Disney Battles Time Warner Cable with New Website

Monday, July 19, 2010

In a further escalation of a high-stakes standoff over television-programming fees, Walt Disney Co. has started a website slamming Time Warner Cable Inc. over the company's tactics in renegotiating a TV contract.

Time Warner Cable's agreement to air Disney-owned channels such as ESPN, the Disney Channel and some ABC local stations expires after midnight on Sept. 2. The two sides are negotiating over fees Time Warner Cable must pay Disney to air the channels.

If the two sides don't reach a deal, it's possible popular programming such as football games and "Modern Family" could be blacked out from millions of homes.

1) I say black them out and hold out for a better deal.
2) Disney and other channels are getting too expensive.
3) And, we, not the cable company, pays for the increase.

Cable companies make huge amounts of money by having these major channels, I remember about 10 years ago when we lived in a Time Warner market in West Virginia they would charge us almost $10 a month just to view Disney.

What TWC and many major cable corporations need to accept is that their endless truckloads of cash are being made from products other people make and as long as they are making massive profits they have no reason to complain when they are asked to pay more for something, they sure don't have a problem making us pay extra for their services.

Now with that said the first thing they will do is try and pass the cost on to us the consumer however we have a choice as well, if they raise their prices there are alternatives out there.

They need to deal with changing conditions and run their businesses in a way that they can provide a good product at an affordable price just like every other business out there does while dealing with higher costs.
