We are driving to Disney this august from CT. We will leave after dinner and drive down with no stops. On the way home we would like to stop somewhere, maybe a beach? For a night or two. It will be me, DH and DDS ages 9,8,7. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. This will be our 2nd Disney trip and the first trip we flew. Staying at the poly for 8 nights so the stop on the way home needs to be inexpensive :) TIA

Assuming you take I-95 all the way home, a beach overnight may not be feasable. I-95 curves inland around Savannah, and stays an hour or two inland until you get to New Jersey. I'm assuming Savannah is too early to stop, and NJ is way too late to stop.

We have never done the drive before...furthest we have driven is Outer Banks, North Carolina...if the beach is not a feasible option we are open to any and all suggestions where we could stop and have some inexpensive, relaxing fun!!!

perhaps on the way back you could get as far as Washington, DC. Just about everything you'd want to do there is free!! My suggestion would be to check the Metro (DC's Clean, safe, cheap subway line) for the stop furthest south and get a room there, less expensive than in DC. Then jump on the Metro into DC (also goes to Arlington Nat'l Cemetery), spend the day visiting the Monuments & the Smithsonian. Don't know when the Washington Monument is going to reopen, but if it's open when you go, you can prearrange tickets to go to the top (check on line) for a couple of bucks.

VA Beach is about 12 hrs. from WDW. After staying over, you could continue over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, up the Delmarva, cross the Delaware Bay on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and head up the Garden State Parkway towards CT. :-)

we've done this trip from northern CT & its a great trip! And the Garden State parkway is much nicer, less congested, than I-95. We use it and cross the Hudson on the Tappan Zee Bridge then cut across to 84 (you could Mapquest exact route but its easy)

You're going in August, unless you don't mind 3+ hours of bumper to bumper traffic DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT plan on taking the GSP north on a Sunday in August. Any other day fine, but not Sunday.

we take 95 down all the way, but have stopped at Virginia Beach and Hilton Head. Both have taken us off the given path so to say. In other words, we prefer no stops just going straight through with a quick pit stop here & there as well as meal breaks. If you would like to make it a stopover, with a day in between Virginia is about mid-way. Carolinas takes it a little further south. So you can plan it that way. Virginia beach was nice, loaded up our minivan with our chairs, buckets, etc. walked along the boardwalk, had dinner. Leaving early a.m. we got there early afternoon, bypassed most of the traffic. But you veer off 95. We thought the Chesapeake Bay bridge was pretty neat. Stayed at Disney Hilton Head, S.C. plenty of times during our stopovers. There's a beach house. You'll be a little bit off 95, but not too bad. Just a few more hours and you'll be at WDW from there, right at Georgia border so easy drive.

We took the ferry last year on our way home from Ocean City, MD. It was nice but it made for a much longer day.

I swear it took us 12 hours to get home from Maryland vs the 5 it took us to get there.

We got to the ferry, had to wait an hour for it, then we walked around Cape May for a few hours & then home. Hit some traffic near the city & got to my moms in Trumbull at about 10pm & I think we left at around 11am.
