This is my second attempt at this top. The first one was way too small for me so UpDisney's daughter's will benefit from that. The second attempt fits, but I am not impressed with the way it fits. I will try it with a cami underneath and see if I like that better if not Vicki's daughter's will get a second top :rotfl:

th_SewingProjects009.jpg

I just bought this pattern, so it does not fit well? Did you cut out your usual size and it seems a bit tight? I was worried that it might be too low because there is no opening in the back. It looks cute anyway.

I just read on the creative board that they are going to lock all thread at 250 pages. They are going to bring back old threads, but break them up into 250 page increments, so I wouldn't expect our thread any time soon.

Well, I'm almost done with the shirt. I have to finish the areas where I ran the elastic and hem it. I'm not too sure what I think of it. I think the color is too pale for me. I'm proud of myself for getting this far on it and not giving up. It will be the first time I have ever sewn anything totally without assistance. I did ask my husband to verify I was laying the material out right before I cut it out but that was it. He is the sewer in the house.

OMG!! You look great!!! You did an awesome job!!

I finished a couple things this weekend.

Here is Blue Belle with little chip.

I also got a little treat from :wizard: this week. Check out the Belle Bling!!!!

It goes with this.

Finally I cannot remember if I posted the improved Nemo Dresses. These were the first thing I ever made. I had to adjust the babes because it was too long.

I cannot wait until my girls can see all this! It is killing me!!!!

I love your outfit - you are SO talented!! Where did you get that Chesire fabric!! They are going to love those outfits!

It would be easy to add a bling heart to a white tee if you can't find one. you just iron on the bling! That would be cute. What about making the I heart Troy on an iron on, and then outline the heart in bling?

I like the idea of the iron on bling. I may have to go to JoAnn's and see what they have! Thanks!

I love the color combination on this outfit and the style would be perfect for my soon to be 7 yr old. (how did that happen?). What pattern did you use? Do you think it would be difficult though to make it with nontie straps that are 1" wide?
Great job, also where did you get the fabric?

Well I think I cought the sewing bug..because my house is quiet, all are sleeping (even the dog) and i whipped up this little number. I dont know if I should hide it way and give to Georgia on her birthday Thursday, or see if she wants to wear it tomorrow for school... I keep thinking how cute it will look over jeans with a shirt under it.

Ok, I just looked at the link you posted earlier. I think you may have cut your fabric the wrong way, Did you cut from selvedge (finished, uncut edge of fabric)to selvege edge? If you did, that's good, that's how you are suppose to do it. You should have cut two strips "x" width and then sewn them together. You sould have fabric left over from a yard of fabric that way.

Are you using a long basting stitch to do your gathers? I like to zigzag over some cording to make gathers, or use my ruffler foot. There are some tips in the bookmarks for making gathers, just search for gathering. I always do the gathering stitch, then pin it together, then adjust the gathers.

But, this really is very cute, and you should be proud of yourself!!! I can see that your neice is very happy with it too!

So are you saying that for instance on the bottom tier when I was supposed to have 120 inches or something like that, I should have cut a strip as long as I could then sewed another strip to it so I would get my 120 inch wide strip?

And this is pretty sad, but I don't really know what a basting stitch is. I'll have to google that later. I put it on a straight stitch and set it on the biggest length. All I know on my sewing machine is straight looking stitch and zig zag stitch.

Thank you so much for helping me!!! :flower3:

Funny you would mention this! I have been working on finding the old posts, and started putting them on a blog! I've only tracked down a few so far though. The blog is here if anyone wants to check it out: http://disboutique.blogspot.com/ I haven't gotten very far though, as you can see!
I'll link to it from the bookmarks too.
Most of the bookmarks aren't on the Dis, so I don't know that I'll add them to it. And, the pictures are all on a Photobucket account,so we have all those.

