Disney After Dark ticket purchase with AP

Hi all,
I am looking at booking the Magic Kingdom After Dark event for February. We will be AP holders at the time (Currently have them assigned in our My Disney Experience account but of course not activated until we arrive). We would like to get the AP discount but it seems you can't until you activate your AP.
If we book now do you think we can get a refund for the difference when we get to WDW? (I've had this with other tickets in the past).
Any other strategies people have in this situation?

My AP isn't active and I purchased six After Hours tickets for January 13th. I received the discount on all six of them. Last trip (2018) I didn't upgrade to AP until I arrived. It took a little while for the transaction but they refunded the After Hours tickets and then did the purchase with discount.

I, too, haven’t activated my AP yet and purchased at the AP price! Just had to sign in with my MDE account information.
