Do you ever feel like there will not be enough time to make all of the outfits you have planned? We have 9.5 days to go and about 7 things still to work on. Ugh!

Be honest, can a total newbie at sewing tackle CarlaC's Peasant top? I handled the bodice of the criss cross dress just fine but my mom had to do the gathering of the skirt for me. I *think* I can do the peasant top (altered the pattern a bit to make it A line) from reading the pattern.

Yes, I think you can do it. It is fairly straight forward and has lots of pictures. Plus feel free to ask questions here if you get stuck as many of us have made that pattern numerous times.

I need help re: the Big Give. I choose to do a Donald Duck themed outfit. I bought an appliqué on eBay but not sure what type of outfit/pattern to make. I don't have many creative bones in my body so any creative thoughts/suggestions you may have would be great. I was thinking a-line top with capris. Any other thought?

You can buy fonts on ebay, or embroidery sites. They're just individual designs (one design for a, one design for b, etc). I don't have a program that lets me use any TTF's. The $200 is holding me back. I'm sure I've spent more than that on designs already though.

So, if I want to spell out a four letter name it will be about $20? $5 for each letter?

But the program that came with the futura machine will let me use the fonts I download? The program sure is simple. It is really hard to edit or work with the letters.

It is super easy. I love that pattern. I have used it so many times since I bought it. I think I need reprint my pattern peices though. I think they are getting too worn out. :rotfl2:

I love Donald Duck. I did a Donald Duck outfit for Jenna. It didn't make it WDW though. She wore it before the trip and when I washed it the straps frayed and I didn't have time to replace them. This is the outfit that I made her.
This is the front.

And this is the back.

I used the Boutique top pattern and just used the front of the pattern for the back. The pants are the CarlaC Easy fit pants.

Hey I don't have a project for the BIG GIVE. I want one!!!
PM Beth, I'm sure there is something you can do! I just think it's wondeful how many people are participating in this!!!

Did you cacth my "Outfit or Two A Day" marathon the week I left for Florida?? :rotfl2: I'm a horrible procrastinator!

Yes, CarlaC's portrait peasant top is perfect for a beginner! Buy a bodkin, it will help with the elastic!
I hope you don't all think I'm kooky for erasing the faces. So far, I love everyone who posts on this thread, and if this were a private board I would have no issues... It makes me nervous that this is the thread that pops up in google though when you are looking for anything sewing and disney related. I'm a bit overprotective...

You've done great stuff here! I love the mickeys on the end of the straps, and your minnie applique looks stunning!
You do what you do to protect your family, no one thinks thats kooky!

Thanks. :) I have no idea who the original idea come form for most of my stuff but I'll do my best!! I only have like 5 outfits to share so I won't have to do much research. LOL

I am definitely not selling. LOL You'd couldn't pay me enough to make even one simple outfit because I am so slow and it takes me forever to do one simple thing. ;) Plus, all my stuff falls apart when I wash it so I don't think anyone would want any of my things anyway. They'd be demanding a refund! LOL :lmao:

Which leads me to this question. My appliques fray away from my embroidery line when I wash them. I put them in the machine on Hand wash so I thought I'd be safe that way. How do you keep them from fraying? I wonder if I just make my embroidery line to thin. Any tips??? It's too much work to wear just once. ;)

LisaZoe told Heather way back when.... that you should use a fabric with a print to it, even a slight print. Apparently, they resist fraying more than a plain fabric. Liza suggested using the wrong side of printed fabric too.

Oh NO!!! I was so looking forward to reading about Donald's reaction to this outfit!!! It is just so cute!!

First, did you get autopunch with your machine? I don't have that, so I'm not sure how it works. I'm just trying to clarify exactly what you're asking. Without autopunch, I think the plain old Futura software has like 4 fonts that are preloaded. OR, you can purchase font sets from different sellers. I think I've purchased some from www.emblibrary.com. There are lots of price ranges. I think I paid about $7- $9 for each set? Some of the alpha sets are much more expensive ($20-$30 a set). When you purchase them, you download them to your computer. When you want to use them, you open the Futura software, go to File > Open > wherever you downloaded your alpha and open the letters that you're going to use. Another tip. To add letters, you want to go to MERGE, rather than just opening another design. When you've merged all of the letters you want, you can move them around where you want them, and then stitch them out. If you need more specifics, let me know and I'll open up the program and give you specifics.

maybe some kind of sailor outfit. A white shirt with 2 navy ribbons stiched along the bottom. You could do the Aline top with a large nay ruffle on teh bottom and the applique. Fairly simple and super cute!

