Over the last 2 weeks or so, we've gotten a call nearly every day from a company called Medcorps (sp???). They leave messages each time (because we don't pick up when the CID says it's an 800#, or if it says Unknown Name)saying that it's very important we call back. They never tell us why it's so important that we call them back, just that we call back soon.

Last night, I finally got fed up enough to call them back and got an answering machine. I left my name but not my phone number and told them never to call again. I was hoping that would be the end of it.

Yet when I got home this afternoon from work, they have called AGAIN. I called them back at the number they left and was again (after about a 10 min wait)directed to a voice mail box. I left the same message as before, with my name (but no ph #)asking them to never call us again.

I attempted to look up the ph.# they gave me with reverse lookup on 411.com, but their search engine can't seem to find it. Can somebody more computer savvy than I possibly find it if I PM you the ph# for Medcorps? I'd really like to give them a piece of my mind...provided I can actually get through to a person.

Um they probably can't take your phone number off of a list unless you tell them what number you're calling about.

I did tell them. Twice now. I told them I didn't know WHY they were calling me and to please stop. In the first message, I told them I was pretty sure DH or I had never had any dealings with them and they had no reason to call us at all.

When they leave messages, is it a real person? If so, answer next time and tell them to put you on their "do not call" list. If this is the organization that is calling you:

"Ambassadors of compassion helping the children of the world."

MedCorps International Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization comprised of individuals in the natural products industry who are dedicated to improving the health and well being of disadvantaged youth worldwide. MedCorps collects and distributes 100% of all donated health products and educational materials to those in need. MedCorps' network of committed individuals who make health their business are making the health of others their business as well.

then you need to specifically tell them you want to be on their do not call list for them to be required to stop calling (because they are non-profit). The fact that you are not leaving your number means they can claim they were given insufficient information to stop calling. I wouldn't leave my number on an answering machine either, so I would try to get a person-- then you shouldn't have to give your number because THEY called YOU.

There is a company called Medcor that deals in health care insurance for businesses. From your post you didn't seem to be sure of the actual spelling. What if it has something to do with your insurance coverage? Do you know for sure that it is a telemarketer? Have you had any recent doctors visits? They wouldn't leave a message about that on your machine because of the health privacy act.

Are they asking for you by name or just leaving a generic message?

and your fisrst post says that you didn't leave your number the two times you called :confused3

It is probably a telemarketer. If you're on the Do Not Call list they are in violation. If they are not a telemarketer then they are a collection agency.

When someone calls repeatedly DH finally gets fed up and answers the phone. If they are trying to sell something he says no thank and asks to be removed from their list.

You said you left your name, but not your phone number.

Next time, pick up so you're actually talking to a person. Then politely let them know that you're (a) not interested in anything they're selling, or (b) probably not the person they're trying to call.

No biggie, but the key is that you need to answer the phone to be connected to someone who can probably help.

Are you sure it was an 800 number? I thought I heard a while back that companies scam people like this and when people call back they are calling an international number and are charged huge amounts of money on their phone bill. I would call your phone company and just double check the phone number. Are you on the "do not call registry"? Maybe that will stop it? If not, do a search and definately register for this with your home and CELL phone numbers. Pretty soon telemarketers will be allowed to call your cell phones too if you don't register that number.

No..it doesn't sound like a 'real' person, DG. It sounds like a 'real' person on an answering machine.

Our health insurance isn't through Medcor. It's through United, so I know that's not the reason they are calling. I'm pretty sure it's a telemarketer,OWP.

It's a generic message. The 'person' leaving the message simply states that they have left several messages for us recently and that we should call them back immediately at *suchnsuch* number.

Yes..the number starts with 866, so I'm pretty sure it's an 800 number.
We have already registered with the Do Not Call List..ages ago. Back when they first introduced it as a matter of fact. DH was thrilled they came up with something like this because prior to the DNCL, we were getting between 20 and 30 telemarketer calls A DAY!

I'm with Kathy. If you want it to stop, answer the phone and tell them to stop. Don't let it just keep ringing.

Then leaving your name without a number is probably useless. they most likely know your name or who you are.

There is also a MedCore that is a medical bill collection agency. They also wont leave information on an answering maching...just tell you its urgent you call them back. The only way to handle is to answer the phone, get to the bottom of who they are and why they're calling. You may have a dr.s bill or something that insurance hasn't paid all of and they're trying to collect from you. Hope you get it worked out.

If I were ever home when they called, I would. But they always seem to call when DH or I are at work. :(

WD--I don't know why a COLLECTION agency would be calling us. We haven't been to the dr's in months and all of our medical bills are paid off at the moment. :confused3

Thank you guys for all the advice. I'm off on Monday (holiday) and maybe they'll call back then. Then I can give them a piece of my mind and I hope they choke on it.

Do you have a friend or family member who owes $$$ to MedCore? Do you know if anyone has used you as an emergency contact or reference? Medcore might be calling you to try to track him/her down.

Now that I don't know. The only possible person that could ow $$$ to MedCore as far as I know is my sister.

But if she did this, and they're calling us because of her (it's happened in the past),she's going to get it.

It sounds to me like a collection agency. If they are not asking for you by name, they may have a bad number. When I moved to Florida, I was given a phone number that belonged to a family that owed money to everyone. I got tons of calls from collection agencies. If I wasn't at home and had a message on my answering machine, I always made sure I called back and got a person to speak to. I told them they had a bad number and they removed my number from their system.

If you just left your name and they are really looking for someone else, there is no way for them to remove you from their system. They work off phone numbers. You will need to speak to a person. They will ask your phone number. They will look up the number and ask you if the person they are looking for lives at your residence. Just tell them no and to remove your number. They are usually very nice about it.

If you want them to stop calling you'll have to give them your number. Trust me when I say the chances of you getting on their Do Not Call list without giving them your phone number unlikely. I've had a few times like that were it is voice messages, I called the number and stated that I wanted to be placed on their Do Not Call List with my name & phone number and it finally stopped. Take note of the name and number and retain that, if they call you back after 30 days you can file a complaint or even go to small claims court but you'd have to have documentation showing the calls.

Often Do Not Call requests won't happen immediately, there are lots of computer connections behind the scenes that make it impossible. Give it some time and it might even happen as a result of the calls you've already made.

If you are registered on the National List you can file a complaint with them.

I guess the only thing for me to do then is to either A)Call them and leave my ph# (which I am wary about doing) and ask them not to call again or B)Hope they call on Monday (when I'm off) and give them a piece of my mind and ask them not to call again.

When I called last night, I was put through straight to voicemail (even though they'd called ME not 5 min before)which told me office hours were from *time* to *some other time* *some time zone*.

Today when I called, I got cheesy wait music and "Your call is VERY important to us. Please stay on the line for the next available representative." for about 10 min before I got sent to voicemail.

I had been getting calls from a bunch of company's a while back. Some were asking for a person that did not live here (I must have gotten this person's phone #), others saying that it was important to call such and such # back. I thought they would just go away, but they just kept calling. I was home for a few of them, and told them I was not the person they were trying to reach, and others I finally called the # back and said who I was and that the person they were looking for did not have this # anymore. This went on for about 6 months.

Also, I got a phone call a few months back from a company that NEEDED to talk to me. Well, it was a collection agency looking for my loser BIL and SIL. DH was very upset that this company called us, but more upset at his brother for putting our name and phone number somewhere where we were now getting hounded for HIS unpaid bills. Needless to say, he called his brother and read him out. We have NEVER gooten another phone call looking for him, although I think that is more of a coinsedence than anything.
