DISmeet at D23 Expo! - Meet dates in 1st Post

Hi, CynthiaC925 will be attending the Starbucks meet - again, thanks for arranging and can't wait to meet you all! I am a sorcerer so will be happy to share about the Thursday events we have when I see you Friday am!

whoops forgot to put dates and hotel:
8/15-8/22
8/15-8/18 Hilton
8/18-8/22 Hyatt

Starbucks is the morning location, for now I said an hour before the opening because they haven't said when the Convention center opens, but I think the first presentations start at 9 or 9:30AM. I'd say between 7-8AM, but I'm pretty morning challenged myself!

I am the AJ part, Fran is my partner, who most likely will NOT make an AM meet!

Supposedly the full schedule has been released, but I'm not at home with my computer, so I've been accessing the DIS via smartphone. If nothing else everything should be clear after Thursday at 3PM when I check in for the Premier early shopping, and we get our packets!
OK, now I am torn reading other posts about people getting to the ACC at 6:30AM each day. Is that necessary? I will do it if I have to. But that means I will miss the morning meet at Starbucks and will just look for DISers in the queue. Thoughts anyone?

I have not been inside the ACC for about 25 years and it appears from maps that the D23 entrance will not be from Katella and then into the Arena but from the south side near the Hilton and direclty into the show flow area. Is that where people queue for the expo?

Whether or not you want to get in line that early is a personal choice. I don't see what it would accomplish other than meeting other crazed Disney fans. The line to get in will move pretty quick and unless you are running to get to the Disney channel dance party, nothing starts until 9:30 or so. The queue will probably extend from the glass doors across from the Hilton north towards Katella.

They want you to enter the Arena from Hall A not Katella. That way they can take away your electronics and stuff. It's possible the foyer will be open earlier, but the doors to the exhibit halls won't open until 9AM. I made up my schedule, and already I have started nixing presentations. There is so much on the floor to do. Personally I really enjoyed the Collector's forum last time. It took us quite some time to browse all those booths. Also the Parks & Resorts Pavilion was fun.

Last time we never made it for "rope drop" and each day we were later and later, however we still had a great time. I think you can get away with going to the meet and skipping the super early line up.

Wait a minute. I thought they take electronics at the individual presentation rooms. Do they take them as you enter the ACC? So you can never have them in the ACC?

The PDF version of the Expo guidebook states that only the WD Pictures Presentation in the arena on Saturday will require you to check your electronics. I believe I also heard an interview with the official "Disney Geek" state this as well.

While I've never been to the Expo before, I am leaning towards what FranandAJ (sp?) is suggesting as far as the meet on the first morning. Besides, I think I would much rather spend my morning with you nice people drinking coffee than in line for 3 hours!

No the Arena presentations is where they take them. And not ALL the Arena presentations just some. I'm hoping the Premier lounge concierge will know which ones, and that I have time to get up there and relax!

I've got to work Thursday, but will try to make the Friday morning meet...we're staying at the Anaheim Marriott 8/19-8/20 and Menage 8/20-8/24. Man I'm fired up for this convention!

I'll be flying solo, arriving tomorrow afternoon at the Clarion, and staying till Sunday evening. I'll try to make both the meets at the Hilton, but I was hoping to spend some time in the parks as well.

See you soon!

sorry, I forgot to say a BIG thank you for organizing this. I am staying at the Hyatt but happy to meet at the Hilton - I can leave the pin meet a little early - Trader Sam's is also SUPER awesome if you like the Adventurer's Club atmosphere - it's by the Disneyland Hotel. I am also traveling solo so would love to meet up with fellow Dis'ers.
Oh, and that's www.disneypincast.com - John Rick is the host.

The forums there seem to be down - where is the meet, the Anabella or Trader Sam's in DL?

Thanks!

My husband Michael, Merry Mousketeer, and I, Disney Enabler, will be attending D23 for the three days. We will be driving down from Northern California tomorrow and hopefully will be able to join you tomorrow night at 8pm.

I usually don't spend time on the Disneyland threads - usually on the podcast threads. I will be sure to check these out in the future.

Looking forward to meeting you and D23.

Carol
It's a great day to be alive!!!

Hi, I'm new(ish) - well, not really, I've been a lurker for years.

I'm going on Saturday only - looks like there is no meetup that day?

So the LGMH - I print it out and attach it to me somewhere? Is that right?

