lovemickeya - can I ask you some advice? My neighbor's son has Autism and I just don't know what to get him when it comes to things like Christmas and birthdays. Any tips you could share? He's 8 as well. I would rather give him things that I know he can use or he'll enjoy, you know?

Shelby

P.S. Did Brae's Mom give us details about the trip yet and I missed it??????

My DS is really into skateboards (little mini ones he keeps in his pockets), Toy Story anything (Woody and Jessie more than Buzz (I guess because they are more real looking). Anything that helps him relax - soft things (squishy stuff or silky blankets), We have a small excerise trampoline in his room so when he gets "worked up" he goes and "stims" by Jumping. It is the BEST $25 we EVER SPENT.

This year music is the biggest motivator for DS, we bought him a Fisher price FP3 player (fisher price -tough kids ipod) last year so we have just been uploading different songs through out the year (Jessica Simpsons, NKOTB). This week his song of choice is "With you" by Jessica Simpson and "Hanging Tough" he is really driving me crazy with the OLD School stuff. But I got in trouble a few weeks back by DH when he was singing "Single" (If you aint got no money- I be your boyfriend):confused3 , so we had to change his songs. LOL HE is DEFINETLY MY KID. :)

I hope this helps gives you an idea. Children with Autism definetly make you apprieciate the "little things".

Have a great Thursday, I will check back in a bit, off to take kiddos to school.

Nope Crystal (aka Brae's mom) is being a slacker:rolleyes: I got so behind at work while I was on vacation that I've been taking my work home with me all week and have only had seconds to hop on here and keep up with the latest and greatest. I promise to get the the details very soon. We are having a Christmas party at work today at noon that I am not going to, and I think they are going to let us go home if we don't go to the party, so hopefully tonight. I'm still here just very busy!!!! Hope everyone has a great day!

Crystal, I'm dying to hear your story!

Shelby, I think my husband has become the monkey with the hot stove ... he didn't ask if I needed help until clean-up. I think he may still be "burned" from the first time he tried to help and he busted me going behind him and re-icing his cookies (come on! We were making them for a 60+ person LSU tailgate ... they had to be perfect!). I still have a few to ice up today and then it's on to the dark chocolate chip cookies and a new venture, truffles. I love to bake too. I've had people ask if they could buy cookies from me, but then it becomes a job and not a hobby and I'm not into that. Instead, I just give them to them.

Did I tell you all a few nights ago, I had a dream that after every show, NKOTB would stay at my house. It was like a common occurrence, as in the dogs didn't even budge when they walked in the door and I wouldn't flinch when I would come home and find them watching TV in the living room.

I think I'm losing it.

Question to all ... I have a 14-year-old step-niece whom I have no clue what to buy for Christmas. She's getting cash (like my three other nieces, one of which is also 14), but that "little gift" to accompany is the problem. I'm looking for something around $20-30. I just know she is into texting, facebook and headbands (which she has a million of). Any ideas?

lovemickeya - thanks for all the info! That's very helpful. I have to say, I cracked up about your son singing 'SINGLE'. That's a riot!!!

Brae's Mom - come on, girl!! We want the details!!!!

angey - how about an iTunes gift card or something like that? OR another one I like is a gift card to your local movie theater. It's nice for kids to be able to just go and not have to worry about $$.

That's funny about re-icing after your hubby did it. I can see myself doing that too. Mmmm, truffles - I made them a few years ago and they were a big hit! I got little white boxes at AC Mooore and put them in there with a little wax paper on top. They were all in their little cups, it looked very much like they came from a candy store! The kids gave them to some of their teachers.

A dream about NKOTB? I can totally see that. Although, I'm pretty sure mine wouldn't be quite so G rated!:lmao:

Shelby

Oh, for those of us who missed it, or whose DVR MESSED UP!!! .... Rachel Ray is re-running the NKOTB episode today.
I'm not a fan of Rachel Ray, but I'll endure her to see it.

