Can I use Disney Bus transportation to go between parks/DTD even if I am not staying at a Disney resort?

But, no buses go from parks to DTD so you have to go to a resort first and switch to a bus to DTD or take a bus to SSR and walk/boat to DTD.

I have heard stories that it took an hour or more to get from the Poly to DTD and that other routs weren"t much better. DTD buses take ALOT of time. So much so that I know of folks who called a cab instead!

Since DTD is almost in the 'real world' IMO as far as traffic goes, it takes buses forever sometimes to be able to make a turn or for a light. Or it seems that way!

As said, 99.9999999999% of the time anyone can use the WDW buses. On site or Off site guests. There could be certain VERY VERY busy times where they would make you show a WDW resort card to use the buses, but I figure you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning or winning the lottery, or actually getting struck by lightning WHILE winning the lottery then worrying about that scenario.

But also, since you asked "DTD/park" and others have also stated, no you cant go from DTD to a park or from a park to DTD. If that was possible the buses from DTD / parks would be packed with off site people 'cheating' and taking buses direct to a park from DTD probably filling up the DTD lots and buses. So they throw a speed bump in making it so you much transfer or leave from a WDW resort to be able to goto the parks.

If your idea is to avoid the fee at the park parking lots, this idea isn't new. However Disney is wise to this and made the buses a lot less convenient for this plan. As said buses don't go direct from DTD to park anymore. Also buses don't run from DTD until later in the morning. Maybe 10:30. So you won't get to a park to well after it has opened since the transfer and two buses will take 30 minutes to an hour and maybe even more.

Everyone who holds park entrance passes is welcome to use any Disney transportation. It is not just for 'resort' guests. But, as you've discovered, there are no buses running between parks and DTD. Too many people abused that perk so Disney stopped it. Now, if you are in a park and want to head to DTD, you have to go to a resort and take their DTD bus.

The buses heading to DTD seem to take forever though. I would think there is a much shorter route, but for some reason they don't take it. I believe it has something to do with many turns and traffic lights. But who knows. I do know that I was astounded when I drove to DTD from BW one time...just could not believe how short the ride was when compared with what I experience when using the busses. About a third of the time.

Once you're on the bus, it's about 15 minutes from the Poly to DTD. At least the way I drive it.

It's absolutely quicker to take a cab. If it's in your budget, that's the way to go. It makes for a better trip if you speak certain foreign languages though, I'm just saying.

I'm confused by that statement. I've discovered the hard way that most guests hate it when I make a turn on two, or is it three wheels.

I have never been told to do that, even when a park has been closed. Besides, without my reading glasses, I'm old you know, you could be showing me your expired library card.

Much earlier than 10:30 from the MP. PI is a little later than that. I've picked up people cheating Disney out of the parking fee as early as 7:30/7:45. That's ok, when I drop them off at the resort, I tell them to take the next bus that says DTD and that it's actually going to the MK, all the MK marquees are stuck on DTD.

Don't even need that. All you need is yourself to ride the buses. Make sure you're wearing a shirt and something on your feet though. Oh, and be in a good mood. I don't let grumpy people or Yankee fans on my bus. That's a redundent statement isn't it?

A number of factors are considered when coming up with a route. It's not just the distance. The routes being used are supposed, key word, supposed, to be the most efficient for that location when taking all factors into consideration. One factor they leave out is the "I'm angry because it's taking too long" factor.

I do know that I was astounded when I drove to DTD from BW one time...just could not believe how short the ride was.
That's very true. Driving is best. But you probably didn't have to wait for someone to close their stroller after the bus arrived, then knock riders on the head as they make their way to the very rear of the bus and then stand for five minutes trying to figure out what to do with it. And you probably didn't have anyone cutting you off so that they can get to that next red light before you. I speed up so that they end up beside me at the light and give them the Disney bus driver look. And did you stop at TL even though no one is going there because it's 32 degrees? No, you didn't. It all adds up.

OH, don't be bothering me with technicalities!!! 3 wheels??? Cool, sounds like fun. And can we talk about the glasses?? Hopefully it's just that reading distance that's an issue.
And about those Yankees fans??? I want to be on your bus....save it for Boston fans.

But, it does take longer, much longer, for the buses to get to DTD..once they get moving, than a car. They take a completely different route. But, I'm sure there's a reason for that.

It will take longer because the buses stop at the MP first. But I don't think it's much longer. Driving yourself to the DTD parking lot is a shorter distance to begin with. That alone makes a difference. You're also correct that we do take a different route around the back way, assuming TL is closed. The Disney mucky mucks have decided that is the best way to go considering everything and that's that. When the MP closes though and we just have to go to PI, we go the same way you would. Down BVD, no, not the underware, and in to PI.

You sound like the best bus driver in all of WDW! :thumbsup2

I'll make sure my son wears his Red Sox shirt every day when we are in WDW later this month in case we have you for our driver....

There is. This is just me reasoning things out, but did you ever realize how short the ride is from OKW and SSR? That's the route every (or pretty much every) bus takes when Marketplace is open. They turn right from the SSR road onto the DTD street, then turn right again into the parking lot. Simple. No lights (okay, not no lights, but you know what I mean), no crossing traffic, no left turns... did you know UPS drivers are supposed to avoid left turns whenever possible? It saves fuel.
