DISCON Pricing

I would like to make a "nice" suggestion. I realize that people will come on the board and say "DISCON costs too much!" Can we just ignore that whole concept and not respond to those posts? Last year some people acted like Pete should be doing this as a charity event. Personally I hope he makes some money this year since he lost last year and if he continues to lose money he won't keep doing DISCON. He is running a business! (and I get A LOT of FREE entertainment from these boards!)

Marsha feel free to remove this thread if it is out of line, but it kind of bugs me when people show up and start complaining that Pete is not giving DISCON, boards etc away. I have used other boards that have started charging and in most cases I have left. Now I would pay for this board if it came to it, but I like the idea of buying stuff from Pete better!! ! LOL

I agree.

I think what alot of people don't understand is the amount of time and effort that goes into something like this and they try to price the individual events. It just doesn't work like that.

DISCON 1 was well worth the $229 I paid and I fully expect the DISCON 2 will be worth it as well.

I agree. The price last year (IMHO) was reasonable. The events were great and the exclusive things that we had access to were wonderful. Illuminations was priceless and the pictures we had taken are prominently displayed.

So in advance, thank you to everyone who helps organize the event. We appreciate all the hard work that goes into this.

Honestly, I thought that the fee last year for DIS Con was
quite reasonable. There is no other way that I would have experienced some of those events (much less gotten to meet so many terrific people). It was all delightful.

The price this year (as posted so far) seems reasonable as well,
especially when you factor in the amount of $$ many of us will save with the special DIS Con room rate.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth too!

Well said all, and thank you. I know only a small portion of the negotiating that Pete has done and is continuing to do to make this another fabulous event and to get you the best price!

I don't know of anyone who paid the money and attended the events last year, that didn't think that it was money well spent. I know I thought it was worth every penny, from the ToT (or the "revenge of Gary" as we like to remember it) , to the Fantasmic Dessert Party, the Character Breakfast, the wonderful mini-meets, the Illuminations Dessert Party, but most of all to really meet and get to know so many DISers that I only knew by name. That in itself made it priceless.

Well, I'm "NOT" getting off my super-reinforced soapbox...lol...WebmasterCathyCanada.

From the very first day that I had the awesome pleasure to have dinner with about 20 DISers that I had never met at an unofficial DIS meet at the Wilderness Lodge Resort's Whispering Cafe....To the official Opening Reception where we got to meet everyone, to eat and drink and chat and to introduce ourselves and to hug and to laugh and smile so much that it almost hurt.

And the great Character breakfast with all those photos.

And more and more great unofficial DIS-meets from Barry Hom's and Patrick IL's and Briscully's thrill rides...to luvdsny's Fantasyland meet where I could feel like a kid again and ride the Carasel and Dumbo and so many oter things.

And the incredible official MGM Dessert Party inside the Fantasmic show.

And the incredible official, after hour private use of the Tower of Terror that was given to us by Mr. Walt Disney (I mean Mr. Pete Werner) himself. Yes he paid for this by himself as something extra for all of us DISes.

The wonderful official dinner at our choice of EPCOT's restaurants, followed by the great officia and private use of EPCOT's French Island for a dessert party and to watch Illuminations.

To so many other unofficial DIS-meets.

But most important was to meet fellow DISers that all have something in common. A very big heart. A kindness and friendlyness and caring that you jst can't find in many places. Oh, yea...and we are all Disney nuts...ll.

So do I appreciate that someone like Mr. Walt Disney (I mean Mr. Pete Werner) builds a wonderful, free website for all of us to come together and enjoy each other and Disney stuff? You bet that I do.

And do I appreciate all the planning and arranging and implementing these exciting, fun filled DIS CONventions? I positively, absolutely do.

I also appreciate everyone that keeps these DIS boards going like Pete and all of his staff and designers and webmasters and moderators that all give up their own time and energy to make this such a neat place.

Hey everyone, you know I agree with you. And I don't want to be the odd man out on this one...but I just want to propose another scenerio.

We have to remember that this is a 'discussion board' and that some people may come here to 'think out loud' and sometimes the thoughts might not be completely 'positive', but maybe the person is just looking for some feedback/advice/suggestions/etc. Well maybe.

I hope I worded this okay. I don't want to stir anything up. Don't flame me, I'm too tired. I just wanted to shine a light on the other side a tad. Thanks for listening.

The rest of you guys.. I am counting the days till December, DisCon last year was wonderful.. it may not be exactly the same this year, it is always hard to top perfection, but bringing us all together in the place we love the best is truly special.. Hugs everyone..

I was new to the boards when it was time to register for DISCON1 so I didnt attend, but by the time the event was held I missed my new friends so much, these boards were not the same without them!!

The cost this time is excellent, afterall you cant put a cost on fun!

Im so excited about this, I can not put into words how much. I made so many GREAT friends for life here, friends who dont let an ocean get in the way of friendship. I thank you all.

I felt the price of DIS-CON was very fair, and definitely affordable for most singles or couples. However, I was at WDW with my husband and 3 kids, and opted NOT to spend over $1100 for all of us to be part of the convention - so I was the only attendee. I spent the days with my family, and the evenings with my DIS friends.

I'll be solo for DIS-CON 2 - and the price of ~$210 sounds reasonable for the things included. Once the details are a bit more finalized - I will happily register.
