Look what I woke up to this morning- it's a 4ft snow drift, right in front of my garage door!!! I put a little gingerbread man on top of the drift, so you can see how high it is!

th_1-30-08Snowdrift.jpg

HOLY S##T!!!!!!!! I'd say it's a snow day! I sure wish we'd get some down here. We've had one snow day and there was about 1/4" on the ground. Idiots!

Thanks for all the entries for the Nemo Storybook fabric. And here I was afraid, no one would really want it -- who was I kidding, free fabric causes a frenzy 'round these parts!

Now the winner is....

We've got the winds, too. Gusts up to 60 mph. I just got back from putting Heidi on the bus and I'm freezing! I thought my days of waiting at the bus stop were long over, but nope.

Hi there!

My name is Carla :) ...

I've been checking in here and there (OK lurking) for the last few months, and I LOVE seeing all the beautiful creations made from my patterns!!! I spend TONS of time putting my eBooks together (forsaking all housework, poor DH), and seeing that they are used by loving moms to make custom sets for their beautiful kids really makes it all worthwhile :) .

Sometimes I see posts where someone has trouble with a particular pattern, and the insecure part of me wants to jump up and say - "but I said do this on page x!!!" Anyway, I just want to say - please please please p.m. me or email me for help (my url is in the eBooks, and that will get you to my email). I am very happy to help in any way that I can (though I have to admit that I still want to throw my ruffler into a busy street sometimes - LOL)!

So since I've "delurked" (a big thing for me because I am a big shy geek), I'd love to get in on this fun contest thing! The first 5 people that p.m. me and say "Hi geek!" get my brand new twirl skirt pattern emailed to them! I think this one totally lends itself to Mickey head appliques, and I hope to someday see one posted here :) !

CarlaC

WELCOME! I love your e-books. The directions are so easy to follow and the garment comes out great!

I LOVE them both! She looks so grown up sitting like that!

Ugggg. Don't tell me that! She's 8 now and fortunately loves for me to make her OOAK things to wear.

For those of you who have a razor thingy to cut fabric. You know, the circle blade for quilting. I hope I'm making sense. How long does your blade last? I seem to go through them quite frequently. And I always have one place where the blade doesn't seem to cut through the fabric, even a fairly new blade. Is this common?

Chantell

That happens to me too. I use a blade for about a year or so. It's not like scissors. You do have to saw back and forth slightly to make sure you get all the way through the layers. I stick to 2 layers at a time. If I do more, the fabric shifts under my ruler. You may try loosening the screw that holds the blade on to make sure the thing is turning properly.

BTW, it's a rotary cutter and I could never sew without one! I use it for curtain making and ruffles and bias!

I am proof you can teach an old dog new tricks. It took me a year to get around to it, but I learned to post pictures and multi-quote in the course of 7 days!!!

Yay.:goodvibes

I love all the pixie dust fluing around this new thread!! Congrats to all the winners!!

Welcome to all the newbies who are joining us. Be sure to post your creations when you are finished!!

And this is Tink. If I hadn't been so excited about this outfit, I probably would've shoved it in the back of a closet somewhere & not touched it again for months. I broke 4 needles & had to fix the bobbin 4 or 5 times & ripped the ruffle off at least 4 times before i got it right, BUT now that it's finished I love it.

Ohh, I'm glad you didn't stuff it in the closet! It's awesome! You and snubie are tied for my favorit pillowcase applique outfits!

I made it big, but it is a little longer than I planned. oops.

The Brianna:
th_DSCN0773.jpg

This is gorgeous and you absolutely need to make yourself one just like it!!

Well...my capri turn out a little short..so it looks like it is a pair of purple shorts! Not sure how I like it with the princess top....I didn't use the pants pattern that came with the top..instead, I use the YMCT Easy fit pants. I thought I measure it so it would be a little longer..guess I measured wrong. What do you think? Should I make a longer pair of pants to go with it (since I have more purple fabric), and is the rick rack too high or should I make a skirt instead..a twirl skirt of some sort? Here is a picture of my dd in the top and pants..she was less than thrilled that I interrupted her playing for pictures!

th_IMG_3749p.jpg

I think it's really cute!

Congrats to the winner!
Can't wait to see what you make with it!

Carla, so nice to have you join us! Your EBooks are great! I know that I have puchased a couple of them! And your ruffler tutorial is the BEST! I am now not afraid to use it, and I use it quite often now! I still can't optimize it to its full potential though. Each fabric seems to be a bit different, I get close and "fudge" it the rest of the way best that I can!

Here's some photos from our 2006 trip. Am already obsessing about what to sew for Dec 2008. DD swears she wear whatever I sew, but last trip she refused to wear some of the skirts and insisted on wearing shorts. Oh well.. This year she has requested something for High School musical. Any ideas?

There's no way I'm going anywhere today. Henry said he barely made it out, with his truck in 4 wheel drive. The drift is higher in front of my garage door, so I guess we're staying home.

On a high note, it's a SNOW DAY!!!

now that is some snow! WOW!!! It looks os lovely. of course in AZ snow looks lovely. may not be the same for you!

Lots of new creations! Carrie772 I love your Valentine's Peasant top and your Penguin applique.

Stephres, I love the nightgown. It looks so cozy and warm.

