Last July, we were on vacation when Discover was doing their 5% Cashback on theme parks... however, we didn't get that 5% cashback...

SSR charges were all allotted under "Services" instead of "Theme Parks." We also charged to our Discover through our room key, so meals & souvenirs were hooked up with that too.

This year, we paid a deposit with Discover, and I noticed the reservation center is put under the "Services" category as well.

Discover is offering 5% cash back on theme park purchases for July thru Sept this year, which should be cool since we'll be vacationing at our favorite theme parks in July & Sept. But will anything we buy in WDW actually come under the "Theme Park" category on Discover so we can get that 5% cash back bonus on those purchases?

Did you call them and ask them to re-categorize? It's worth a shot!

I would carry my credit card separately and try paying for individual purchases in the park with it.

That's what I'm wondering will work... though restaurants will probably end up in a "Restaurant" category instead of theme parks!

But, it's worth a shot for any gift shops and such!

I was wondering if anyone uses a Discover card at Disney and noticed the same thing...

The 5% for July -Sept should be for:
Gas Stations
Hotels
Theme Parks
Zoos
Bookstores

So as long as you are staying at a Disney resort, you should be fine either way. We got the hotel credit in March this year when we made a large payment on our Disney trip even though the statement said Disney Reservations and listed the category as Services. The category listed on your statement is a more generic category than the what Discover truly has each 'store' labeled as. Keep in mind though there is usually a cap on the bonus. Jan-March's cap was $800 (So $40 was the max cashback credit), April - June was $400 and June's Restaurant bonus is only $200. We're going in Sept so hopefully we'll be able to take advantage of the same hotel credit as well as the theme park. We each have our own Discover, so whatever the cap is, we should be able to double it again.

Thanks for the clarification...

Yeah, that June cap of $200 in restaurants is super low!

Seeing how fast gas prices are rising again, we'll probably end up reaching our cap with just that!

I just went and checked my statements and the Vero Beach resort came up as Services and also in January I had made a purchase at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and it too came up as Services. Weird.
