Discount Room Rates on Day of Arrival - No Reservation

If I were to just show up at a resort (I'm thinking deluxe here but any more expensive one would fit the question) with no reservation or with a reservation at a mod or value and asked to switch, do you think Disney would give a discounted rate if there was an available room? I mean the room would be empty and not generating any income if they left it unbooked and I went off property or downgraded and in the other senario while they would lose on the mod or value, they would be getting more from the deluxe.

I am not asking for anything for free just wondering if they would do like a upsell price or a AAA discount without the AAA or value season price in non-value season.

Make sense?

I've never heard anyone on this board mention that working for them.

I haven't either, just something I was thinking about this morning. Maybe I have too much time on my hands. But it made sense to me...why leave a room empty when you can book it even if it is at a cheaper rate?

We tried to do this over the phone (had a ressie at the Pop) and decided that we'd spend the extra $$$ even for the quick trip and stay at our fave (WL).

Didn't work.... they wanted to charge us for the 1 night at the Pop as it was past the canellation period plus the cost of the WL :sad2:

We stayed at the Pop

I thought that I've read somewhere a while ago that there is some sort of rest stop in Orlando that you can stop at and book last minute rooms at a deep discount. Sorry I don't have more information.

this worked for me. I went to clearwater two years ago and got a serious disney jones going on. I packed up everyone and just headed to the CBR, I checked in ...no ressies and got an AP discount, and I did not even renew it as of yet. They just had me go renew when I go tht e chance. This was in May also. So I think if they have the space you should be fine. There is always last minute cancels to.

I also wanted to add, that several times while down in Disney. I have changed my mind about a resort or wanted to extend my stay in a different resort. I did the samething, I have gone to the resort and asked for a ressie with an AP discount and have gotten it. I was there one time for 1 month, so I got board at one resort...I ended up doing 4 different ones.

The flip side is if you are standing in front of them with no place to go why should they discount a room?

While it never hurts to ask I think it's a crap shoot.

I have seen this tactic work when asking for an upgrade when you are already booked at a resort, but never with a new booking. Oftentimes if you are booked in a standard room, if you ask about an upgrade to a better view/concierge they will give it to you for a discounted price.

I don't think there would be nowhere go to. Aren't there like millions of hotels in the Disney area? Not to mention thousands of rooms in their mods and values.

I wouldn't do it if I had my heart set on certain resort or during a time like Christmas when the hotels/resorts are fuller.

We did it.....not intentionally, but we walked up and received a discounted rate at the CR in the tower several years ago.

We had already spent a week in the CR tower, gone to Vero for a few days and were heading home and decided to detour to the CR for a couple more nights.;) We were shocked at the great rate we were quoted compared to the rate we paid for the week.

You never know, but then again it seems bookings are up for the hotels and you might be SOL.:confused3

Years ago I read in the UG that there is some rest stop off of I-75 in Ocala that you could sometimes get discounted WDW rooms at. I don't know if that is still the case.

We're currently booked for Pop our last night (decided at the last minute that 6 nights just wasn't enough!). When I get there it will be 7 days before my ressie, meaning I'm still inside the cancellation window - and I'm going to try to upgrade to something else. Not that I would mind staying at the Pop, it just seems like after 6 nights at WL, we'll be spoiled.

Unfortunately the Disney Welcome Center in Ocala had closed. I had also read that sometimes if you stopped by you might get lucky and get a special last minute rate. I'm bummed that they closed:guilty:

Let me give you a specific example of why I ask

We are booked for CBR. I've always wanted to stay at Poly. My DH is so sick of hearing it he said to book it already. I just can't get over the $1,500 price difference. So I was wondering if they had an empty room would they give me a discount like down to $1,000 or less difference. (Don't ask why the $500 matter to me because I don't know.) I can't see having to pay for CBR because I didn't cancel in time because Disney is getting my money anyway, more of it, and what's the difference if a deluxe or mod room sits empty?
