Ok, this is what I've been working on this long weekend. I still have lots of work to do (organizing all the drawer space, labeling, I need to get another bookcase for fabric storage). I've been able to somewhat clean this space up.

sewingroom.jpg

SOOO! I'd love to see where you sew!

Wow - Nice set up! I sew on the dining room table, but DH promissed that the next house would have a craft room... a place for sewing and scrapbooking!! Too bad it will be at least a year before we are ready to move.

ok, I'm back after 7 HOURS of work on my computer :furious: . It is still not done, but I can open hotmail now LOL and load smilies. :cool1:

I have not tried photobucket yet.

But I did learn, "you should not try a new pattern, on a new machine when you are angry".:bitelip: :worried:

A friend gave me some uncut patterns from the 60's thru the 80's and I tried what APPEARED to be a simple sundress.......... I am going to have to take it apart and umm read the directions LOL.

Hi everyone! I posted to this thread for a while last summer before and after our trip, but since then I've only lurked. I've loved seeing all of the fabulous outfits and the beautiful children, and reading about everyone's trips. I hope it's not too creepy that I've lurked for so long, lol. I've been a regular poster on a much smaller Disney-related message board for many years, but they're not sewers and there's only one of them who "gets" boutique clothing.

Anyway, I've been sewing for a long time, and I sew some for profit, but I was inspired to learn applique from this thread and from the fact that my taste in boutique clothing far outpaces my budget for it. A few days ago I finished my first Minnie head, and I'm going to try doing her entire body soon. I did it as a sample for someone using a small size t-shirt that I had on hand, so it's not being modeled by one of my kids in the pic, but I think you can see it fairly well. I'm happy with it. There are a few things that I'll do differently next time, but overall I think it looks pretty good.

I also just finished this dress for my daughter to wear on our next trip. I made it a bit large so that she will, I hope, still fit into it when we go. I had been wanting to try this pattern for a while, and now that I have it's one of my favorites.

I'm totally picturing it in my head with a white crochet cloche (that I'll have to buy. A girl only has so much time for creative pursuits, lol.)

Love the Minnie head, you did a fantastic job!

The dress is wonderful too! It looks like the same pattern that one of my girls' dresses used (a totally bought dress, from a store, not handmade). I loved the dresses on them so I may have to go buy that pattern. If I get the chance I'll show you what I mean tomorrow if I can figure out the new photobucket account! :rotfl: It takes me a while to learn new things!

Lordy, what did I miss (rhetorical question, please don't answer that!)? I guess I am just glad this thread is still standing.

We had a great time! Here is Megan at princess lunch (it was raining, so we were a little droopy, she looked much cuter before the rain, I promise!):

th_IMG_0530.jpg

Showing Cinderella her book. She was impressed that "her castle" was on the cover. Poor Megan, her hair was in a cute bun before we got caught in the rain. She had a tiara too but said it was "too itchy."

For Arminda:

th_IMG_0538.jpg

Then my camera battery died (doh!). We have other pictures but they are on Megan's camera, which I haven't figured out how to work yet.

The tea party was fun, pretty much only cast members commented on her dress, but a couple of moms asked where I got the fabric from.

We left Scrappy in the care of the neighbor girls who babysit and I don't think they checked on him enough. I found three accidents and the house still does not smell so good. I am sure Miss Cammie will find a way to absolve Scrappy from this though.

Missed you guys!

Oh, poor Scrappy! I know that the few times Oscar has had an accident he has been so ashamed and felt terrible about it. Looks like you had a great time despite the rain.

Whew! Just got caught up. My internet has been down all day so I had to sew :confused3 I finished my Big Give outfit and am working on the bows. I keep forgetting bows are not my thing. :lmao: I had to try it on my model (the closest thing I have around to a size 6 :rolleyes1 ) to get an idea on length and I must say it looked cute on, my model *ahem* was pretty cooperative but drew the line at taking pictures. :rotfl2:

thanks for coming out of lurkdom! The Minnie head looks great and I love the dress! I have a SIL that knits and crochets--I need to remember to buy her a pattern!

Do you ever feel like there will not be enough time to make all of the outfits you have planned? We have 9.5 days to go and about 7 things still to work on. Ugh!

Be honest, can a total newbie at sewing tackle CarlaC's Peasant top? I handled the bodice of the criss cross dress just fine but my mom had to do the gathering of the skirt for me. I *think* I can do the peasant top (altered the pattern a bit to make it A line) from reading the pattern.

I know everyone's told you, but since I've made a majillion of these, I have to tell you, it is a good one for a newbie.

I hope you don't all think I'm kooky for erasing the faces. So far, I love everyone who posts on this thread, and if this were a private board I would have no issues... It makes me nervous that this is the thread that pops up in google though when you are looking for anything sewing and disney related. I'm a bit overprotective...

Nope, not kooky! Overprotective is good. I'm just glad you let us see your cute costumes!

I go around my appliques twice with the zig zag stitch. I haven't had any fray.

That's a good idea. I never thought of that. I have often gone over a rough spot a second time, but I might just try the whole thing!

Yes, I think you can do it. It is fairly straight forward and has lots of pictures. Plus feel free to ask questions here if you get stuck as many of us have made that pattern numerous times.

