Disliking split bathrooms

After 19 cruises on DCL covering all 5 ships I've reached the point where the novelty of the split bathrooms has worn off. We (wife and I) regularly sail on other lines (Royal and Celebrity mostly) where they don't have such a "feature". What we find is that whenever we need something it's often in the other bathroom. Also, there is hardly enough room to turn around in these split baths.

Never tried one. I make a choice to get a non-split bathroom on the Wonder because I figured I wouldn't like it.

We’re Platinum and I never cared for them. Having sailed several other cruise lines, why haven’t they copied it?

I like the split but I unpack knowing which bathroom to put stuff. We had one bathroom that’s fine too.

Especially when the kids were small we could shower and not worry about someone needing the washroom.

i think the split bath works great for families. We enjoyed it when our son was young and was in the same cabin as us. I'm sure larger families really appreciate it. But now that's he's an adult it's usually just my husband and myself. If our son and his girlfriend do come with us they get their own cabin. For a party of two I'd much rather have one larger bathroom like we find on other cruise lines.

But I get it. DCL's bread and butter is families - thus, split bathrooms. Either way it's not a deal breaker for me. It's just a bathroom.

LOL! Not a curmudgeon at all, we are all entitled to our opinions. I do feel when it is just DH and I, while I still like the split, it's not necessary. When we have sailed as a family of 4 it was definitely a godsend. Our next cruise will be 4 adults in 1 room and I pray we get the split bath when we get our room assignment.

THIS is key! Strategically unpack, and stock things where they will be needed. I also have a shoe holder than I hang on the hook outside the bathroom so I keep a lot of stuff out there so its always handy.

Some of HAL's newer ships have a category called "Family Oceanview," and those cabins have split baths. I had one as a solo (I had booked an OV Guarantee) and liked it, although I found myself using both spaces because I liked the walk-in shower in one and the sink area in the other.

I am always surprised that I fit in the toilet bathroom. September '23 we booked a Fantasy cruise 7 weeks out VTY and were placed in the corner on Deck 7. WOW - so roomy. The bathroom was incredible - so comfortable. The bathroom is as large as the bathrooms in the Polynesian. We're cruising in November and we're going to be missing that large bathroom with the walk-in shower.

Works great for us, but we have a 6 and a 10 year old so we can be brushing 2 peoples teeth while somebody showers. It's hard enough getting us all ready for bed after dinner...

I can definitely see how it'd be pretty pointless for a single person or a couple, however

It works great for just the two of us. We have an unspoken deal where my stuff is in the toilet/sink one, and DH's is in the shower/sink one. We stage our morning preparations to take advantage of that arrangement and then swap (or time shift - I sleep in a bit longer). We never intentionally planned it that way; we just did that on the first trip, and it's always worked since. Some of our items we keep out on the shelving in the main room (e.g., sunscreen) and grab what when we need it and go into whichever side is open. We find it way more efficient for us.

It worked when we brought our girls but since they are adults now they rarely sail with us so for my wife and I one bathroom would make more sense.

We’re the same - DH loves having his own bathroom space to set out his items, and I have mine. And he’s a bedtime shower taker while my morning shower wakes me up, so that works great, too.

When I sail solo it does feel a little silly to have a split bath. Normally I’m booking an inside or *GT though, I don’t think any of my last GTY rooms have given me a split bath.

When I sailed with my friend it was SO amazing to have the split bath so we could both get ready at the same time. Especially in Alaska with the early port days.

Essentially it doesn’t bother me either way.

Lol, I know what you mean - last cruise I kept going into the wrong one as I couldn't remember where I'd left stuff Luckily the boy barely uses the facilities so I didn't have to wait, however it was nice to be able to avoid some nasty smells created by him

I only like it when sailing with a friend so we each keep the tootbrush/hairstuff on a seperate one and can get partially ready at the same time in the morning but yeah, def no must for me

Even as a solo I prefer them. I can do the getting ready thing in the toilet room after taking a shower while that's still losing the humidity. I hate getting dried off then going back into a small bathroom that's still humid from my shower. When I'm on other lines and just have one bathroom, I end up doing the getting ready bit outside the bathroom to let the bathroom de-humidify.

You do have to be proactive and make sure certain things are in the shower room vs. the toilet room. Otherwise it doesn't work. It did work great with kids. The two of us- I would prefer one huge bathroom, but either way. All good, not a deal breaker.

I agree. I preferred the size of the bathroom on Celebrity over the convenience of the split. It had a full size shower too (with fantastic water pressure), which didn't make me feel like Buddy showering in the North Pole. The split was nice for four people, particularly when three ware makeup and do their hair, but isn't great for two in my opinion.

My husband and I shower at different times of day, so it's nice that I can shower and he can use the other bathroom and vice versa.

After a week on the wonder last week with a non-split bath, I prefer the split bath but I can’t pass up the savings on that type of inside cabin as a solo traveler. I like not having the toilet where the shower is. Also with the non split bath, there was no outlet in the bathroom to charge my toothbrush.
