Good morning! The below article was posted on the internet this morning. As a dachshund owner, I'm especially interested in the release of Frankenweenie! ;) Happy Friday, everyone!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Monsters and Muppets are coming back to a theater near you.

At a press briefing at The Walt Disney Co. headquarters in Burbank on Thursday, studios chairman Rich Ross said Disney's Pixar division is creating a sequel to "Monsters Inc." that will hit theaters in November 2012.

The original film from 2001 grossed $529 million worldwide.

Ross also said the studio was about to give the go-ahead to a new movie featuring the Muppets which will introduce a new character named Walter.

"He's in felt and fur rehab now as we build him," Ross said.

It was not clear when the movie would hit theaters. But he said there will be plenty of cameos, as with all Muppet movies. So watch for Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, too.

James Bobin, the creator of "The Flight of the Conchords" TV series, is set to direct.

The announcements were among several made during a presentation of the studio's upcoming slate of films. Disney is in the midst of selling off its Miramax Films division as it focuses on family-oriented fare from Marvel, Pixar, its own studio and Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks unit.

Among other future films is a retelling of the Winnie the Pooh story using hand-drawn animation; a Tim Burton-led stop-motion animation movie called "Frankenweenie" about a boy's revival of his lost dog; and another Pixar movie called "John Carter of Mars" about a man who goes through a portal to the red planet as imagined by author Edgar Rice Burroughs.

"Wall-E" writer Andrew Stanton of Pixar has been tapped to handle the otherworldly live action picture starring Taylor Kitsch. The movie is set to hit theaters in 2012.

I'm thrilled about the Monsters Inc. sequel, and how sweet of them to name a muppet after Walter! :rotfl:

I love Monsters Inc. it's one of my favorite Pixar movies! I'm excited about a sequel. I just hope it's as a good as Toy Story 2.

I'm kinda surprised about all these sequels. John Lasseter used to say he didn't like sequels and the wouldn't be doing very many.

I've always hoped that they would have a sequel to Monsters Inc. It was a great movie!

Frankenweenie is a re-make. I saw the original years ago. It was weird...as you'd expect from Burton. Burton directed the original too. But I remember it being short (like 30 minutes?) I guess he's expanding on it.

Maybe with the confirmed sequel of Monster's Inc. (MI2), the rumored Monster's Inc. coaster at DHS won't be too far off.

I miss the old days when there were no sequels. I want to get excited about the muppets but they just aren't as funny as they use to be. Jim Henson was a genius! I watch the old Muppet Shows with DD all the time and they are very clever and witty.

I have been hoping for this one for a long time..I have never made it to the DL ride but would love to see that one too.

Hmm...aren't we already waiting on a previously announced Muppet movie? I don't know if it was ever given a title, but it was announced months ago...Muppet Wiki calls it "The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made"

And as for John Carter Of Mars - last I knew (and this movie has been in development heck for, like, forever, but is finally moving forward) is being co-written and directed by Andrew Stanton, but as far as I know it is not a Pixar production, but under Walt Disney Pictures. It was also to be live action, although it may at least be partially animated.

My DD7 will be absolutely beside herself when she hears about the Monster Inc sequel. :cloud9: That was the very first movie she watch the whole way thru and she still watches it. She actually just finally finished her collection of "baby" dolls of the characters when she bought a baby Boo doll on our last trip to WDW. She has had a baby Sully and a baby Mike doll since she was about a year old. To say that these are her favorite stuffed animals would be an understatement. I had to do "surgery" on Sully this morning and I thought she was going to cry when she didn't get to take him to school with her because of it.

I also heard there is another Pixar movie called Brave that is really the Bear and the Bow. Reese Witherspoon to do the heroine's voice.

=========================================
Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon is to appear in Pixar's Brave in 2012.
The 34-year-old star will voice the lead role in the flick, which the company has recently announced will hit cinemas on June 5, 2012.

According to Variety, she plays the part of an impulsive princess who wants to cut her royal ties and become the world's greatest female archer.

The movie is being directed and written by Brenda Chapman, who was behind the hit movie Cars.

I have mixed feelings on the Monsters Inc sequel...I loved the first one and it ended so well I'm curious at what the story line will be. I wish Bug's Life would get a sequel...I always thought there was alot of story left to tell when that one was over

I have faith that Pixar wouldn't have come back to Monsters without a good story to go with it.

As for the Muppets, I'm not sure if they're referring to the movie they announced last year at the D23 Expo, or a different one. I think I've seen improvement in the Muppets since the Muppet Wizard of Oz, they've got some good things going on on Youtube.

However, looking back at videos of Fozzie and Kermit going back and forth in camera tests for the Muppet Movie, I don't think they'll ever have that kind of chemistry again. Ah, well, at least there are videos.

Quoting myself...on the Muppets Facebook page, they posted that the new movie is now called "The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made"...plus there is a video of "American Woman" coming on on Memorial Day, and an upcoming Lost promo will feature the Muppets as well...

I am looking forward to them both!

As long as Beaker is in the Muppet's movie, I will go see it! I :lovestruc Beaker!
