That's so funny! We must have both been working with the same pillowcase at approximately the same time! I definitely like yours better!

Tessa told me to tell you that she wants Megan's house.

In case anyone missed the orginal post, I'll make a Valentine Mickey tee for whoever can guess my son's middle name. No right guesses yet, so another clue - It's from a Disney/Pixar movie.

IMG_2980.jpg

As many guesses as you want.

It's not: Amos, Andy, Eric, Dale, Donald, Phillip, Sabasian or Lightning McQueen, Christopher, or Robin ;)!!

I'm going to guess Michael (as in Michael Sullivan). I haven't made it to the end of the posts, so someone has probably already won. But, I want to get my guess in there!

ETA: I meant Michael as in Mike Wazowski, but I see it was Marlin!!

QUESTION:

I am not an expert sewing mama that is for sure. I can follow a pattern pretty well. I STILL have yet to make pants because I am deathly fearful ( I have no clue why~!) But I want to make an outfit for dd that I dreamed up. But not sure how to do it without a pattern and I have not seen one that I Like that fits the idea the best.

I want to do some gathering for the top, how would I measure the fabric to fit her properly with the gathering? I think the rest I can handle, just the dang gathering is my issue right now.

I haven't caught up on the last day and a half, but here's what I was working on yesterday. A gigantic Ariel head dress! The 3rd picture is our Michigan version of a sundress and the 4th picture is Tessa boxing. As we all know, Ariel is quite the boxer. :confused3

This went pretty fast, but I'm not real happy with the way it fits her. I shirred it in the back, but it's still too loose. The fabric is sparkly variegated colors with gold hearts.

LOVE it! Did you line the back of the face?

The pictures should work now! Sorry about that!
-------------------------------------
I also found pictures of Arminda in her ballet class! Remember way back on our old board when we were sharing these! Well, now I can too!

Arminda (and all the other girls too) was 5 in these pictures:

024272342f33fe779707139e9c543d17f96.jpg

As you can see, Arminda is very very short! The teacher actually had to put in another barre so Arminda could reach it!

The studio wasn't quite finished for this first class! But, isn't Arminda a cutie!!!
32707723907d6fe02e2cec8d5666a2503a7.jpg

Unfortunately, there was a great big mirror in the room, so basically, all Arminda ever did was stare at herself!!!!

We have those tees at Walmart too - but in long sleeves. It is starting to get easier to find short sleeve tees in Michigan now. Good thing I didn't need to buy any for our trip! I'm down to single digit days!! I'm sooo excited!!

HeatherSue - very cute! I love the color on that dress!

Carla - thanks for giving us the instructons for that adorable skirt! Wouldn't you know it, my DS gets to be my model sometimes too...

We've discussed how much therapy this boy will need on this thread many times!

Teresa, Araminda looked so cute! That's how short Brianna's hair is, but it took her FOUR YEARS to get half as long.

I am currently growing my hair for locks of love. It's a LOOONG process. One of the little girls where I used to work lost her mom to cancer, so I am growing it out to donate, because it touched me so much. I am going from CROPPED, so it is taking a long time. :upsidedow

Ok, off to the dentist for me. My new computer should get here today, so I can get back to sewing!! Yay!
That is so sweet! Our neighbor died of cancer at the end of October, her little girl turned 2 in November and her little boy is 3(or is he 4?). So very sad.

Ms_Mckenna, I lost your quote, but I think it's great that you and your daughter do this every year! WOW!

Teresa.....where is Heather? It seems like she hasn't been around for a couple of days.
She emailed me yesterday, she's working on Sawyer's Prince Charming outfit!!!

Nope not paint!
Could you post a close up picture of them? Is it embroidery or applique then? They are so pretty!

Oh Teresa! I would be sobbing too! However, she would still be cute even if she were bald!
Thanks!

O.k. I am trying to get a better pic. of the guitar outfit and for some reason it is just giving me fits. The close up came out o.k.
th_guitarcloseup.jpg

I don't know what I am doing to mess this up though.
th_guitarskirtandtank.jpg

I was trying to find the link to the boden shirt that I copied, but a picture isn't showing up. I'll look for that again later. Maybe there sight is down or something.
I can't even tell you how cute I think this is!!!!

WOW, you guys remembered me, and my grandchildren, and my daughter who is in recovery! You are all so awesome!

I didn't know the thread was gone. Are there archives of the photos?

So Sad!

I have been so so busy. Jamie and her husband and Cameron were recently homeless in North Phila. and are staying with us until they are on their feet. So I get to come home and wake up to my darling grandson Cameron, now 10 months and 24 pounds of joy. SIL finally got a job in a foundry here and he has worked one week. He is trying to enlist in the Army for all of the family benefits. He just has to pass the physical...don't know how that will go.

Makayla is now 3! Where does the time go? I haven't had time to sew or to respond to any of the threads, but I was following everyone's creations and they are just as great as imagined!

Thanks for thinking of me. Had to cancel my upcoming trip to WDW for my 58th birthday...too much commotion with trying to help Jamie and family.
Sounds like you've been busy Susan! I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip!

I talked to Heather yesterday (via e-mail) and she still had a lots of snow and couldn't go anywhere so maybe she has been busy with the kids. Or sewing!

I actually whipped something up. I had the skirt, which I made last summer. But I thought I would try an appliquéd shirt with it because I never was thrilled with the peasant top I previously made. Megan liked it so much she wore it to school today (instead of the Ariel which I spent two whole days on!). She does love Nemo!

Very cute Stephanie!!!

I am suppose to go over to Mom's this afternoon, but Brian just called from work to tell me that the side roads are not very good. So, I may not get over there to see her today. :sad1:

Here's a little tute on how to make the reversible twirl skirt:
th_pettitwirl4.jpg

I've been promising one of my friends that I would put this together for her, so this was a good excuse to get it done :)

Now, this is nowhere as detailed as one of my eBooks, and the illustrations are far from perfect, but it gives the basics of the construction. It can be made without a ruffler, but it will take A LOT of gathering.

th_petti1.jpg

Wow! Thanks!! You are so generous to share this with us!

It wasn't until last year that I even noticed that they sold it by the yard!:rotfl2: I was always buying it at Wal-Mart and complaining b/c I thought it was expensive. It wasn't until a Hancock close to me was going out of business that I saw it!

Along this same line, I didn't know that they sold Heat 'n Bond in a package and you can use a notions coupon for that so you don't have to use a fabric coupon at Joann's. Just found this out last time I went and when I told the lady cutting my fabric how much Heat 'n Bond I needed she showed it to me. It allowed me to use a notions coupon which actually made it cheaper than if I had bought it by the yard and I got two more yards! Yeah!

I have a blooper, too. Sorry anyone who's read my PTR, this is a repeat...

Jasmine taking her "goosing" like a pro:
DSCN0402.jpg

I have plenty others, too. My kids don't like to just pose and smile for pics. They like to "pose".

This is too funny! Love this!

Also someone else I was wondering about from the first thread that I haven't seen on the new one.

Forgive me but I cannot remember her name but here are some details. She is a grandmother and I believe 2 of her grandkids were Mikayla and Nicholas. The little boy was adopted from Russia.

Has anyone seen her around?

I know her name is Susan but I can't remember her screen name. I also know that her other grandson from her daughter was sick (he was having seizures I believe) so maybe they are still caught up in that. Hopefully she'll find us again!

Okay here are the lastest things I've been doing.

Valentine bag - not in love with this but it's going to have to do.
th_school07-08173.jpg

This is the bag again and then tea (dish) towels that I will give to the kids teachers for Valentine's Day -

Those are really cute!

That is STUNNING Heather!!! I love that fabric you used for it!!!! Tessa looks gorgeous as usual!

I know what you can do about how it fits though...... Give it to Lydia!!!!

You knew that was coming, didn't you!

By the way, I cannot keep up! I logged on yesterday and we were at 90 pages and today we are at 116!

I hate that I am missing good stuff!

You guys are just too fast!

Hating to beat a dead horse. BUT...

Any news on when the old thread is going to be brought back and sticked to the top so that we have access to the information that was posted there? Just to recap, initially we were told 24 hours, then 48 hours, then it was Monday... Well, this is day 8. Where is the thread? Is it coming back? When?

ALSO, what has been the decision regarding long threads in the future? I thought the initial pull was for threads over 10,000 responses. IF this thread continues at the rate that it has gone for the past 8 days, then we have maybe 38 more days before THIS thread will be gone as well. What is the plan of action to archive the information that is here so that we don't get stuck ONCE AGAIN losing everything... never to be seen again.

Any ideas on how to protect our time and energy investment here?

I may have to CASE this! It is so pretty. Could you do a close--up of the applique? How did you put on the Ariel? It is so big, did it take forever?

Oh, and one more question. When you make these types of dresses, do you line the bodice?