ETA: The blog is NOT to replace this thread, I was just putting the posts that I would usually bookmark from THIS thread in the blog, in case this thread gets "hidden" like the last one. Please don't post on the blog.

Teresa, Thank you for doing this. It will be helpful if we can locate all the useful tutorials from the old thread and archive them on this blog.

Well there ya have it folks! The GIANTS WON!!

I can't believe The Pats, walking off the field before the game was completely over. I dont know but that shows no class.
I just have to add one thing, we were watching the game and it truly looked like the game was over and than they added one second to the clock. I think it was more confusion than anything that caused the Pats to be slow coming back on the field for the last play. It does not excuse Belachick leaving the field though.

I am way behind on the thread, but I just have to say that this is FAB-U-LOS!! The colors of that fabric are so pretty and some of my favorites. It's so, so pretty on Tessa. Great work Heather!!

I haven't caught up on the last day and a half, but here's what I was working on yesterday. A gigantic Ariel head dress! The 3rd picture is our Michigan version of a sundress and the 4th picture is Tessa boxing. As we all know, Ariel is quite the boxer. :confused3

This went pretty fast, but I'm not real happy with the way it fits her. I shirred it in the back, but it's still too loose. The fabric is sparkly variegated colors with gold hearts.

Leslie - all your outfits are darling! You must be getting so anxious for your trip!

Earlier today I told DH that I was almost out of fabric and that I needed a new pattern to sew with. Well guess what he let me get.....
CIMG0535.jpg

All of this. Some of it was on sale.

WooHoo! DD picked out that easter egg fabric for her easter dress. She wants a patchwork twirl jumper and peasant top.

Yup, you're on the right track. :) Just sew the two strips together to get your 120 inches. It will end up being super long! I used that same pattern for my 8 year old's skirt. My bottom tier was 240 inches!!!! But it's super full and twirly. :) And you did the right thing for a basting stitch. It's just a straight stitch set to the longest length. Just make sure not to tie off your beginning thread or the end thread so that you can gather it. Keep at it! Your doing a great job.

So are you saying that for instance on the bottom tier when I was supposed to have 120 inches or something like that, I should have cut a strip as long as I could then sewed another strip to it so I would get my 120 inch wide strip?

The cart covers are SOOOO cool!!! I didn't know you could buy patterns for them...I bought one for my daughter a few months ago for $60...dang! Great job!!:woohoo:

The instructions I got for $4 on ebay - I saw one of McCalls, but they were flat, not the "fluffy kind".

The one's with $1 fabric cost me about $12 to make (fabric, thread to match, batting, elastic, matching bias tape - extra double wide). And the $2 Fabric one's cost about $15 to make. SO, I made for for less than the cost of one.

If anyone wants to know who I got the instructions from I'll let you know. . .

I did make some changes though, to make it easier for me.

I was SOOOO sad when I thought our thread had disappeared :guilty: I know I am mostly a lurker. I mean let's face it, I don't really know how to sew so I can't offer much advice on anything other than dog training which is way off topic :lmao: but it was ALL of you that inspired me to learn how to sew! DH did buy me a Disney Brother SE270D which has been sitting on my dining room table taunting me and daring me to learn how to use it  I am scared of it and the manual doesn't help matters  So, when I thought our thread and all of you were gone I panicked :scared1: and I was moping around thinking , now what am I gonna do :confused3 Oh I am so happy I found everyone again :grouphug: All righty then...I am going to go initiate another staring contest with my machine :3dglasses I am going to learn this blasted thing today :teacher: and I am only stopping for the most important thing on tv later...COMMERCIALS :happytv:

Terrie
I remember you!! I'm glad you found us again! Tessa was riding the penny horse at Meijer yesterday and she decided to name it Calypso (I have no idea where she came up with that). I thought of you!

