Here is my latest. Drew has been asking for this since I mentioned that I might do it (probably last summer) so I rushed through it. I am not crazy about it and I think I learned something important about myself....... I don't enjoy appliqeing. It's just not fun for me. I'm sticking to construction from now on.

I think you're being too hard on yourself. It looks GREAT!

Thanks! She is excited because when we scratch her back it will be really easy! She loves to have her back scratched "open" right on the skin.

I used the flower shaped yo-yo maker for the flowers. I'll probably have to handwash this one, or replace the yo-yo's a lot.

What is the yo-yo maker? Never heard of it. Those flowers are really cute!

Weight Watchers.....I'm in!!! I'm actually sitting here contemplating ordering the 3 months of weight watchers online. Does anyone use that or do you all go to meetings?? I've got about 100 lbs to lose. :( Seems with each pregnancy I just keep putting on the weight and never losing any. But I'm determined to do something about it and keep to it this time.
I signed up for the monthly pass online for $39, or something like that. Then, I can go to meetings, too. I haven't made it to a meeting yet, though.

As for WW, I did the "in-person" version and was very successful. My local WW had a "wee ones welcome" meeting where you could bring kids. It was a little loud, but at least I got to go. Years later after regaining weight I tried the online version and I sort of dropped off after a few weeks. I think I need the human interaction to force my accountability. Posting on here should help. I'm going to start out on my own right now and if it doesn't work, I'll need to get back to WW meetings!
I always do better when I go to meetings, too.

To explain the Styrofoam "cake". In bakeries when they put a cake on display the inside is styrofoam usually wrapped in plastic wrap. This makes a cake form that can be decorated like a real cake without the inside going bad. The icing is real and the airbrushing on it is real too. The Western cake was on display for about two weeks until someone throw a huge peice of concrete through the huge front window of the bakery.
:rotfl: We know why you made a styrafoam cake. We were just joking! Teresa has a terrible fear of styrafoam.

I LOVE this cake!!!! It's absolutely adorable!! I really have to try fondant! I could post a picture of my favorite cake I've made, but it doesn't hold up to the ones you two have posted today!!

I remember when I was about 8 or 9 my mom took a class to learn to decorate cakes. For the final, they had to bring in a "cake" they'd decorated all on their own. With 5 kids, you can imagine she did most of the work at night so imagine our excitement the morning we saw that beautiful cake thinking we'd get to eat it after the class... and then our utter disappointment when she told us it was done on styrofoam!!! We felt betrayed and appalled that she's waist such good frosting on something we wouldn't be able to eat.

BTW - Anyone watch Ace of Cakes on The Food Network? I love seeing their creations. It makes me so tempted to try making some fondant to experiment with.
Oh my gosh, what a funny story! :rotfl: I like Ace of Cakes! They make some amazing cakes on there. I can't figure out how they cut the cakes up without them falling apart. It seems like they'd have to be really dry to do that!

That is so cute! It looks like the same bear pan Teresa used to make my baby shower cake. It turned out so cute!!

I love them! Yup, I'm definitely going to make myself a pair!

Even better up close. I love the Mickey heads!

I need potty training pixie dust! We started yesterday going cold-turkey on the diapers (except for naps and bedtime). We have had NO successes! She has pooped in her pants twice and peeped at least 8 times in her pants. Please don't tell me she is not old enough - she is 2 3/4!

This is just so frustrating for me. I am trying to keep my cool but I am tired of washing out panties all day. I am trying to have her sit on the potty every 30 minutes (the timer is set) but that is not working either. She just goes a few mintues after we get up.
 for you and some :wizard: for you both.

I'm not sure how much I'll get on today - we leave for WDW in the morning!! Whoohoo!! Anyway, I wanted to thank everyone for all of the inspiration, encouragement and friendship along the way! Thanks for talking me through the basics of sewing, appliqueing and teaching me that the seam ripper is my friend!! If it weren't for the Dis this vacation would be a whole lot different and I am sooo happy I found you all! Thanks everyone, you guys are awesome!
You're pretty awesome yourself, Leslie. Have a great vacation!!!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS!!!! It's SOOOOOOOO cute!!!

I need to join the weight watching party. I have never had a problem with my weight, but at my last doctor's appointment I realized I have gained 10 pounds in a year! I need to lose at least five so I can get back into my summer shorts again. I think I am going to try to cut out junk and alcohol first. I am not a big drinker, but we have been hanging with a couple and I have been having a few drinks each night we go out.
I suppose we could let you join. But, we did just see the pictures of you looking great. You are thinner than I will ever dream of being!!

Is the hill an applique, or did you cut the top part on a curve and sew the green fabric onto the bottom? I'm thinkin' I may have to CASE this!

