Hi All,

Going back to the world in just under 3 weeks. Thought for those about to go the Discovery Cove you might like to hear our impressions....

Not being teriffically into rides we did the Cove last October booking it 10 weeks or so before departure. On arrival you are given a Dolphin swim time. We got 12.30 which turned out to be a perfect time allowing us to explore the lagoon and practice with a snorkel. Very attractive feature. On arrival as you enter the Cove you get a complimentary tea/coffee and were put in groups to experience a tour. A nice touch is the complimentary photo of the family. I look at that daily and smile.. After your tour you are free to explore. Issued with life jackets, masks and snorkels(u get to keep the snorkel!). We did the lagoon in tropical temperature waters. Also got in a bit of sunbathing on the loungers in the crisp white sand.

Soon our time for ou dolphin experience came. We had an introduction to dolphins from the trainers, an opportunity to ask questions and then our turn in the water. Be warned! The water feels like ice when you enter (70degrees I think) and if you can't tread water properly it can be difficult. However, holding the dorsal fin being led around the water was magical. I would have gladly have given up Mickey - sorry Mickey, for this experience.

Following our swim we enjoyed a 3 course lunch discussing our fabulous experience. It did rain really heavily in the afternoon so for those who were due to swim I don't know what happened as all were called from the water. Unfortunately, the rain persisted so we cut our day short but I fully recommend this trip though souvenir photos of your experience are expensive.

Some day I would like to try this - thanks for posting!

Nice report ~ and I agree you should try to get the earliest swim you can as often it rains in the afternoon. When we went there was lightning and everyone had to get out of the water, I felt bad for those who's dolphin experience was interrupted and also those who's encounter was cancelled all together. :(

What Dolphin did you have your encounter with and how was your lunch?

We did the dolphin sim last summer. We had a swim at 12.20 and it was fab!!!

We id dDC back in 2001, and it was fabulous.!!!!!

We got a 10:05 swim which was perfect.

Our lunch was fabulous!
Salad, fajitas for DH , pesto chicken with pasta for me, and huge mango carrot cake for both of us! (we didnt share, but got the same thing!)

Plus I think we got lemonade.

It was wonderful, and it was the best thing we have ever done.

I just booked our Dolphin swim for next July 4th!! I can not wait to do this!!! It sounds like you had a wicked good time!

In reply;

Tyler was his name. Eight years old and boisterous. He bumped into me while swimming and nearly sent me toppling over! Quite funny really.

Food was good. We had salads, chicken, burgers, chips, gateauxs and cheesecake. Plenty of ice cold non alcoholic drink to wash it down.

Truly worth the day spent there.

Have a wonderful time - all of you.:earsboy:
