I'm 29 and an Accountant. But, I am back in school studying to be a Mathematician/Statistician. I'll graduate in March. I have 4 classes left!!!!!

Well, I'm 35 and an actor - here's my shout out to some other posters - I've PLAYED at SAK theatre in Orlando. My improv troupe played there a couple of times at their Improv Festival.
I'm currently working for Second City on NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE - we perform comedy shows a couple of nights a week. I've got the month off right now, and am loving being at home, but I head out to the Jewel on Nov 5th.

DBF (not technically engaged yet, but talking about plans and rings have been sampled) is 26 and an actor as well (Younger Man!) He's also finishing up his philosophy degree at UofT here in Toronto.

WOW, that is so neat that you work for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center. My hubby and I live in Montgomery County and are not far at all from the Kimmel Center. In fact, we were just there this past Saturday night and go to see Congo Nation for the roots of Jazz series. We have tickets for every show in the series. Of course, we will give the tickets to a friend for the December 2nd show since we will be in WDW.

Very cool. Nice to see another person on here in the Philadelphia area!

I am 23 years old, and I am currently a Consumables Specialist for Target. I have an Associates Degree in Interior Design, but I have pretty much lost interest. I am thinking of either going back to school for Medical Billing or becomming a dispatcher.

FH is also 23 years old, and he is currently an unemployed police officer (he graduated the academy this summer and is waiting, waiting, waiting - keep your fingers crossed for him everyone!!! He has testing on Saturday for a job!!!)

For those of you who are, were, or know someone who is a dispatcher... is it a hard career to get into, and is it terribly hard? I mean, I know it must be hard, but I am terrified but so interested at the same time! What can you tell me!!!

are you talking 911 dispatcher or other? I was a 911 calltaker and dispatcher or PCT here in NYC for a little under 2 years.. I LOVED the job but civilian PD in NY is a not so easy a place to be... remember, this depends on where you are planning on working. I would do it again in a heartbeat - just not there. the job is immensely rewarding and frustrating at the same time. I heard my first baby being born while on with EMS, helped countless people in medical situations and much more...

Hi My cousin just started working as a dispatcher this summer in Boston. It took him forever (5-6 months I believe) to get a job after he was done w/ the academy. I did not say that to discourage you, I just wanted to let you and you DF know it could be a process. Be patient, I am sure he will eventually find work. Good luck

Thanks! It seems rewarding, but scary at the same time. I thought I had my life figured out with one career, but after two situations where I was hit in the face with the reality that I probably wasn't going to be good at it, my ego is left a little shattered. I feel I can't be good at anything at the moment! I know it will pass... but you gave me a little boost!

Thanks for the reassurance! We're at month 4 since FH graduated the academy, so hopefully history repeats itself with him and he will get the job he is testing for tomorrow!!!

I graduated from college at the University of North Carolina at Greensboo this past May with a degree in Broadcasting and a concentration in News & Documentary. I am currently an unemployed college graduate and loving it after a hectic last semester and all the wedding planning! I worked at a news station, WXII News 12, in Winston-Salem, NC for a few months before graduation. My DH just got a job promotion, so we're moving to Orlando! I'm glad I don't have a job at the moment because I coudn't with all the home hunting, packing, and moving! My DH just got promoted to the Warehouse Management Systems Analyst in Orlando, FL with Staples Co. He will be traveling almost 70% of the time now, so we're happy I can be at home for the time being. He's already going to California and Texas in the next few weeks. We are moving down to Florida in February and are going home hunting in November right after Thanksgiving. Right now we are in Charlotte, NC and my DH will be on his way to Orlando for work this next weekend. I just got back from WDW yesterday! As soon as we get settled and moved in I can start the job hunting process!

I wish you the best of luck finding a job! My fiance graduated from college with a Broadcasting degree 5 years ago and has yet to find a job in broadcasting. He has been a sportswriter during those years, but that's as close as he can get (he's good too!!!!!!!) It's a field in which things don't open up that often (unless you want to be a camera operator,) even if you're amazing at what you do

I will be 23 in January and Marcos will be 27 in January.

I graduated with my BA in Spanish and minor in Economics this past May.

Marcos graduated w/ his B.S. in civil engineering and works for a geotechinical firm in MS and is doing the Katrina work on the bridge.

I am currently working a receptionist - going in INSANE and looking for a job. I want to be a teacher! I find out in 2 weeks if I got a job at a private school here which will start in JANUARY! Keep praying!

I am two weeks from 22, and will be graduating this year with a degree in Art History/Museum Studies. Next year I am going to Graduate school for Art History with a Museum Studies focus. I also sport the lovely green apron as a Barista at Starbucks(anything to get through school!). My DF is 21 and a Speech Pathology major. He will also have to attend graduate school to be a practicing speech pathologist. I don't even want to think about all our student loans....arrghhhh....

I have a lot of contacts here in Charlotte and know a lot of people working at the stations, but was not interested in getting a job here. I'm actual not too crazy about working in a news station. I worked at the NBC affiliate in the Triad area in NC for about 6 months as an Assignment Editor. I knew I was taking time off after I got married and then my DH and I decided he'd pursue a job in the Orlando area. It all worked out, so we can now begin our future plans! I plan on working part-time once in Florida after we have moved in and unpacked. It's much easier to find a part-time job without all the benefits. Luckily, I have a DH with a great job, who can support the both of us. I am able to do what I want and enjoy, which I love!

Good for you It's one of those fields that it doesn't matter what you know or how much experience you have, it's WHO you know Since my fiance is in the same situation, I get to be the breadwinner as a teacher Not the best situation!

That's funny that you're a teacher because I was originally going into teaching and had already studied for 3 years in college to become a teacher. I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher and I even passed the teaching certificate exam. Then, I decided it wasn't for me and changed my degree. That's why it took 5 years to graduate! I always joke about how I went from wanting a degree for a low paying job to an even lower paying job with no security...haha!