Would love to meet you and to personally thank HydroGuy for all his useful insights!

There is a meetup every morning 7-8AM at the Starbucks in the Hilton next door.

Yes wear the LGMH. I actually am wearing mine at the Expo but also at the parks yesterday, today and tomorrow. I have not seen any other LGMHs at the parks yet or had anyone notice mine. :cool2:

Ok, I am packed and ready to go.:)
Am driving to Candy Cane Inn after work tomorrow and will see you all at 8 pm at the Hilton. I hope the weekend is fabulous!:yay:

Our suitcases are packed. I went to the market today and bought groceries so that we can make sandwiches and salads for lunches and dinner. We have yogurt, cereal, cottage cheese and fruit for breakfast. I'm hoping that they let us bring in outside food because as we wait in lines for the presentations we'll be having lunch, snacks or dinner. We'll hit the Premeir lounge for free food if we have time.

I hope we get on the road before noon tomorrow, even though the event doesn't start for us until 3PM, we NEVER get out of our house on time, so I'm hoping we get out early in time to do the early shopping!

Hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow night at 8PM!

Okay, I soooo don't get some of the comments here. Why are people planning on getting there at 6:30am???? Seriously. Someone 'splain please. I don't get it.

Member early entry is at 9am. What am I missing? :confused3

I am hoping someone who is planning on getting there at 6:30am will explain, but I truly, honestly, sincerely am wondering (and concerned I am really missing something).

Well... the D23 Expo app specifically states: "No outside food, beverages, or coolers are allowed to be brought into D23 Expo 2011." So, not sure where that leaves you with your sandwiches and such, but just a heads up on that. And remember, Disney does not control or own the convention center so it is different than the Disneyland main gate.

Mmmm, Premiere Lounge free food sounds yummy. Especially given the above. I remember last time never having time to eat, but being hungry. I do wonder when people will have the time to go to the lounge though, but free is great! I would love to hear how that works out for you. Please share after the fact. :goodvibes

I can understand the no outside food & beverage, but cookers? Who the heck would bring any kind of cooker?

I'm just hoping that it is like last time and that Disney only has to print that because the ACC "requires it to be on the literature". Last time we brought in our own stuff the last three days it was only the first day that we were stuck eating their sucky food. We also bring food to other ACC events and haven't had a problem. Hopefully it's one of those things that the staff just doesn't enforce.

Otherwise, we will take turns going outside and scarfing down our food, but hopefully there won't be a problem. It's not like we'll be bringing in a big cooking station and utentsils, but we'll have to see how things go! I will definitely be reporting all that and more on my TR. I can't resist food porn, even if it's my own softcore! :rotfl2:

Ahahahaha! Oops! Okay that's funny because it's a typo that ALMOST makes sense. Coolers. Although I bet cookers would be denied too! ;) (It IS nice to know you were reading. :) ) :surfweb: :upsidedow

Just an FYI for everyone: I noticed that in the pdf Guidebook for the "Building Worlds: Inside The Walt Disney Studios" session is states that "Cell phones, cameras, and all recording devices will be checked for this presentation."

Just FYI, here is a map of the area. If you are staying on Disney Property and planning on walking or taking the shuttle, you can see from this map that the Hilton is closer to parts of the Convention Center than the Arena where some of the presentations are taking place....
I'm sorry, maybe I'm just not processing things tonight, but can anyone please explain to me what this means??? The Arena is IN the Convention Center so I don't understand how the Hilton is closer the parts of the CC than the Arena is. We were planning on taking the shuttle from DL. Do we get off at the Hilton? At the CC? Anyone? Anyone? Thank you!

Since I did not go in 2009 I was picturing folks lining up at 6:30 so they could be among the first into the Expo and then among the first into whatever presentation queue is of interest to them.

So Dreams, some here are saying that one can get in line at 10AM for the Friday Legends presentation at the Arena scheduled for 11AM and still be able to get in. Does your crystal ball say the same thing? If so then 6:30AM seems like overkill and 8:30AM sounds about right...

I know that sounds funny. My DD(13) plays volleyball and has play at ACC. Teams that will bring in their own food and some of those volleyball mom really get into providing good food. I wouldn't put it pass some of them to try bring in a crock pot or two. :)

As for me, I cook a tritip for dinner the night before a tournament and make tritip sandwiches for lunch. Which by the way is my strategy for tomorrow. They are very yummy.