I know that you don't want to hear it, but she isn't ready. My youngest son is now 5 yrs 3 months and we still have issues at night and naps. He got the day thing down around 3 1/2 years. He had scarlet fever about 3 weeks ago and his hiney area was so raging hot with the rash that we could not put pull ups on him. We have limited his evening liquid intake to under 4 ounces after 6 PM, and we set the alarm to get him up a couple of times each night. Even with everything we've done he still has accidents. We are 3 weeks into this and I am ready to throw in the towel. Getting up several times each night has been hard on all 3 of us. He is so upset each time he wets, but has no control. He doesn't even wake up. As an example: this morning dh got him up at 6:30 AM to go. He said he was tired and wanted to go back to sleep (I believe him because we had already had him up twice before  ) So he peed and fell back asleep. 8:48 AM he comes out soaked. That was just over 2 hours and he had only drank a couple of ounces at his 6:30 potty break :confused3 I washed his bedding and remade the bed. He was given a nap today as my nephew was here and they were misbehaving. He slept for less than 2 hours and was wet again. I made sure he went seconds before laying down. so the beddiing is in the wash again. It is so frustrating. He really wants to be successful and has a Nintindo DS sitting on the shelf waiting for him to be dry for a month. At this rate it will be so old that we won't be able to buy games for it. He obviously isn't physically able to do it yet and our pediatrician isn't concerned. He's never seen a kids go to college in diapers.

That looks wonderful. You may not like to applique, but you are very good at it.

I just put the hill on top of the pink. They both go all the way to the bottom. I basted it there before I sewed the side seams and then after it was all together I appliqued the top edge.

Revrob asked how to make the yo-yo's. They sell plastic things that you sew around. They are just called yo-yo makers. This is the large flower. They come in circles and hearts too. I have seen them at Hancock, but I bought mine at my little quilt shop in town. It makes them super easy to make! Just buy some heavy duty thread. I just bought a tan/off white color and I use it for everything.

Thanks everyone for your kind words about my circus freak Hello Kitty!

FYI - I copied the shape and basic idea off of a giant Hello Kitty card that Drew got from a friend for her birthday a couple of weeks back. (I don't know why people spend $3.99 on cards for kids!) I just traced right over it.

I hear those stories all the time and want to scream. She showed all the signs of being ready - telling me when her diaper was wet/dirty, putting her dollies on the potty to go. Now she won't tell me when her pants are soaking.:confused3

I feel like a failure as a mother if I am unable to train her in this. She is signed up for preschool but cannot go until she is trained.

Don't be so hard on yourself! It isn't your fault or hers! She just isn't able to tell you when she has to go! My daughter showed all signs of being ready, she would even go to the potty every now and then, but was still wetting her diaper most of the time! I just kept waiting and one day she was ready! I wouldn't push her, that is just too hard on her and you! Most of the kids I know were at least 3 some were 4 before they were ready!

Mindy - I mailed your tee earlier this week. Send me a pm so I know you got it. I hope to be able to catch up on the thread when we get back but you guys are so chatty I shutter to think of how many pages I'll need to read! There will probably be a new thread started by then!!
Thank you again! I can't wait to get it! My DD4 is soooo excited! My husband even really liked it! Great job!

I LOVE:love: this! I think it looks fantastic!

My3Princes - have you tried a bedwetting alarm? My DS had bedwetting issues until he was about 7 1/2. We tried everything you mentioned. We had him put on medication, and that would work until his body adjusted to the medicine, then we'd have the same problem again. We bought a bedwetting alarm online. We were skeptical, but desperate. IT WORKED! The first night, it woke him up, he got up and went to the restroom. He wore it for several nights following, and he was dry. I have no idea how it works (the idea is that it is supposed to teach them what the sensation feels like when they're asleep). I swear by those things now. It is the ONLY thing that worked for us. I wish we would have purchased one much sooner.

So sorry you are frustrated on the potty training. Maybe she isn't quite ready yet? Maybe take a little break and then try again? My dd did not potty train until she was 3 1/2. While I would have loved for her to potty trained earlier, she just wasn't ready and I didn't want to get upset when she peed or pooped her pants, so I decided to just let her take the lead. Finally, at 3 1/2, she showed sign of interest, and one morning asked to use her little potty...she had lots of accident that day but has done really well ever since with the very occasional accidents.

My son is 2 1/2 and will be 3 in June, and I just registered him for preschool and they have to be potty trained by then, so I might have to take a different potty training approach with him...so we will see how that goes.

Here's some pixie dust pixiedust: but I hate to tell you the truth... you'll have to wait till she is 3 or so. :rolleyes1 Just sayin my opinion is all..... I've done the "no training" method successfully 4 times!

I agree with this. I like the let them do it themselves method too. You may end up in diapers for a couple of extra months, but it saves soooooo much agravation.

My SIL is currently trying that with their 5 1/2 year old. so far no success. We will try it when they are done with it. Thanks for the suggestion.

This is beautiful. Great job on the applique even though you don't like doing them.

We were afraid that DD wasn't going to be potty trained in time for pre-K but about two weeks before she was supposed to start she finally stayed dry all day. That was right after her 4th birthday. We were about to take her off the pre-K register. Don't give up she will do it when she is ready.

Where did you get the bed wetting alarm? I have a cousin who is 13 :scared1: and still wets the bed. Every morning when she wakes up she has a soaked pull up. My aunt said she is about to have to start buying her adult diapers. For some reason when she sleeps she still can't control her bladder. That alarm might work for her.

Does anyone make customs for others? We are going in March and I decided I better get some for my daughter since she'll outgrow them soon....
I have ideas I've seen and just need to find someone to make them.

Thanks-
Heather