Unfortunately it didn't make it to FL. :worried: We did see Donald Duck though and he gave me a hug because I told him he is my favorite.

Nope I didn't get Autopunch. The Futura Software had Arial, Courier, Block, Script and Times. I think it is going to take me some time to learn how to use the machine. I have read the manual though ::yes:: I will look at the site you listed.
Thanks for your help.

Do you make Mickey Heads? THat Is what I really want to make next. I am making a Minnie Themed Bag for the Big Give project and I want to put a Mickey Head on the bag.

Yes, I have a Mickey head design. Several of the sellers that I sent you in PM sell them. This is the one that I have. It stitches very easy.

I have 2 boys (6 & 23months) and a daughter (9) that I sew for, so it sometimes seems lonely. Everyone seems to have little girls to sew cute things for. I feel like I have to search and search and search for patterns and ideas for my kids. Thought I'd share a couple of boy outfits I've made. If anyone has others, I'd like to see them!

Ok, this is what I've been working on this long weekend. I still have lots of work to do (organizing all the drawer space, labeling, I need to get another bookcase for fabric storage). I've been able to somewhat clean this space up.

SOOO! I'd love to see where you sew!

Anyway, I've been sewing for a long time, and I sew some for profit, but I was inspired to learn applique from this thread and from the fact that my taste in boutique clothing far outpaces my budget for it. A few days ago I finished my first Minnie head, and I'm going to try doing her entire body soon. I did it as a sample for someone using a small size t-shirt that I had on hand, so it's not being modeled by one of my kids in the pic, but I think you can see it fairly well. I'm happy with it. There are a few things that I'll do differently next time, but overall I think it looks pretty good.

I also just finished this dress for my daughter to wear on our next trip. I made it a bit large so that she will, I hope, still fit into it when we go. I had been wanting to try this pattern for a while, and now that I have it's one of my favorites.

I'm totally picturing it in my head with a white crochet cloche (that I'll have to buy. A girl only has so much time for creative pursuits, lol.)
You did a great job on Minnie!!!

That dress is so cute!

Your boys are so cute!!! I love what you've made them. That truck shirt is adorable!

I love seeing these pictures!!!! You guys are so cute!

I tried adding a few photos to the new photobucket group account. I can't get it to just add them from my existing photobucket account.:headache: Maybe my Mac doesn't like photobucket.:confused3

It's been an exhausting weekend. Saturday I finished a dress for my youngest DD to wear today. Yesterday we celebrated my oldest DD's birthday and today we had the parade. I'm not ready to go back to work tomorrow.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! :goodvibes I am going to give it a shot tomorrow. I figure if anything I am giving my mom a hand and at least start on it.

I hate tomorrow is back to the grind. I was on a roll this weekend.

I love that dress. It can be worn for the Fourth of July too.

Lordy, what did I miss (rhetorical question, please don't answer that!)? I guess I am just glad this thread is still standing.

We had a great time! Here is Megan at princess lunch (it was raining, so we were a little droopy, she looked much cuter before the rain, I promise!):

IMG_0530.jpg

Showing Cinderella her book. She was impressed that "her castle" was on the cover. Poor Megan, her hair was in a cute bun before we got caught in the rain. She had a tiara too but said it was "too itchy."

For Arminda:

Then my camera battery died (doh!). We have other pictures but they are on Megan's camera, which I haven't figured out how to work yet.

The tea party was fun, pretty much only cast members commented on her dress, but a couple of moms asked where I got the fabric from.

We left Scrappy in the care of the neighbor girls who babysit and I don't think they checked on him enough. I found three accidents and the house still does not smell so good. I am sure Miss Cammie will find a way to absolve Scrappy from this though.

Missed you guys!
