Depends on my mood. Usually cheese though. My mom used to make them with Velveta cheese.

Now there is a second discussion to be had, the type of grits. My favorite is popcorn grits. We usually get a bag at the gristmill in Dollywood.

Yummy! Another place we will have to go.

Getting some hiking plans together. I would like to offer some hiking with the dis group. We are thinking Abrams Fall which is in cades cove. it is 5 miles and only 900 ft of gain. Cades cove is not open on wednesday so we would do this hike on Tuesday or Thrusday. I was wondering if people wanted to go which day they prefer. On that day we would hike Abrams Falls in the morning. We would also double up and in the afternoon that day hike Chimney Tops for those who would prefer to do that. It is short but violent.

We are also thinking about the Grapeyard Ridge trail that @tiggerdad had mentioned we could also do either on Sunday or Wednesday. It is about 6 miles and 1000 ft of gain, so not too difficult. For those who went in July they are both (abrams and grapeyard) are rated just a tad harder than Andrew's bald that we all did.

So two questions, which day do you want to hike tuesday or thrusday for Abrams falls? as for grapeyard i think your choice is Sunday or Wednesday. Don't worry about us we will pick if needed, but thought i would lay it out there.

When we meet up in June, would someone be willing to help Damien and I hook up our new grill to our propane line? We have the equipment but a little squeamish about hooking it up.

Absolutely, tools, a gas line and open flame. What could go wrong. LOL
Seriously, there are many people who have done it, so it'll be easy peasy

Abrams Fall
We would love to. We’ve always wanted to. Tuesday or Thursday is fine for us. We have no plans as of yet.

PS, we decided to go to Pigeon Forge for my birthday so we’ll be up there Easter weekend. We are staying at a brand new campground behind the Apple Barn that literally opens on April second so we’ll be the first to stay there. I've hiked Abrams more than any other trail. At least 10 times. It follows river the entire way. Up gradual, then down gradual. Repeats several times. Two split log bridges. If you're really brave, you can swim once you get there. That water is cold mind you! The great thing about Cades cove on Wednesdays and Sundays is it is car free, however you can bike or walk those days.

Chimney tops is a heart breaker. It was (prior to the fire destroying it), my absolute favorite trail. It is considered the most strenuous trail in GSMNP, based off amount of climb in the short distance.

Alum Cave Bluffs is pretty good. You get streams, old growth trees, upper elevation open views, and a unique bluff to explore. My youngest is determined to hike it with me so it'll be a must for us.

I'm open for any of them.

Benita,

I'll be happy to help. Joe (Tigger92662) and I have built race cars for a long time. Your gas line should be a breeze.

Kris,

Ian will likely be in for as many hikes as the group wants. I'll probably only do one day. DW won't go unless it is very short (mile or less) and not much elevation. I don't want to plan on being gone hiking for half the week. The hips are also still behaving and I'm nervous about tearing them up again.

On a side note, it is looking more likely that I will have the RS with us. It sounds like Kris is up for a little Dragon run and I know Ian will be in. That leaves one spot open. :drive:

@tiggerdad for alum cave are you guys going to the top of leconte or just to the cave?
Likely just the bluff. Not sure my bunch will be able to continue on to Leconte.

This is a good website about trails in the park if anyone interested in planning an outing.

Which brings me to a question...am I the only only one, that when you post a link it doesn't show the link, but there's a box with the spinning arrow like it's trying to load something?

I've seen a few of those over the last couple of days. The boards try to go out and resolve the site to provide a preview and I guess it's having issues with that code.

yes i am getting them all the time.

I am definitely in for the dragon run. i am sure bert would like to be the third. I am working on my hiking plan. Ideally it will go like this:

Tuesday we will do Abrams Falls in the morning and then Chimney tops in the afternoon. Not expecting people to do both. Chimney tops while not as good after the fire still is awesome, short but a violent climb. It is not for the faint of heart. However i know some might want to do one of those. Plus for Abrams can drive cade's cove. i am expecting we may come back to camp between hikes.

Wednesday we will do Grapeyard ridge. It was the one Michael mentioned. I rank this one up for the group.

I have not found my Friday hike yet but that will be a possible option though i expect it to be a harder hike than Tues and Wed.

How do people eat their grits?

I like lots of butter and cheese. Damien likes sugar and butter.
Butter and salt for me. I've had cheese when at a restaurant but always forget it when I make them. My wife tried sugar and milk and hated it. I told her they were grits not oatmeal! :rotfl2:I said kind of think of them as mashed potatoes, kinda sorta. Didn't matter, she never touched them again...

Absolutely, we can help with that. I am currently adding to my propane system.
@tigger92662, I can bring the alcohol...:drinking1
