Last night was the first MK After Hours Party. Has anyone heard whether crowds were light?

I'm lucky enough to be here and am going to Magic Kingdom Thursday to see how they handle us non-after hours folks.

I understand Travel Agents have been told they will clear the Park in the first hour-I'm interested to see if they are as "serious" clearing the Park as they are for MVMCP,etc.

Crossing my fingers that this experiment flops and Disney realizes they can't nickel and dime people for everything.

It looks like all dates are still showing availability as are most dates of the EMH so it's possible they won't get enough attendance to continue but it probably depends on the reviews after those first events. If people love them and do feel like they have the place to themselves more people will probably buy in.

I don't think you can call an added extra nickel and diming. It is not as if they are charging you $1 for each bus ride and $1 to scan your ticket to get into the park. It is an extra just like the dessert parties and the Halloween parties. Great if people find value, great if they don't. No one is being forced to pay.

I agree completely.

Only if you buy it. WE will not, any more than we buy dessert party tickets. SO for us, it is an event we just say no to.

Yes, it's optional, but when they take something away from me to offer that product, I still consider it gouging. And, yes, I understand that 'free' EMH hours have not YET gone away (they aren't actually free anyway, as they build those in the cost of the room). But, the new event is resulting in shorter regular hours, and that means it negatively impacts me if I choose not to pay.

Truthfully, nothing is ever free, so if you use EMH you are using a resort perk that is paid for, just as DME and Disney transportation is really paid for as well.

I know that perhaps hours may be reduced, but time will tell in that. I am going to "wait and see" but I am not willing to consider this price gouging or nickel and diming. I will promise to eat my words if the worst case scenarios come to pass.

Hours are already reduced vs prior years to make room for these "events".

You are assuming they would have been longer than what they are. No one knows that for sure.

Funny thing in various threads where park hours are discussed, most people liked the added hours because the parks were so empty. Doesn't make sense from a business standpoint to have them open then. If you can add things and draw in guests and make money, that is a smart business move. It does remain to see how many people find these extras worth paying for. Who knows, they may go the way of the extra Epcot time they tried last year.

They are lower than in previous years which is exactly what I said. And they are now charging for some of those same hours. You can word-smith it however you like...

I understand they are lower. What we are asking is if they would have been reduced anyway. We do not know. We also have no idea the return on disneys investments the longer hours generated. As consumers we may have
felt they were wildly successful, and maybe for us they were. Short lines, emptyish parks! Good deal! But for Disney? Maybe not so much.

I have no way of getting into their books to analyze every line item, so I just need to sit back and decide how it all plays out and if I find this to be overall a detriment for my family.

I'am interested to see how this goes also. We will be there in June and the hours are not updated so I'm thinking they are waiting to see if they want to add these events in June.
