DISmoms Gone WILD!!!!! A trip to WDW w/out the KIDS!!!10/6 Updates p.36 FINISHED!

HOLD UP WAIT A MINUTE.. there was no alcohol on the safarie... your kidding me.. SHEWW good thing I DIDNT book it LOL

I know, right? Although we commented about it and I think our guide Amy and the driver would not have had a problem with it. Seems like they used to offer wine but it was eliminated. Oh well.

Ellen - I have my Jiko menu so I'll post the food porn I have with the desriptions from the menu!

First up, the much desired glass of wine - Graham Beck Gamekeepers Reserve, Chenin Blanc, Robertson:

DSC04991.jpg

If I remember correctly, this wine was pretty popular with our end of the table and we talked the waiter into bringing us a second bottle. :thumbsup2

Appetizers: Curried Samosas crispy pockets with potato, sweet corn, & sweet tamarind dipping sauce; Duck Cornfit salad with poached pear, dabo croutons, mustard-shallot vinaigrette and goat cheese; Spiced Briouats pulled beef rolled in Naan with tomato-date jam....................

DSC04992.jpg

Loved the salad; the other two appetizers were too spicy for me.

For dinner, we were each poured a glass of Graham Beck Gamekeepers Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon, Robertson. Forgot to take a pic though.

Platter-sized Entrees: Oak-grilled Filet Mignon with Macaroni & Cheese & red wine sauce

DSC04994.jpg

This was very good and the mac & cheese was especially delicious!

Maize-crusted Pacific Halibut w/vegetables of the Moment & Tomato-butter sauce:
DSC04993.jpg

By far, my FAVORITE entree! Sooooooo goooooood!!!!!!!

The chicken entree: Chermoula Tanglewood Chicken w/goat cheese potatoes, preserved lemons, & Harissa.

I didn't get a picture of this platter but I HATED this dish. I don't know what it was, but I couldn't even stand the smell of it. I'm not a fussy eater but I didn't want this anywhere near me. YUCK!

My plate with a little bit of everything:

DSC04996.jpg

The chicken is on the left. I kept it on my plate for the picture then got rid of it.

There was alot of food but you obviously had to be considerate of the fact that everyone needed to get a portion from each platter. Luckily for me, I was able to trade that chicken for an extra piece of halibut!

Dessert platter: House-made Meyer Lemon Curd w/Pomegranate & blueberry compote, White Chocolate Biscotti and Sour Cream Ice Cream; Tanzanian Chocolate cheesecake w/chocolate ganache, Amarula sauce, & lavendar ice cream; Pistachio Creme Brulee w/ a chocolate-layered bottom:

DSC04998.jpg

The Creme Brulee was my favorite!!!!

All in all, I thought the food was good and I'm glad I got to try Jiko but I don't think I'd make the trip over there to eat again. It is very expensive and I am just not a fan of the spices they use in alot of their dishes.

Cammie- thanks for having that menu!!:thumbsup2 I knew you would! I'm sure mine will turn up someday...

I liked all that food- and I LOVE spicy, hot food- so I was ok with all of it. The flavors are very different from what i would usually eat, and i think i need those flavors in small doses. I don't think I will ever eat at more than one of the AKV restaurants on any trip in the future, the flavors become too much for me after a while. And I really believe the full portions are so much better than what we had- for example, on the filet (which I had with Loni last year) it is a MUCH larger cut of filet, so I was able to have it Medium rare and it was much more buttery and tender that way (for me). For our family trip in Nov, I have Sanaa booked for lunch- we will be staying there and I am CRAVING the bread service with the coriander dip- it was sooooooooooooo spicy, oh, man, I can't wait!! And the shrimp in curry that loni had- and the short ribs....MMMMMMMMMM......:cloud9:

I have missed out on all of this thread! Don't ask me how! It screams at you: "read me!" I jumped in the middle where the swim suit modeling was going on with the black boots.:dance3: I don't think I am old enough to read this thread :sad2: This appears to be nothing but a DisMoms porn site.

P.S. wish I lived only 2 or 3 miles from you guys ;) ER, I mean, I am so embarrassed :3dglasses by this thread

You guys did know I was kidding, right? :thumbsup2 This trip was very entertaining to read about. It looks like you guys had a blast and I look forward to reading about your next one because I know you will do it again.

By the way, we met at the Dismeet in Epcot. I was the in the lime green shirt. :rotfl2: Oh, and driving a scooter! I knew you were going to be funny when you showed up with your kids on sticks:lmao: I mean, pictures of your kids on sticks!:rotfl:

The pictures of the animals are cute! What else are you supposed to do on a safari?

OK, getting packed up and ready to head out at 7am for a weekend at Disney.... woke up this morning throwing up. Not good. Feeling better now but not spending much time on the DIS today. I'll add MY giraffe pics on Monday, and my review of Jiko (hint.... I loved it!). But time to go rest so I feel better tomorrow.

OK, funny story first. Ally walked in on my praying to the porcelain god this morning, and she ran out to daddy crying that the trip would be cancelled. Glad she was so concerned about ME!!!! :rotfl2: So I just emailed her teacher and askedher to please tell Ally that I'm better now. Teacher just emailed back and said that Ally is in a much better mood now. Poor kid!

And yesterday I was burning some Disney park music to cds for the drive down. When Ally got in the car she immediately knew it was Epcot music playing!!! This girl is good!!!!!

Have a great weekend everyone and remember, more giraffes on Monday!!!!

