). Does anyone else hate airport walking as much as I do? I love the trolleys at MCO - really missed them in Ft. Lauderdale. My flight was delayed (of course) by runway construction - um - who does that on a holiday???? So,almost two hours extra in FLL, during which the airline changed gates 3 times! to three different spokes! We walked 4000 steps in that time! Exhausted doesn't begin to cover it. Then, with 20 minutes left in the flight, we went into a holding pattern. So we got in the door four hours after we should have. Not the way for a lovely trip to end!
@Raya - go for that trip!!!!!
@PollyannaMom - glad your dad is on the mend!

Adding 30 minutes
330/400

Congratulations to ktink and piglet1979 for turning Pink!

Happy Earth Day! Here's some Disney conservation trivia:

Since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has awarded $125 million to nonprofit organizations that save wildlife and help the environment. DCF is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year!

Nearly a third of the Walt Disney World Resort (more than 8,000 acres) has been set aside for wildlife conservation.

There are more than 500 nesting compartments across WDW for purple martin songbirds, a declining species that migrates 6,000 miles from Florida to South America and back each year. More than 200 species of birds live at WDW, and more than 75 species of pollinators such as butterflies use pollinator-friendly gardens there.

Cast members have monitored and recorded more than 20,000 sea turtle nests at Disney's Vero Beach Resort, which have resulted in 1.5 million hatchlings!

I love those Earth Day numbers!!

I am back home now, and getting back into a regular schedule for the time being.

4/19 (skip)
4/20 - 20 min walk
4/21 - 20 min walk
4/22 (skip)
4/23 - 45 min yoga class on Zoom

new total = 460/600