Here's my latest project. This shirt is for my DH. I'm using the same material for a top for myself. That will have to wait until this weekend though. I also scanned the fabric into my computer so now I can make T-shirt designs for our 3 boys to coordinate with Dh and Mine

th_ChrisShirt001.jpg
I had to go find this post when I saw it in a multi-quote. Husbands who are willing to model a home-made shirt for you are few and far between! You've got a keeper! I love the shirt!

Teresa.....where is Heather? It seems like she hasn't been around for a couple of days.
I'm so touched that you noticed I was gone! :lovestruc I just made a conscious effort to stay away from the computer and try to get something done yesterday.

Ah yes, the Scooby Doo factor. ;) Steph probably knows what I'm talking about, but I'll explain. I slaved away for more than a week making Tessa's pink Cinderella mouse-made dress. She really loved it. But, I got a much bigger reaction when I spent 10 minutes cutting an applique of Scooby Doo off of some of her old jeans and sewing it to a new pair. For that, I got a huge hug and she told me I was the best mommy in the whole world! KIDS!

Here's a little tute on how to make the reversible twirl skirt:
I'm loving all the new creations! I'm off to go read some more...
Carla
Carla!! You're so nice to share this with us, thank you!!!

These are great! What a cool idea!

I'm sorry, I was thinking about that when I was taking the pictures. Poor Heather is snowed in and I played tennis this morning and Megan wore a t-shirt to school. Just think, by the time it's warm up there, it will be unbearably hot and humid down here! ;)
Yeah, rub it in! It's not as cold today, but there's LOTS of snow! If it was too hot, I'd be whining about that, too.

Tom says if you steam the shirring with a hot iron it will tighten up, did you try that?

Since we got the wii for Christmas, Megan likes to box too. She can beat DH, Jacob and me at it!
This was my first time shirring with the new machine. At first, it didn't look like it was working at all. But, once I hit it with the steam it gathered right up. It's just that the dress is too big on her all around.

O how darling that is!! I love that fabric. where did you get it?
I bought it at a local (I think it's just local) fabric shop called Field's around Christmas time. It was only $2/yard!

I want to help you on this, but I'm not sure what you're asking. Can you describe what you want to make?

LOVE it! Did you line the back of the face?
Nope, I didn't line it. It doesn't show through, either. It's still pretty stiff, with just the heat 'n bond behind it.

I may have to CASE this! It is so pretty. Could you do a close--up of the applique? How did you put on the Ariel? It is so big, did it take forever?

Oh, and one more question. When you make these types of dresses, do you line the bodice?

It seemed like I was zig-zagging forever to go around the applique. I'm not real proud of how it looks close up. It would have looked better if I went around more of the interior lines. But, I will post a close up, just for you!

This dress is completely lined. I thought about making it reversible because the only thing I would have had to do differently is turn the hem under on the inside. It's McCall's pattern 5088, but I made it with a rounded neckline. Plus, I made the neckline a little higher because it looked too low in the picture.

I really like the big face princess! Seems like I saw that steaming the shirring will make it shrink up. Not sure though.

My grandmother is 72 and but she is so spunky. She didn’t leave until 9:30 this evening. I was done at 7, but she was still going so I tried to keep up! Anyway- she left my house and I tried to get her to follow me to the main road. She refused to let me show her how to get out of here. Well, 35 minutes after she leaves she calls me on a stranger’s cell phone (her was uncharged- must be hereditary?) to tell me she was 35 minutes south of my house... I freaked. I was in the car on my way to find her and she refused to stay where she was. She had found a trucker who led her to a gas station, bought her gas and got her on the correct path home:scared1: I was so scared for her. She calls me when she gets home and says she is safe and she is sorry etc. I told her how worried I was and how scared I was she was with a stranger. My grandmother says "Don't worry Lace I had my quilting scissors in my pocket, I was fine!" So ladies there is one more use for our Ginger sewing scissors :) Crazy grandma... you gotta love her.
I am going to bed I am exhausted.

I love your grandma!

I found our pictures from when Arminda donated her hair to Locks Of Love. She was in 1st grade in these pictures, so she was almost 7. I still have a hard time looking at these pictures!
Before getting it cut. She looks nervous in this picture, but she was just very excited
This is when I started to cry. They asked if I needed a chair to sit down!

This is what I've been busy doing the past few days. I'm not happy with the fabrics I chose for the patchwork skirts. Too busy!!! I needed to get a solid color in there. But it was the first time I did them and I'll know better next time. I used a full 2x the width of each row.....and I hand gathered the ruffles......Oh my gosh it took forever!!! One is a size 12 and the other is a size 4. I still have to make the baby one but hopefully that won't be as bad! And the apron is a present for my SIL. We get together and sew every friday night so I thought this would come in handy.
