Hi

Was just wondering if anyone had done this package yet? is it worth the upgrade?

thanks

I have been to Discovery Cove five times now and four times I did the Trainer for a Day. I love it and cannot imagine going to Discovery Cove and not doing Trainer for a Day. I think it is definitely worth it. However, your time is really not your own when you do this. There is loads going on all day. On our first visit we just did the dolphin swim and I think it was the right decision. We could fully enjoy all the facilities in the park in a relaxed manner. With Trainer for a Day you usually have a 30 to 45 minute break after lunch to do as you please and about 90 minutes at the end of the day.

Check in is by 8:30 the latest and then you are met by the trainers that look after the group that day and split into groups. There is then a quick introduction to the park and a complimentary photo is taken on the way to the restaurant. Then it is breakfast time and a chance to get to know the rest of the group. From there it is on to check out the lockers and put on the wet suit or vest. Every time I have done it, we have done this, we headed to the aviary first and usually got there ahead of official opening. This means that you have suddenly loads of new bests friends as you are the first people to feed the birds. Then it was on to the water quality tour followed by a small mammal/bird interaction either behind the scenes or on a private part of the beach. Last time we got to meet a sloth, an anteater, a tortoise, an armadillo and an owl. After this we had a few minutes to go to the restroom and to get a bottle of water. Then we had to go to the orientation for the dolphin swim, followed by the dolphin swim and a photo session with one of the dolphins. After that we had a look at the dolphin back areas, the fish house, the medical pool and we got to see some of the calves. After this it as off to lunch and then we had about 30 minutes break before we met again by the ray lagoon where we fed the rays. From there it was behind the scenes to touch one of the sharks and a general talk about the sharks and the training they do with them. Then we fed the fish in the coral reef followed by some snorkeling in the reef. We managed to fit in a quick lap round the river before we had to be back at the beach for the enhanced dolphin interaction. This was followed by another photo opportunity, this time with two dolphins and then we were released. We headed straight back to the aviary, which is second in my affections only to the dolphin lagoon. At closing time we got showered and changed and picked up the photos. We do love it, but it is very intense and we are tired at the end if the day.

That it is. In November 2006 I was the only Trainer for a Day. Talk about VIP treatment!
