Disney Billing Erros ?

Last trip I gave the hotel my credit card so I could charge things to the room. I charged just over $300 to the room key. A couple days after check out, my credit card was hit with a $96.xx charge. Roughly 2 weeks later, another charge for just over $100 was charged. Its been nothing since. What happened to the other $100+ in charges? (not that I am complaining).

you should ask especially if you don't think it was you

no, what I am saying is that they seem to have under-billed my card. I am guessing that when I charged some stuff to the key, something went wrong and never got billed.

That's strange. When I've used my room key to charge, it hits my bill in one lump sum after I check out. Do the amounts correlate to single purchases you made?

The first time we stayed in a Disney Resort, we went crazy with those silly room keys that you could charge things on. At checkout, they showed me the total bill and I was thinking, "THERE MUST BE SOME MISTAKE HERE!"
Seems me and DW and DD and DS all had a very nice shopping spree that trip.:rotfl2:

it seems like something never went thru... if you received a charge later on the c/c it might mean another charge w/ come after that... How long ago was your trip?

Mistakes happen, whether they're in your favor or not, usually it will eventually catch up to you.

If you purchase something after you check out, it will come through as a separate charge. The account gets "closed out" when you check out, but technically it stays active and you can continue to charge to your room key until the end of check-out day. That may explain the two separate charges.

You could always call WDW and ask for a detailed listing of the charges, although since the error is in your favor you might not want to. ;)

It was 4 months ago. We are going again in November, so the Mouse need not worry, I am sure he'll find a way to squeeze an extra $100 out of me then !! :)

When I have stayed at the Disney Resorts I would save every charge slip; putting them in an envelope and keep it in a drawer in the room. About every second or third evening I would stop by the desk and ask for a copy of my folio and I would verify all the charges against the sales slips, marking the sales slips as "posted". Very important to do this the night before check out.

I made very sure to also do this the night prior to check out. A few times I had something that did not show up on the folio; I made sure to save the receipt and the items usually showed up as a "delayed charge" on my credit card.

This way you are able to challange anything that might be an error, and you can be reasonably certain as to the correctness of the bill when you check out.

Umm, do you know my DH?? He is just as, umm, ORGANIZED as you are. He has worked for MBNA/BOA for 16 years, I thought he was the only person on the planet who kept all that stuff so neatly arranged while at WDW.

I always have the best of intentions as far as keeping receipts, for purchases and for dining. I try to keep 3 piles: purchases, DDP dining, OOP dining. But then for purchases, I have gift cards, sometimes Disney Dollars, and KTTW card. It gets very complicated! And then a receipt gets stuck in the bag, the bag accidentally gets thrown out. Or the receipt gets crumpled in a pocket and then we go on a wet ride.

Usually my plan is out the window by day two, and I just hope for the best. I try to mostly use gift cards at WDW anyway, that's how I save up my spending money, and I do check the receipts for accuracy at the time of purchase.

I guess I'm just not that organized!

My dh too. I think we need a support group to be married to these guys. ;) When he comes home from business trips it's not "hi I missed you" but "where are all your receipts?"

My dh has a stroke every time he looks at my check book. I "round". He swears I am trying to kill him for the insurance money. As if it would be enough! :rolleyes1

I say we start the support group and meet, lets say once a month, at WDW!

Okay, so we all married brothers-at-heart! Inside DH's file cabinet in the "Disney Vacation" drawer, are the envelopes that contain all receipts for every purchase ever made at WDW for each trip we've been there. :sad2: Not only those, but he also picks up extra checkbook registers at the bank to use to track our expenses that go on our room charge so that he can easily and quickly "balance" with the charges showing on our checkout paperwork. Oh, he did once find an error, one of our purchases was charged twice - they fixed it immediately, but to him that just proves his theory - Gotta be organized!

Dontcha just love OCD, extra-organized, Disney-lovin' men!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hey, when you're an accountant you are of a certain mind-set all of the time. It happens and you have to live with it.

Do you know what it is like when your wife not only does not attempt to balance her checkbook, but even forgets to record check or debit card entries? AAAARRRRGH!

Actually, several years ago one of the major CPA firms had run an ad in the Wall Street Journal which had a sample financial statement in the ad. Due to a typographic error the arithmatic was off and it did not add correctly; they actually got hundreds of comments about their error!

Not quite to the extreme mentioned, but I do save the receipts from WDW ... not to compare ... check and confirm ... but just so I can see:
1. How much I "saved" by doing DDP.
2. How much did Pick-a-Pearl REALLY cost when someone asks on DIS board.
3. What was the average cost of a Counter Service meal when someone asks on the DIS board.
4. Where did I eat at THAT day??? ... oh yeah, here is the receipt!

Hee Hee ...

PS: OP -- I am the same way -- if WDW really did error and "advance" me $100 -- it's going right back into thier coffers one way or another! :)

Please don't let my dh know that your dh found an error...my husband works in cc disputes, and I had to DRAG him to WDW the first time, because he said there were so many disputes and billing errors. He will go off on an hour rant and spend even more time going over the receipts...since he works for BOA he can check our account on-line, and has been known to do just that while we are at WDW... Oh, and don't get him started about Ebay...that word is forbidden in our house...
But hey, we NEVER get over charged, so that is just more $$$ for me to spend on pins and snow globes!

No, but my dh knows! Poor guy...that is why we have 3 checking account...joint, his, and mine. He gets dizzy whenever he even glances at mine.

1) Everyone should review their bill prior to leaving.
2) There truly are errors on resort statements.
3) The most frequent is errors in telephone charges.