I LOVE it and so does Tessa! She is a butterfly nut! So...how's that laundry coming? :rotfl2:

Oh man, I thought I was going crazy trying to find the old thread. I'm so glad I found this one but with over 120 pages, I'm going to have to accept that I'll never get caught up. Hopefully people will remember me since I feel I was gone so long! I needed to get back here because it's official - we're going to Disneyland in May. We don't have the specific dates or reservations yet but both sisters & brothers-in-law plus a few of their adult kids have committed to the trip. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to make all new outfits for Zoe or just have her wear the ones she has. So far she hasn't been to Disney in any of them but it's so tempting to make all new. I guess a lot will depend on how much time I find to sew for her.
YAY! I'm glad you found us!

OOOOH! I love love love it! Those colors are great for her, too. Beautiful job! A-lines are such a nice break from ruffly twirl skirts, aren't they? Thanks so much for sharing!
They are! It was fun making Tessa's Ariel dress because I didn't have to worry about making ruffles! :lmao:

OMGosh! They just keept getting cuter and cuter!

Sorry I'm not commenting on every outfit today, I'm not feeling well at all, so I'm doing some skimming! But, there are some really cute outfits posted!!!
I didn't know you weren't feeling very well. I hope you're better today!

Ok, I'm needing ideas. SOmething is missing from these dresses, any ideas? There is actually 2 of each.

th_P1020805.jpg
These are so cute! I'm kind of behind, so you might already be done with these. I'd put some kind of trim at the bottom of the Ariel one and I'd put an applique, or an iron-on design on the top of both. But, even if you do nothing else, they're adorable!

Wow!! She made those PJ pants herself? That is great! I love all the AG stuff, too! That pink fabric with the butterflies on it looks eerily familiar! I think it's the same fabric I used to make Tessa's Halloween costume. The fabric I used was stretchy velvet with metallic butterflies. It was incredibly hard to work with, so kudos to you for making these so well!!

I agree there are some great children's customs here. It is nice to see some adult things too :thumbsup2 Your top looks great.

Here are a few of my customs.
I did this on before our October trip. The minnie jeans are from Disney shopping, but I customized the jacket.

This is my second attempt at this top. The first one was way too small for me so UpDisney's daughter's will benefit from that. The second attempt fits, but I am not impressed with the way it fits. th_AnimalPrintTop.jpg

Love your clothes! I only made a couple of customs for our trip last May but for our next trip I am going to make somethings for myself too! I think your shirt looks great and I think it would look great with a black cami under it too!

Last night I made my first twirl skirt. I had a lot of issues. I think my main issue is that I don't really know how to sew. :rotfl:

A few problems I had:

-I gathered the skirt before I pinned it together. I didn't read the directions right. This resulted in uneven gathers.

-My fabric wasn't long enough. I still don't know how I was supposed to fix this. :confused3 The directions said to buy one yard of each type of fabric, which I did. But then I was supposed to cut a stip that was like 80 inches long. One yard isn't long enough for that. Was I supposed to sew two strips together to make one strip? Because it wasn't long enough, it's not very "twirly."

-When I was gathering my thread kept breaking. Any tips for this? Or do I just need better thread?

-I cut really uneven. I don't have a rotary thingy, because I don't know what it is. :rolleyes1

I also made an applique shirt to match. The applique is really crooked. I can't seem to ever get them straight. I had my niece stand crooked so it would look straight! :rotfl:

th_P2031833.jpg

She tried to twirl, but I didn't use enough fabric. Whoops!

A little closer up shot of the shirt.

This is super cute!! I love the color combo's and I really like how you did the applique -- I am going to have to remember the I :lovestruc ::MickeyMo . I don't know anything about how to make those skirts but do know that your niece seems to absolutely love it and in my book that is the only thing that counts -- great job!

Hi - here is my try at Valentines outfits - the doggy and the LOve(onesie) shirts were from last year - I couldnt believe it when I got them out that I had fabric that matched pretty well!!! I tried finding some matching rick rack or something for the black outfit, but nothing quite matched the pinks and reds in the hearts - I also got a pair of black leggings with red stripes on them to complete the outfit.....think it will work????

i was also wondering if someone could post a pair of overalls where you sewed a little skirt around the middle???? I couldnt find it in the pictures - was I seeing things? How do you make those??? Thanks!!!