It just hit me ... maybe the NKOTB episode will be on today, maybe not. I wasn't really paying attention to the episode on yesterday, but maybe it was a rerun and that original show had "on tomorrow's show."
Either way, I'm DVRing just in case. The worst thing that could happen is I would have to fast forward through the typical RR interview of asking the person a question and then she acting like she was asked the same thing and blabbing about herself.
"Do you like pasta?"
"Yeah, it's pretty good."
"OOOh, I LOVE pasta ... especially when it's with meatballs. And my husband John likes linguine. And we make a great home-made version for Boo."
Not like I've ever heard that exact interview, but that seems to be the direction it usually goes. :lmao:

I am not a big Rachel Ray fan either. So you impression of her interview is exactly what I think, also.

The UK NKTV was there last night. I wonder if it was removed?

Sorry you are having a crappy day, Shelby!!! Hope your gift gets there in time and that the gingerbread turns out yummy!!!

Hope everyone else has had a good day. I still have sick kids. One of my twins has pneumonia. :sad2: Poor little thing sounds like she is going to cough up a lung. It came on SO fast. She started getting sick Sunday night and I took her to the Dr. yesterday and it had already developed. I hope she starts feeling better soon! I want her to enjoy Christmas!

UGH. I know what you mean. This is the 3rd week that one of my 2 kiddos is sick. First week - stomach bug thingy - vomit, diarrhea, headache. Last week - dd5 strep throat. This week - dd1 strep throat. I am going out of my mind!

And speaking of dreams - I had a dream last David Cook (from American Idol) got killed?! It was weird. He's my other crush. I couldn't imagine if I dreamed one of NKOTB died! :scared1: Maybe it's all the sickness floating around my house.

OK ya'll, you've been asking and I am here to tell you my woes about my vacation. I need to give you a bit of a preface first. In 2006 my mom decided that we should begin a tradition that every other year myself, my mom and my daughter will go to Disney. Great idea right? Well I thought so until I got home from that first trip swearing that I would never go on another trip like that with her again. Don't get me wrong. I love my mother dearly, but she is a stress bucket and does not know how to relax.

Fast forward to this past January and she got the "itch" to go back to Disney for our trip. I really thought that she would not want to go again either, but she remembered how much fun we had had in 2006, so she wanted to go again. I sat down with her and gently reminded her of the reality of the last trip and she actually agreed that she had been very stressed out and a bit overbearing on that trip and "promised" that this would be different. It was Disney so I suckered, and besides she was paying for most of the trip, so why not give it another chance.

So trip was planned we were leaving Friday, Dec 5th. As I was madly trying to begin packing on the 2nd in the evening I walk by my daughter and touch her forhead as I pass......:scared1: holy cow she was burning up. I do the normal parent thing...give her tylenol a cool shower and make her rest. She is not better the next morning so I take her to her doctor who says she has a "viral croop" type thing. She's fine to go on the plane and once she gets into the Florida sun she will be fine. She also said that her cough might get worse before it gets better and that if she is not better by the following Wednesday I should have her re-checked in FL.

We go to Florida and the first day was great. Although my daughter I could tell was really not feeling well. That Saturday we went to Downtown Disney to meet some of our family who lives in the Orlando area that we had not seen for awhile. We agreed to meet them in front of Planet Hollywood. So we met them under the little covering right outside Planet Hollywood where you can hear the music from inside the restaurant, we're standing there saying our hello's and my daughter gasped.....I had wanted to but didn't......she just looked at me waiting for me to get excited but instead she was just quiet, of course everyone looked at her. My cousin, who has known me since I was the crazy high schooler in love with Jordan knew exactly what was happening. They were playing "Single" at Planet Hollywood. Of course I had to explain to everyone what was happening and how I had just seen them in concert and acted like a 14 year old again and how I had lost my voice for a week and on and on. Anyway, that was a bright point for the day.

