We are looking into our first visit to DC next summer and were wondering about pictures in the park.

Are you able to take your own waterproof camera on the dophin swim?
Can you preorder their cd and photos?

Thanks for helping us out.

You cannot take your own waterproof camera with you on the dolphin swim.

The only way (that I know of) to preorder the photo package that comes with the CD of your pictures is to reserve the Elite Package (at a cost of $359 in addition to your DC admission) which would include a private cabana rental, the "ultimate photo package", and an assortment of other items:

Remember that you can purchase your photo package the day of your visit, rather then preorder. If you do, you can drop down from the Ultimate package (which is the one included in the Elite pkg shown in the link above, and is valued at about $219 I think) to the smaller picture package which is priced lower but still includes the CD of all photos taken during the day of your visit.

ok. that's very helpful info.
we have lots of questions as we think about planning that I'm sure I'll end up posting in a new thread - after I finish reading back through the pages of this forum for as much info as I can gather
on a side note, I know your photos got jinxed but are your previous trip reports still up? I'd like to read them if they are...

Just my Christmas 2012 trip report is still active. Its the one you can access via the link in my signature.

If there's anything specific you want to know, feel free to ask away on this board or send me a PM. I am happy to help in any way I can :thumbsup2 .

We got the photo package without the DVD. It cost $169.34 inc tax. I had bought a digipac waterproof case for my own camera. I used this everywhere in the park except the dolphin swim where everyone was instructed to go and put cameras in a locker. They said it was for the safety of the camera and the dolphin. They weren't at all concerned about people wearing sunglasses. My camera was really secure on a close fitting lanyard and for all but that 1 min 'swim' you were in shallow water. I would have liked to have been able to take some candid photos of my family rather than the posed shots they took. We took lots of photos elsewhere with my own camera.

we are planning a trip for DD 7th bday in mar, i too am interested in the photo cd aspect,so you ordered day of your trip for $169, did they not take lots of candid shots?? i assumed they took some posed & lots of candid ones for the dolphin swim pictures

If you go on the Discovery Cove website, it tells you the photo packages and the price but I think you have to call direct to them and ask to pre-order. I booked the Elite package so was included in the price. Anywhere you go to swim/interact with dolphins (and trust me, some are better than others!), they take posed pics.. usually of you kissing a dolphin and doing tricks with a dolphin. Seaworld used to have a dolphin interaction programme (not sure if they still do) and you were just knelt down on a ledge in about 2 ft of water so it looked like you were swimming with them when the pics came out. I've done interactions at various places though and some have been AMAZING!! :)
