DH, DD and I went to Stone Mtn Park last weekend. Short story long, I grew up in Stone Mtn, have been there too many times to count and now live about an hour from there. We have wanted to camp there but have heard that the campground is kinda tight if you have a big camper (ours is 36 ft). So before we headed over to the Crossroads area for dinner and the laser show, we took a tour of the campground to see if we could get around with our camper. As we were driving around, we saw a camper in there with the Mickey lamp post. DH and I both said at the same time "MUST BE A DIS'ER!!". Haha. So....if you were there, speak up! :)
BTW - we decided that there is definitely enough room to get around in the area behind the registration area/pool with our camper. All of the other loops seemed to have concerningly tight turns. Can't wait to go!

We have been to Stone Mountain tons of times. Recently we were there for Easter Weekend and during the Christmas season. The sites around the pool are nice. They are bigger and have a gas grill and wood deck. The campground is a few miles from the mountain. There is a shuttle but it only runs a certain times of the year. Climbing the mountain (or taking the sky lift) and seeing the laser show is fun.

Why Stone Mountain in Oct? Just curious since the summer and Christmas are the more popular times of the year.

We have camped twice at Stone Mtn. I don't find the campground all that great but it is convenient to all the cool things to do there and in Atlanta as well. It is very tight in many loops. The area behind check in the pool was redone to make it Class A friendly, but there is very little shade and is more like an RV park than campground. All that said, we have had a great time both times. Enjoy.
