This article is about a year old - don't know if it's been discussed before, but a friend posted it on Facebook - they apparently discussed biometrics and privacy issues in some class.

http://occupycorporatism.com/disney-biometrics-and-the-department-of-defense/

I'm posting it as it claims that Disney has some things that it uses to gather data that I never heard of, and have reason to believe don't even exist. Particular the thing about the cruise line:

Facial recognition technology is a part of Disney’s new cruise liners. Moving Art lines the walls of the ship to entertain the passengers. This pictures move in response to the passenger’s facial movements, ensuring that the same sequence will not play twice. Although this may entertain, the passenger’s facial movements are being recorded by the computers within the pictures at all times.

What the heck are they talking about here? And in the next paragraph, about Castaway Cay - don't they already have pictures associated with your ID? I don't think they need to do it secretly after you've already done it willingly...

I think the whole article is garbage in general - started right away when they said that Disney gives all the data to the government via the Freedom of Information Act - which as far as I know only applies to government documents.

I won't do the website the favor of a click but you are right. The website must be clueless (or worse) if it asserts that FOIA lets companies provide data to the government.

The site itself seems to be one of those anti-corporate, anti-government extremist sites - I'm just in a bit of shock that this particular person would have posted it (no, it's none of my DIS friends ;) )

The article is just...so...wrong...in so many ways. It seems to me like they actually just made stuff up. Here's another example - the "alternate monetary system" on the Cruise Line. Apparently you trade cash for digital "Mickey money", and they make it sound like they alter the exchange rate however they want. And you can use it at some ports... :confused3

I definitely agree with JCB. FOIA is a law which requires the government provide information to the public. It does not require The Public to provide information to the government.

And the ticket finger scan looks at an area about 1/4 inch by 1/8 inch, applies an algorithm to it, and comes up with a 3-digit number between 000 and 999 the first time the scan is done and ties the scan to the ticket. When the tickets is used again, the scan looks for the same 3-digit number. On a 50,000 day there will be at least 50 people who have the same resultant. And you cannot create a fingerprint from the 3-digit number.

I thought it was a 4-digit number. :)
