I caught up with a friend yesterday who has just come back from Disneyland. They had an amazing time, kept a fairly relaxed schedule, go go go in the mornings, back to their DLH for a swim and a rest in the afternoon and then back for dinner and shows etc of an evening. Loved it.

Then she got to the part of the story where her DS7 hit his head on a coffee table and had a massive gash near his eye, blood pouring everywhere, you get the drill.

Her husband rushed down to the front desk and within minutes the phone in the room rang and when she answered this is what she heard:-

Disney 911, we understand you have an emergency, do you require an ambulance, how can we help you etc etc.

She was just sooooo impressed with how quickly Disney handled everything. They found her a list of nearby medical centres. They rang around and found one that didn't have anyone in the waiting room and they were quickly popped in a cab and taken straight there. Her son was also given a voucher for a free toy from whichever shop in DL that he wanted.

He ended up having 7 very neat stitches to his head.

I think it is so comforting to know that they really are so amazing when you are facing such a stressful situation.

But I'm so not surprised. It is Disney afterall.

Them bring so proactive probably helped calm her nerves considerably, and took the pressure off her to think about what she needed to do.

I'm hopeless in any emergency, I think it would be 100X worse in a place where you don't know where anything is to get help.

Glad all the little one needed was some stitches :)

Absolutely Becpee, it is very comforting to know they are right onto it and can help solve any problem

good to know ..now would they also have that at WDW????

They were also great with DD1 when she chipped her tooth on the bottom of the pool at the DLH on the first afternoon of our stay.

No charge to phone my dentist in Oz to seek his advice. Glass of milk and a cookie each night in the room when we got back. Nice!

Awww that is very sweet of them. Hope she wasn't in too much pain.

Only for the first 24 hours. She just had to chew on the side and drink through a straw. We have one day of pictures with a happy smile and then the rest with the chipped tooth. After DD2's adventure before camp a few weeks ago neither of them have their original front teeth

But with the magic of some great dentist's you would never know. My Dentist in Australia told me to leave it until we got home and he saw us in his lunchbreak on our first day back. All fixed before we were back at school. He also told me it would probably fall out in 12 to 18mths and we would just keep replacing but 5 years on and we are still going strong TOUCHING WOOD TOUCHING WOOD

That whole paragraph is just amazing isn't it? :lovestruc Everyone knows that feeling of "we could go to the Dr, but how much time is that going to take away from our trip?" So you don't want to go. To know that you could go straight into a medical centre without spending half a day waiting, makes the world of difference...

Whilst we were at GCH in September I got a message one afternoon that my Nan had suddenly taken ill. I tried to call home from my mobile but it was useless, so without thought I picked up the room phone. After a few unsuccessful attempts to reach my Aunt's mobile I managed to say goodbye to my beautiful Nan. She passed away the next day.

On our checkout morning I found our final bill hanging on the door. International phone charges were over $300 :scared1: I had been charged for all calls I attempted, not just calls I actually got through on, which there were only 2 of.

I went to the concierge and explained my situation, I had absolutely no problem paying for my successful calls, but not the rest. A quick phone call to his supervisor and my phone charges were wiped - all of them! The poor guy, I burst into tears and thanked him repeatedly.

Thanks Disney, you made a yucky time a little bit more bearable.

That is great that they looked after them so well. The poor kid, 7 stitches! That's one big cut! Hope he's ok now.

I fainted on arrival at AKL once, ambulance called, but I didn't go to the hospital (until the next day). We were given a room upgrade (small, from two beds to a bund bed room, which DS was thrilled about). We were also given free room service, I had salmon, it was about a $60 meal! We were also sent up a tray the next day, with zebra domes to see how I was.

What great stories. It's always wonderful to read about businesses that go 'above and beyond' to keep their customers happy.

Oh that's awful to hear you fainted on arrival. Definitely not how you expect your WDW experience to begin. Sounds like they looked after you with care and generosity.

I did end up spending the next day in Celebration hospital. They did tests and found I had no potassium, which is what made me keep fainting. Then they gave me a drug, along with the potassium at the hospital and I had an allergic reaction so had to stay longer! Drama Drama, $6000 later and I toddled off and enjoyed the rest of our WDW holiday.

Just mentioned this to dh to reinforce why we have travel insurance...he wants to know if you had any out of pocket expenses or did the insurance company pay it all, and how quickly

I didn't get ANY back! They (insurance company) made it SO difficult, I ended up just letting it go and cancelling the claim after about 5 months. I had to get full hospital records (which I couldn't seem to get from the hospital). I had to get all Dr's records from every Dr I had seen in the previous 5 years!!!!! That includes all specialists. As part was an allergic reaction to a drug, that I hadn't put on my insurance as pre-existing (always put my peanut allergy, but not the drug allergy for some reason :confused3).

I had told the hospital about the allergy, but they have a different name for the drug in the USA so didn't even know that they gave me the one I wrote down as allergic too. They also gave me the drug AGAIN to take home to continue until I got home after having to treat me for an allergic reaction to something they gave me. I called the pharmacy when I got back to AKL and luckily it was a british pharmacist. He asked my allergies, I told him and he said "OMG, that is what they have given you, don't touch it, it has a different name in the USA".

Anyway, the insurance companies will do all they can, make it as difficult as they can, to get out of paying out!

i still wouldn't travel without travel insurance. That was my bill after 10 hours in a US ER, what would it have been if I had to stay in there.

OMG :scared1:. Are you serious. That is awful. As you say, imagine if you had to stay overnight. Their health system is ridiculous.

What travel insurance company was this with..so we can avoid them
