Hi! We have a trip booked in January - February but with the new discounts that came out this morning we might switch it to another resort. Can we book during the same period for the same people at two different resorts and then cancel one in the next day or two? Or will Disney not let you have the two hotel bookings at the same time? We already have our dining reservations made and tied to our original reservation so we don't want to lose those.

You can put the room under the other person in your party at the other hotel, but I believe the Disney system won't let you have multiple separate reservations under the same name.

I have two reservations under my name for the same dates.... actually same hotel too

That's good to know, as I've heard it doesn't work in different resorts - the fact that they're in the same hotel might be what made it work for you?

You can book a new reservation for the exact same time with the exact same people then go back and cancel the one you don't want. I did it this morning - booked the exact same reservation I already had but with the discount, then went back and canceled my original reservation.

You can often just 'change' the offer or call Disney and they can do it to work within the same shell. Then you don't have to worry about dining being cancelled or having to pay a second deposit and wait for a refund etc. It is nice to just have it in the same one.

thank you!

If you know you want to switch resorts, you can simply go online or call and modify the reservation you have. You can also make a new reservation and cancel the original if you’d like. No matter what you do, your dining reservations will not be affected.

I double book alot. The only problem is the WAITING for the refund/deposit to come through on the credit card. I have to remind myself to check every day.

I have double booked same people, same dates at different resorts in order to get an AP discount with no problem. Sometimes this is easier than trying to modify your existing reservation to obtain the discount, which I have also done. Use whichever methodology works for you, the reservation system is always very glitchy when discounts drop, keep trying all angles until you succeed.

I’ve doubled booked for the same people, dates, etc with no problem. Sometimes when I make a reservation, I’m not sure where we want to stay. I also sometimes end up with overlapping reservations because I need to make a reservation before Southwest has their flight schedule available.

Just change the reservation. No need to book and then cancel. You can do it online

You can double book, but it easy to change online. Just look at your plans and click on 'change reservation'. (Unless, of course, the website is acting wonky. Then you might have to double book and cancel one).
If you are American, there is one problem with that - you are holding up a reservation that someone else may be anxiously looking for. If you are from outside the USA, you also have exchange rates and Credit card fees to pay every time that you cancel.

I’m constantly changing my mind about where I want to stay and how I want to arrange my split stays, so I double book all the time. I’ve even triple booked. If I see Discount availability, then I grab it and figure things out later. Sometimes I have both a Moderate and a Deluxe booked for the same days (both under my name, as I’m almost always solo) while I decide if I want to pay the extra cost. I always cancel a reservation as soon as I make a decision. As others have said, the only bad thing is waiting for the refund to go back on my credit card. But I use an interest free card, so charging and refunding multiple times doesn’t hurt me.

I have a 10 day Thanksgiving stay coming up and I currently have 3 nights BRV, 2 AKL, and 5 POFQ booked. But I’ve also booked and cancelled 5 nights POR, 5 AKL, 5 SSR, 3 AKL, 2 CSR, and 5 different nights AKL. So I’ve booked 9 different reservations and cancelled 6 of them. I didn’t hold them all at the same time, but there was definitely overlap. There was never any system error or block by Disney and MDE would show me checking into or out of multiple Resorts on the same day. I also check availability every day, sometimes more than once, to see if anything else opens up. So I may not be done. :rotfl:
