Hi all!
Sad situation for my cabin mate who will have to disembark in PV on only our third day of the cruise and fly to a business meeting. We are already pif, she definitely wants to do the three days and we can't reschedule to another time because we have other families on the cruise with us. So she is trying to make the best of the situation and enjoy what she can. She cleared this with DCL and it is noted on her reservation.

Question is: Have any of you had or heard of a similar experience? She was told she may incur fines from the Mexican gov for debarking early. Our itinerary is leaving from San Diego, making a few Mexican stops, PC, Cartegena, Caribbean and ending in Galveston. I've read conflicting posts on if this violates the PVS Act, and if it doesn't that there may still be fines. I'm so confused with all of this and am trying to just get an idea of what she might end up paying. TIA for any help!

And this is when trip cancellation insurance would have helped, shame.
I don't know how it works but if company pulled me from a scheduled vacation and there were costs associated with that job requirement I'd be certain they knew of the costs and seek repayment.
Hope the first three days are great ones.
Curious on these "fines" you mentioned.

If you are talking about the EBPC from San Diego to Galveston in October, the PIF date hasn't passed yet so a refund at this point should be possible. Does she really want to pay for a 14 days cruise and only be on the ship for 3 days? Seems like a huge waste of money that could be used for a future full length cruise. Do you have trip insurance? Trip insurance will often cover the single supplement fare that you would incur if she cancellened and you still wanted to go. Since it is before the paid in full date I don't think trip insurance if she had it would cover anything for her cruise (except maybe non refundable flights or hotels already booked) and I don't think trip insurance will help with any costs of debarking early since she knows about the situation in advance.

If she is dead set on doing this, she could try to call the customs office in Mexico, to see if they can give her an idea of what fines if any she may face if there are any. I don't really know if anyone else will be able to help you predict the cost of this situation, likely because it's extremely rare and because each situation would be different. If she has already cleared it with Disney then they must not be worried about the PVSA as I believe the fines for that are huge to the cruise line - but maybe they would be able to point her in the right direction to find the information she is looking for.

As the previous poster said she should try to seek reimbursement for any expenses she will incur from her place of employment if this has happened despite her having her vacation previously approved. It's possible however that they will deny because it isn't past the PIF date so she could really get a full refund at this point, but she is choosing to proceed anyway.

Good luck with this, I hope it does work out.

Interesting topic. Because some of the entertainment will hop on in one country/port and hop off on another. But maybe there are different rules for them?

We are already pif

Agree with Aby. The only cruises I can find with this itinerary are 10/19 and 28.

Cruises of 10 Nights or More and Cruises Less Than 10 Nights Where Embark and Debark is Non-U.S. Port (Excluding Suites and Concierge Staterooms)
Days Prior to Vacation Commencement Date Fee Amount
119-56 days Deposit per Guest
55-30 days 50% of vacation price per Guest
29-15 days 75% of vacation price per Guest
14 days or less 100% of vacation price per Guest
Suite and Concierge Staterooms: All Sailings
Days Prior to Vacation Commencement Date Fee Amount
90 days or more Deposit per Guest
89-56 days 50% of vacation price per Guest
55-30 days 75% of vacation price per Guest
29 days or less 100% of vacation price per Guest

So the most she's out right now is the deposit and that's if you're concierge. But she can *change* her reservation and move that deposit.

There's a difference between being paid in full, and having passed the paid in full date.

She has options still.

She is dead set on going lol, I tried to talk her out of it but she won't budge. Thank you for the advice on calling customs, I will let her know :)
