Dishwasher recommendations

We've remodeled most of our kitchen, but didn't replace the appliances as they were only 5-10 years old when we bought our house. It's been 8 years now and things are starting to break. Right now the pressing thing is the dishwasher. It's never been great, but it's better than washing by hand. Some of the "prongs" that hold the dishes started rusting and breaking off. We tried to repair them, but that only held up so long. Also, the last few times I ran it I noticed some rust on the bottom. It's still getting things clean as far as I can tell, but even DH had to admit it's time for a new one.

So, I need dishwasher recommendations. I don't want to break the bank, but I don't mind spending more if it's quiet and does a really good job. I would love a fast drying cycle. Anybody have their dishwasher for a few years and still love it?

I am going to be purchasing new appliances in the next few months, so I have been doing some research. The Bosch dishwashers are the quietest, so much so that some need a light on the floor so you know when it is washing and when it's not. Also, some models have a third rack on top for utensils.

We just bought a Kenmore Elite Model 12782 and love it. It was a lot more expensive than our last one (Samsung - which was horrible) but this one actually cleans the dishes. We just scrape them off, don't need to rinse and they actually come clean in the dishwasher. It actually does what it says. We bought the extended warranty. It's the best dishwasher we've ever had.

ha! we are on our 3rd Bosch. (two houses and the recent one was because #2 died after 8 years of HARD HARD use). We have been very happy with Bosch and we happen to have the one with the light on the floor when it's running. It's lovely. If I get another 8 years out of this one I will be happy. We run 1 or 2 times a day and every once in a while 3.

We were looking at Bosch machines today. One salesperson really didn't want to sell us one. He said they don't really dry the dishes? Also it doesn't chop up the food. Do you clean out the trap thing regularly? I really want that third shelf..

No problems with drying. I have one that we got maybe 8 years ago. We do run a load almost every day.

It's not as quiet as it used to be. We have found out that we need to scrape a little bit more because the trap may occasionally clog. If you don't scrape fairly well, there may be food left on the dried dishes.

However, for it being a 8 year old dishwasher it still runs well. It isn't time to replace just yet.

I've posted before recommending Bosch. I've had mine for over 10 years. I have had ONE service call. I broke a plate and a small chip went into the trap and was causing a loud noise. The serviceman came and removed the trap reached in and took out the chip. Took 2 minutes! Now I know how to do it myself. I was pretty angry that I didn't need to get a new machine!!!! I had to replace my fridge and thought it would be a good time to go stainless. Anyway, I love my Bosch-it's extremely quiet, plenty of room, and it dries the dishes just fine. The only time it doesn't is when the Jet Dry dispenser is empty, and that's my fault.

Mine dries great. The plastic almost always still is wet but it's plastic and I don't think I've seen a dishwasher that gets plastic bone dry.

Yes, it doesn't chop up food but we clean the drain rarely. My husband says he checks it every other month and there is nothing in there. We scrape plates but I am not that careful about food getting in there. So yes, checking the filter sounds horrible but it's a non-issue for us.

Three drawers! Oh, how I wish that were available when we bought. Ours has a top drawer that is adjustable on the fly very easily.
