Disembark in Rome

What time realistically would we be off the ship at end of cruise? And has anyone booked transport from Rome port to a further city (looking to go to milan or venice and fly back from there). The company we use from FCO only does Rome area.

Pretty sure you'd need to take a train to one of those. Or fly from Rome to them.

They will probably have a last call for departure around 9:30. We're staying in Rome, and our AirBnB is letting us drop our luggage off at 11:30, but understandably, they won't let us do it before then. My plan is to stay on the boat until pretty close to last call.

Bear in mind Rome cruise port Civittavecchia is a long way from Rome. It took us over half an hour and included a train change. Trains were not equipped for people draggibg suitcases and the trainstation was another shuttleride from the cruise so if you have any port to door options and can afford those avoid the trains!

Yes thats why I am looking for door to door service I found some online that eeven include sightseeing stop but wanted to look for recommendations.

Venice is fascinating! I just got back. You can take a direct train leaving Rome at 1:30 (for example) and arriving at 5:30. But it depends on the time of year? All the major Italian cities are packed during the summer - over tourism.

I think you already have your solution! I bet the company who does FCO also does Civitavecchia! If you want to skip the commuter train from CV to Termini, have the company take you and drop you at Roma Termini to catch your train. It will be the fastest to get to any other city, and if you want to save money, you can buy your tickets in advance and give yourself enough time (that noon suggestion sounds good) to make that connection, or you could just buy the ticket for the next train when you arrive at termini.

we were supposed to be there for new years last month by my daughter got sick and we cancelled our entire italy trip

Sorry to hear that. January is a great time to be there. We had no rain. Lots of sunshine. A bit chilly but not too bad. Hardly any tourists! Hope you can get back there.

I'm glad you're researching this in advance. Several passengers on our cruise thought they'd just grab a cab when they left the ship, but CV is not like other cruise terminals. People were standing around looking like deer in the headlights, not knowing what to do. Fortunately our travel agent had pre-booked a cab for us so we weren't stranded.
