It is definitely interesting to hear how many people are into Harry Potter. I may have to try it out.

I have previously been a big fan of Stephen King (my favorite being The Stand uncut version) and some Dean Koontz. I did like Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. Of course, I had to read The DaVinci Code and that was really good reading despite the controversy.

If you like Stephen King, I highly recomend the "Gunslinger" series (I think it is 7 books) I read the first one, and am going to read the rest of them later this year

Wynn's hair actually looks much shorter than it was because of the ponytail... it was 1/2 way down his back! It's a band thing...

The work was TERRIBLE! It took the better part of a year to clean it up... every single weekend for months!

I don't blame you- as much as I cannot wait to read the book, I am staying FAR AWAY from the midnight parties. I will go to Target tomorrow morning, pick up the book, and read it for most of the day

My other plan was I was going to go to a late showing of the movie, then go to a 24 hour Stop & Shop (supermarket) and pick up my copy on the way home
The second plan sounds like fun, if you are that big of a fan! (we have "Stop & Shop" here in NJ, too. ;) )

I have not read the books... nor do I plan to. We have all the movies on DVD, and will get the new one when released. I don't take my kids to the theater to see the moies since they are pretty intense. We watch them at home, and when it gets too intene, the kid will wander off to play. It is not uncommon for it to take them 2 or 3 showings to see the entire movie! As for the books... I can't stand to read a book after seeing the movie. I think the book ruins the movie, as the book is always better. If I want to do both, then I do read the book first... never the movie first! I love reading Michael Crichton (sp?) books such as Jurassic Park series, Leviathon, Congo, etc. The movies don't come anywhere close to those books!
I find that seeing the movie after the book always disappoints me, because my "picture" of the characters never matches the casting! :goodvibes

I am very pleased that I SAW "Gone With the Wind" before I read the book, because as I read, I could visualize Vivian Leigh, Clark Gable, and Olivia de Havilland in their rolls, instead of my own picture! (GWTW is my all time favorite book AND movie!)

I really dislike "fantasy" and "science fiction" genres.. When all the hoopla started with Harry Potter, I asked Bob if he would read it first, because I couldn't bear to read it. :goodvibes He enjoyed it, and then the "tradition" started of he and Dana reading each one together.

My favorites are probably what you would consider the "classics"... GWTW, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, All Quiet on the Western Front, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farms, Lad-A Dog, Little Women, Wuthering Heights.... and another BIG TIME FAVORITE in book and movie - "Rebecca" Does anyone like "Rebecca"?

There's your librarian showing through! :lmao:

I don't like to see the movie first because it gives away the highlights of the book. The book has so much suspense and gets indepth, but the movie breezes past it, and gives away the plot. Talk about a spoiler!

Yep - you "outed" me....:rotfl:

I love all those books. I know Rebecca! I also like Harry Potter though and my dh is gotten me into these books called by a guy called Eddings. He's really good. But he's fantasy as well. :)

I have to "out" myself now... I generally read either trashy romance (historical) or sci-fi ghost stories, murder mysteries, and such. I have to alternate my heavy and light reading... or the heavy stuff starts to get to me! I love Bently Little and Noel Hynd, if any of you have read any of those. Also, my schedule stays so busy that I need to read the "fluff" because the heavier novels are to hard to follow. I can read my romances once a week for 30 minutes and keep up just fine! Try that with the other stuff and I end up so lost that I give up or start over!

Oh, I'm a "romance" reader, too - beginning from my teen years and those goofy "Harliquin Romances"!

I like Barbara Delinsky, Debbie Maccomber, Nicholas Sparks, and Maeve Binchy's works.
Some of Nora Roberts can be ok, but some are a little TOO "fluff" for me. ;) That's my "sit by the pool and tan" kind of book! :beach:

Just finished "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. Yikes. Did anyone read that one? Boy, did that bother me... thought a lot about my sister's situation and her kids... not the "same" situation, but hit a little close to home with the thought of is one child's welfare more important than another..
I guess a book is "good" if it stays with you long after you put it down.

Also just read "Daniel Isn't Talking", by Marti Leimbach, a novel about a child with autism. It was interesting.

Ok... that's it for "Renée Book Club" for today....:goodvibes

Renee - I guess that Amanda was just homesick...she has said that everyone was nice and she did have some fun but she wanted to be home. Congrats on 1,000 posts!!!

Kari - your poor mom and her house...that must have been terrible for everyone trying to clean all of that up and get things back to normal.

Kari- the hurricane-how scary. I remember that one. Have a great photo of sunset the night it hit the coast but it is on a floppy and our new computer doesn't have a slot for disks. We got a lot of rain from it but nothing as bad as you.

Tony- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DM- Kevin, Ryan and I have all read the Harry Potter books and all 4 of us has watched the 4 movies, have them on video and dvd. I will be waiting a few months before going out to buy the last book.

Love The DaVinci Code along with the book that goes before it but came out after it. Angels and Demons. Mitch Albom is a great read both Ryan and I read Five People You Meet in Heaven and Ryan just finished Just One More Day by Mitch Albom. From the Classics love- Tale of Two Cities, Great Expections, Little Women and the three others that go with it, Any thing by Charles Dickens, Edgar Allen Poe, and last but not least White Fang. I love to read, and will read anything that I can get my hands on. As for mystery books I enjoy Lillian Jackson Braun and Dick Francis.

I forgot to add Mitch Albom on my list... I enjoyed those two books, also!
And, I just finished one of a religious nature - Peggy Noonan's "John Paul the Great"... It was a real "feel good" book about the late Pope. I like her editorials and political analysis pieces.