The next days were park days and while I had fun with my daughter, my mom sorta drove me nuts. So Tuesday morning rolls along and my daughter is coughing like she has been smoking for 99 years, so I decide to take her to the clinic just to make myself feel better. Needless to say I did the right thing. The dr there said if I had waited another day he would have probably admitted her to the hospital, yep she was that bad, she had a double ear infection and a bronchial pneumonia type thing. We had several medications and we had to wheel her around in a wheelchair for the rest of the trip. Which you can only imagine how fun that was to try to keep an 8 year old in a wheelchair when they want to get up and go run around and look at something. It was cool for about 20 minutes. The thing with my daughter is, like some of you have said, I never know she's sick until she's REALLY sick because nothing keeps her down.

Long story.......sorta short. We had a good trip, it was Disney after all. But if I go again with my mother, my dh will be with me and my step dad will be with her and we will have our own rooms.

Good news is we never waited more than 5 or 10 minutes in line. We had a couple of ride breakdowns, we walked out of Ellen's Universe of Energy in the dinosaur part, that was kind of neat. It was just a long trip and I was so glad to get home and see my hubby again, and back to my NKOTB CD in my car. I know I forgot to bring it for the rental car and the rental car wouldn't play my i pod.

Wow, Crystal! That was crazy! I'm assuming your daughter is all better? You can tell the difference between kids and adults ... I wouldn't mind having someone push me around WDW in a wheelchair, especially after, say, day three.

She is better now. We had to go back to the doctor when we got home because one of her ears was still bothering her, but the doctor said no infection remained. We are now getting ready to do some asthma testing after the holidays!

OK, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me ...

I just saw a commercial during The Today Show that TODAY is the re-run of NKOTB on Rachel Ray. It better be!

I just checked the info for Rachael Ray today and it is the re-run of NKOTB. Yay! I have not seen it!

Crystal... I know all about having a mother drive you nuts! I don't think I could go to Disney with mine! Glad to hear that your DD is feeling better! My youngest had croup when we were moving in October and it wiped her out! I was not aware until then that anyone older than a baby could get croup. I guess it is more common than I thought!

My daughter is still down, going back to the Dr today. She has barely moved since Sunday and has eaten about 6 bites of food in that time. She will drink juice and gatorade, so at least she is staying hydrated. Now I feel like I am coming down with something. Yay. My husband got back from Kansas last night and will be here through New Years... at least now I can go out and finish the Christmas shopping!!!

We have another snow day today! We got another 7 inches of snow to make our total 14 for the week... so far! We are supposed to get more on Saturday. It will definitely be a white Christmas here!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!!! We are doing our baking today and tomorrow and then DH and I have an Ugly Christmas Sweater party to attend tomorrow night. Should be fun! I can't wait to see the look on his face when I show him what he is wearing!!!

I'm glad you still had a good time in Disney, despite your mother driving you crazy and your daughter being sick. I hope she's feeling better! Your daughter too, hmdavid.

I wish I were in WDW right now. I am currently snowbound, hoping my office will close early...

OK, so tomorrow is my 35th birthday (holy crap how did I get to be 35) anyway, and I'm thinking that a great birthday present would be 2009 NKOTB tour dates.........  :cheer2: :cheer2: :dance3:

Happy Birthday, Crystal!!!!! (a day early) :)

Happy Birthday (In Advance)

Tour dates are fine- just dont put them on Sale yet- I dont have all the $ I need saved up. LOL

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for US here. My brother is coming home from Basic Training (National Gaurd) and I have to pick him up from Airport- NONE of his friends or even his 2 little boys know -- it is going to be a GREAT surprise. Lots of tissues needed I am sure.

YAY....how exciting. My baby brother, 21, is coming home from South Carolina tomorrow. He is in the air force and this is the last time we are going to see him for 2 years. He signed up for combat photography and they are sending him to Iraq and Afhganistan for 2 years. So I know exactly how you are feeling. Tissues will be abundant here too! Enjoy him for the holidays.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!

Crystal -
What a GREAT Birthday present.

It is very exciting. I am way more excited about tomorrow than I am about Christmas.

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday!