Of course we knew you were kidding! :goodvibes And thank-you for all the lovely compliments! So- I think there were 2 people on scooters that day- were you the one standing next to me for the group shot? That would be a funny coincidence!!

HAve fun- hope your puke fest has finished for good!!:crazy2: Very impressed by Ally- one day I'm sure she'll be able to win every Disney Name That Tune competition- it all so exciting!!!!:hyper:

DH & I leave 4 weeks from today for Vero Beach DVC with Lonnie & Mike and then OKW for F&W by ourselves. WOO-HOO!!!:woohoo:

OH yummy Jiko looked great!

Oh No hope your feeling better Kara!

All caught up again. I think they need to add some drinks back to the safari too! :thumbsup2

Kara hope you stayed feeling better for the weekend and are having a great time!

Ellen - Aren't you supposed to be in Disney the same time we are in early Nov. too?

We're baaaaack!

Just a couple of pics from our weekend - just me and my Ally, and her BFF Emily and her mom (they live just down the street from us).

The parks seemed empty to me!!! Our longest wait was 15 minutes for Soarin with FPs - otherwise it was 10 mins for Snow White. Seriously, great time to go I think - all the southern schools have started, and very close to start of school year for everyone else. The rain actually held off all weekend, surprisingly, and the only time it got super hot was late in the afternoon on Saturday.

I think this is going to become a back to school tradition for us.

OK, let me get myself back together and I'll post my pics from the sunset safari and Jiko!!!

We're baaaaack!

The rain actually held off all weekend, surprisingly, and the only time it got super hot was late in the afternoon on Saturday.

Glad you had such a great time with the girls and the weather cooperated. FYI, it was in the low 40s this morning in Ohio! In August! :scared1:

My parents still live in NE Ohio, and I freak every time I visit them - I just can't do the cold anymore, after 13 years in SC and 2 years in FL, I think my blood has thinned!!!!

Great review of Jiko Camie!:thumbsup2I am not a fan of the African spices !!!I like my savories that way and my sweets that way !! For exampleI put butter and salt on pancakes :rotfl2: Okay I'm ready for all the YUKS!!!!!:lmao:Jo would understand I think it may be my Blue blood !!!!:rotfl:

Kara- how cool that Ally got to do the world with her BFF!!!:goodvibes And the Troll pic is- :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: HILARIOUS!!!!!!

Very glad you had nice weather- Saturday it rained here on and off which was kind of a bummer because Saturday was our Seafood Orgy- which I'll post pics of later. The weather cooperated enough for the lobsters to be eaten outside, and that is a BIG DEAL- they stink up the place!!!:snooty: Also the kids got a chance to get in the hot tub, so it all worked out. :thumbsup2 The only bad part is that I cut my hands with all these teeny, tiny little stabs from the lobsters when I was butterflying them to grill, and now they are kinda painful. :sad2: ICK!

Of course we knew you were kidding! :goodvibes And thank-you for all the lovely compliments! So- I think there were 2 people on scooters that day- were you the one standing next to me for the group shot? That would be a funny coincidence!!

YES!That was ME! Blonde hair and subglasses! Looks like we all were just one big happy family, doesn't it?:cool1:

This past Saturday was the Seafood Fandango, Orgy, Insanity, Ridiculousness- whatever you want to call it, it was a day of extreme excess and it was a blast! I thought I'd include some pictures because Joan, everyone's favorite farm girl and DISmomwannabe was here with us and she made 2 AMAZING dishes!! First, she made yummy crab cakes and some really luscious tartar sauce (that was different from any I've ever had before)-

2009_083006summer0002.jpg

I grilled some black mission figs stuffed with fresh mozzarella and wrapped with prosciutto, brushed with rosemary oil (sorry I took the pic when they were pretty depleted!)-

Evie's Shrimp Salsa-

My clams steamed in tomato, white wine, jalepeno & lemon-

2009_083006summer0030.jpg

A break in the feeding frenzy, the kids had hot dogs, corn on the cob, mac n cheese, and popcorn chicken prepared by Fiona and her daughters, then most of the kids hopped in the hot tub-

2009_083006summer0036.jpg

Gee...I wonder why no adults got in????:confused3 :rotfl: Now the main event- I grilled Lobsters basted with ancho chili lime butter, 30 lbs of them!

Joan made the BEST jambalaya-

2009_083006summer0043.jpg

Barry made potatoes and cuke salad to along with everything-

2009_083006summer0044.jpg

2009_083006summer0045.jpg

I made a gratin of zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant and potatoes-

2009_083006summer0053.jpg

Oh! And I made blue & yellow corn chips topped with avocado mousse, seared scallop, and jalepeno pesto. Joan and i assembled them, they went out, and by the time I got my camera, they were GONE!:scared1: And Fiona had Caprese Salad. And of course my girl Pam brought our friend Rita to the party!!! And we had wine and beer, too. Evie baked two incredible desserts, as usual. Red Velvet Cake-

2009_083006summer0046.jpg

And NY cheesecake-

2009_083006summer0047.jpg

Crazy, isn't it??? It's sooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun!! We started this maybe 4 years ago when Fiona's childhood friend, Val, came to visit from Scotland (fiona is also Scottish) and we wanted to show her a good time! So we figured let's start with some lobster....that feels very American, and kept adding on. The only thing missing this year? Sadly, Val. She stayed in Scotland this summer. Hope she will come back next year! Here's most of the women at the end of the night-
