Disney buying points to reduce supply

I was thinking, disney may be increasing rofr in order to reduce the number of points out there. Due to covid there must be loads more banked points and limited supply of rooms, so maybe it's a plan to take points out of circulation for a couple of years to equalise it.

Frankly I can’t see Disney spending money on points they can’t either immediately sell on or use by renting them out

I don't think Disney cares about the limited supply of rooms. IMO they are trying to narrow the gap between direct and resale to encourage more people to just go direct. I know, I've become a cynic.