Love the t-shirt dresses. They are all really cute! I think the Valentine's is my favorite!

HI - I am a newbie here that was inspire by you all. I have two best friends who just had babies and two other acquaintances. . . I wanted to give them shopping cart covers as a gift - but most of the one's I saw were about $50 :scared1: So, inspire by you all I got a pattern and made 4 of them (2 sets with $1 a yard fabric (the first two I made) and two with nicer $2 a yard fabric from Walmart). Anyhow, I am SUPER proud of the 3rd and 4th ones I made. I made them all reversible.

Here's a pic of the first two on a Target cart:

Other side of it:

The one's with the nicer fabric, that are wayy nicer in terms of all the sewing. . .
th_DSC06302.jpg

These two have attached straps with snaps for toys:

th_DSC06303.jpg
th_DSC06304.jpg

In between I made my SIL some PJ's - she is having surgery and needs either gowns or oversized t's - since she doesn't wanna feel like an "old lady" I got men's 2X shirts, and then cut out her first and middle initials (AJ - which is her nickname) and did my first aplique job - FAR from perfect, I gotta get the speed down, but ok and made with love and that should count above all:

th_DSC06301.jpg

THANKS for all the inspiration. . . now I am going to try to applique some stuff onto baby onezie's and pants. . .

The shopping cart covers are GREAT! And it is a great idea for a gift! Also, love the pajama's for your SIL -- she will love them too! Good luck with her surgery!

I just took a better picture then the one I had of Georgia wearing this outfit months ago! I just found my stash of this left over scraps. I have enough lefto do another little outfit! I dont think this will fit her (too short) in May!

Too cute! I love that material! Great idea about recycling a stained shirt -- goodness knows I have some here!

That looks FANTASTIC!!! I love it! Absolutely perfect!!!

THANKS!!!

I've been trying to post few pictures of our december trip and my card reader broke! I used my friends, but only have a few minutes. So here's a whooping 3 pictures from our trip.

All three kids in Nemo outfits. It was very warm that day, so Haven is not wearing the matching pants.

Haven getting her first haircut! We just trimmed up the back, but she didn't mind a bit.

Haven meeting Goliath. My first attempt at applique.

The boys and I ended up passing around the flu the whole time we were there and we lost most of our adr's :sad1: Haven absoluted loved seeing the characters. Goliath spent about 10 minutes playing on the floor with her.

Unfortunately Dh wants this to be our last disney trip, besides maybe a mother/daughter one a few years from now. It was our second trip and the boys were very much been there, done that, let's get back to the pool!

Heidi

What adorable kiddos!!! Your JoJo is GREAT! And too sad about the guys in your family! But I would definitely plan Mommy/Daughter trips and leave them home. I bet after they got left home 1 time, they would be back on board again!

attention PrincessLeighsdaddy

is your dd an actress? Just curious, I was sitting here watching nickelodeon (sorry not disney) and there was a clorox commercial on with a little girl with long blonde hair on a swing and she looks so much like your dd. I just had to ask. trying to find my link to famouse people

Take picture of her in it when she wears it -- I think it will look good paired with some jeans!

Here is the twirl skirt I made yesterday for AK. I haven't decided on what to do about a top yet. DD finally agreed to let me take a picture of her in something :)

You are correct with your gathering stitch. One thing that could cause your thread to break is if you are using cheap thread. I always have trouble with the thread from Wal-Mart -- the black or white they sell for like .49 cents. And I remember one thing that my Home Ec. teacher always told us when doing gathers was to make two rows of gathering stitches, just a tiny bit apart so that if one stitch broke, you always had another and you didn't have to start all over.