Hi all!
I wanted to post what I've been working on today....

dressesandplaques002.jpg

I finally tried the peasant top!!! woo hoo!!!
dressesandplaques009.jpg

and I have a question...what do you guys think of these?

dressesandplaques003.jpg

they've got ribbon hanging down to hold bows....which was their original use, but, I thought even just the personalized wall hanging was cute? I dunno...what do you guys think????
They are gorgeous!
Did you paint them or did you buy them?

I love those peasant tops. Sleeves scare me. I've never done one. Are they hard?

I like to bow holders, too. Of course, we have no need for those. My DD's refuse to wear any type of hair piece in their hair. :confused3
My DD doesn't like bows either. But, it would look great hanging in her room with out the bottom ribbon.

What is OOAK?

If your blade skips there is probably a little dent in it. I wouldn't change it. Fleece really wears the blades out. I had to replace mine after I made all those tie blankets for Christmas.

Hooray more time to :surfweb: That drift looks so cool!

I always use patterns. I am going to make the t-shirt nightgown but I am askeered. :scared: I don't have a pattern to make the skirt portion. I held the flannel up to DD and cut a little place in it so I would know how long to make it. Now I will use my rotary cutter to cut it straight. But I don't know how full it should be.

Here is what I made on Sunday

And just because they are too cute.
IMG_5671.jpg

Both the nightgown and the Tinkerbell top are like Peasant shirts. They are so EASY! It came together fast. Now I know what I am going to do with my St. Patrick's day material.

Hey All! What happened, only 7 pages to catch up on today! :lmao:

Thanks everyone for answering my questions about the patterns. Ironically, I OWN over 2,000 patterns (I bought them in lots, and sold off the ones I hated), but I rarely use them. I always feel like such a slacker. The only things I feel I have to use a pattern for are set-in sleeves and if I ever get up the nerve to make something with a collar.

Uh, I almost always ruffle and attach at the same time. :confused3 I just took a pre-set length of fabric and ruffled it measuring before and after to get the ratio of the ruffle. I always leave a few extra inches on either side, but it usually works out fine.

For the mommy-and-me...can't make myself one of the dresses/tops like Brianna's. I wear a G/H cup. It wouldn't fit right.

Soooo.....

Anyone want a mommy and me outfit made out of the silver fabric?? I'll GIVE YOU ONE. CONTEST!

Ok, here are the rules:

1. I can't make it until I finish my Disney customs, so you probably won't get it until May, as I probably won't even start until after we get back from WDW.

2. The mommy top is just a band with an attached skirty bottom. I can make a corset style back or it can just go over your head. This works best for an A or B cup. The bottom for the mommy is a gathered skirt with tiers of the embroidery. I could do drawstring capri-pants if you prefer. I THINK I have fabric that would work for it. The little girl outfit is almost identical to Brianna's, but the pants are bloomers, so not meant to be full length.

3. Please have your DD be about a size 4-8 ish. I will make more than one DD outfit if you have multiples.

4. You must be willing to send me pics of you guys wearing it that I can use for advertising. :)

5. I can't think of a good question, so PM me if you want your name added to the hat. I'll have Spencer pick one randomly tomorrow morning.

Oh, and a reminder on the Minnie roll....I haven't actually gotten it yet. :( As soopn as it arrives, I'll start hacking it up. :lmao:

I have a question: do you guys usually use a pattern when you sew?

I almost NEVER use patterns. Of course, I almost always make my bags, peasant dresses, pants and/or shorts, skirts, and sleeveless dresses....none of which require a pattern. :confused3

Am I weird, or do you guys not use patterns much either??

I'm about half and half. I could never have done pants/shorts without a pattern.

Awww I love all your pictures and your customs!!! Awesome!!

Thank You!! I love your new siggy pictures. That little guy is precious!

Here is Bonnie's Valentine's Day top.

Welcome!! Your ruffler tutorial got me off to a great relationship with my new tool! Thank you!!

My kids loved this picture. Megan thought it was in front of Splash Mountain, but her brother corrected her. Then they discussed how scary Mt. Everest was and how they were both too little to ride it. It was so funny! All your pictures are great. The castle ones are breathtaking: mine didn't turn out nearly that great.

Thanks! If you want full size copies of any of the castle ones for your scrapbook I'd be happy to share. Your kids are so funny with the Everest conversation. All four of the daredevils in that picture rode it! (I was the only one who wimped out!) However, it was the only ride that they came off saying, " I DON'T want to do that again!!"

Ack! I'm making 2 pillowcase dresses, Aurora and Tinker Bell. I just realized I sewed the purple strips of Aurora's dress to Tinker Bell's dress. I know that doesn't make sense right now. I'm just so upset with myself. I try to make two things at a time so DD5 and DD4 will have a new outfit together. And then I do this. Ugh! Now, where's that seam ripper?

Grrrr!! How frustrating! I hope it didn't take too long to get them apart.

I love it! Which pattern are you using?

What a great picture! My DH would be mad if I took a pic of DS in a dress/nightgown. DS paints his toenails and fingernails when my girls do and DH hates it. Hey, they love it so that's all that matters.

BTW, loved your Tinker Bell top. I have that fabric just laying around.

I search "custom boutique disney" or "custom boutique princess" HTH!
Thanks! I will try this and maybe my search results won't be so broad!
I completely understand. I am still not speaking to my ruffler foot now that Tom has introduced me to upholstery thread!

Here is little Megan in her new nightgown (she has more nightgowns than Imelda Marcos has shoes, but she liked the fabric so who was I to say no?):