I need help re: the Big Give. I choose to do a Donald Duck themed outfit. I bought an appliqué on eBay but not sure what type of outfit/pattern to make. I don't have many creative bones in my body so any creative thoughts/suggestions you may have would be great. I was thinking a-line top with capris. Any other thought?
th_donald.jpg

I'm sure whatever you make will be darling! I have a halter top pattern--I think it is the same one Elisa uses a lot--that would be cute with Donald on it also. I envy your donald applique! I've been looking for one on :wizard: but no luck yet.

http://http://
I have 2 boys (6 & 23months) and a daughter (9) that I sew for, so it sometimes seems lonely. Everyone seems to have little girls to sew cute things for. I feel like I have to search and search and search for patterns and ideas for my kids. Thought I'd share a couple of boy outfits I've made. If anyone has others, I'd like to see them!

Those are great! I'll have to look and get some in photobucket. I mostly make my boys PJs but have made them button up shirts. I bought some cute fabric to make Carla's bowling shirt for Luke popcorn:: :rolleyes1

I'd love to see where I sew too! Right now it is under piles of fabric and patterns all over the place and thread all over the floor...

I tried adding a few photos to the new photobucket group account. I can't get it to just add them from my existing photobucket account.:headache: Maybe my Mac doesn't like photobucket.:confused3

It's been an exhausting weekend. Saturday I finished a dress for my youngest DD to wear today. Yesterday we celebrated my oldest DD's birthday and today we had the parade. I'm not ready to go back to work tomorrow.

th_DSC08901_1.jpg

Very cute, my Dsis almost bought that fabric the other day and she doesn't even have a sewing machine :lmao:

That looks great! I wish I had a nice space to sew. I sew in my bedroom on a little fold away table....I'm going to have to buy a sewing table though because this table shakes when I sew.

Sorry that's not working for you! It's so nice to be able to do that! Maybe someone here has some advice for you!!!

The dress turned out great!

Lordy, what did I miss (rhetorical question, please don't answer that!)? I guess I am just glad this thread is still standing.

Missed you guys!

It is so good to have you back Steph!!!

It looks like you guys had fun! Megan looks adorable, even when she is wet!!!

I will make sure to show Arminda that picture! IF her FATHER ever brings her home! They went out to get icecream about an hour ago! Doesn't he know it's a school night??? :confused3

I love old patterns! What fun, if they work!

I am alomast done with my Big Give outfit!!!!! I just have to do the ruffle on the top. I am still ruffling by hand as I have not gotten up the guts to go get aruffler foot and try to use it, and I have done so much today my hands are cramping! BTW does anyone have a particular ruffler foot that they can recommend for a singer machine? Anybody ever use a ruffler foot on their serger? I just bought a singer serger and there is one that goes with it.

Love the photos! I didn't realize the back of Megan's top was pink. I  it! And the your kids are so gorgeous in the picture with Jasmine! I think my DS8--9 tomorrow! has the same shorts and shoes as Jacob.

STEPH!!!!!!! :cool1: I've been wondering about y'all ALL weekend!!!

first, of course I have to explain that poor Scrappy was clearly feeling rumpled in spirit and really very forlorn...which led to the accidents that were the BABYSITTERS fault...NOT Scrappy's fault. He felt UPSET. Beside himself I'm sure.

(I don't actually think Scrappy felt badly about the accidents as he is as dachshund and they rarely feel sorry about anything...but still, I'm sure it PAINED him to have to potty in the house!)

poor scrappy.:sad1:

Your kids are SO gorgeous!! Your son is just as handsome as all get out!!

Megan looked so LOVELY in her outfit! I hope she had a fabulous birthday!!! Was this her 6th or 7th birthday?

Oh yes, our little thread has Phoenix like qualities...rising from the ashes, reborn, rarin and ready to go!!!

:furious: ->:love: ...::yes:: ...:lmao:

so glad y'all had a good time!!! :goodvibes

Can I ask what kind of drawers are those? I am fixing to redo my sewing room and I'm looking for drawers. Are the pretty sturdy? Also where did you get your child size manequin?

Can I ask what kind of drawers are those? I am fixing to redo my sewing room and I'm looking for drawers. Are the pretty sturdy? Also where did you get your child size manequin?

They are Crop In Style drawers. I use to scrapbook (I've mostly switched to digital now), and these are hangovers from that time. They're great because you can configure however you need.

I am a long-time lurker (since the first thread!) and sewer (since I was 12--*ahem* thirty years ago  ) but have never posted here.

I LOVE all the projects you have all shared :goodvibes I'm gearing up to make some outfits for dd8 before our extended family trip in August---she's the last I can sew for. Dd13 wants to make her own clothes since she's having a hard time finding things she likes at Old Navy and Kohl's etc. She has a definite sense of style but has a hard time being a size 1 or 3 and somewhat modest :goodvibes DsAlmost15 likes a Mickey tie dye shirt...

Anyway, I just want to say HI to the fellow lurker I saw in the Christiana DE JoAnn's today. We were both at the pre-shirred fabric section! I didn't end up buying any----I called home to ask ds to measure dd8 but I didn't quite trust his measurements :lmao:

I did however buy 3 of the $1 patterns for dd8!

So I labeled and uploaded 88 pics into our joint photobucket account.:cool1: And then there's this issue with "tagging". I have no idea how to do this....or what happens if I do. I started to do it and it looked like it was going to resize my picture or something. I don't know,,,, I am not exactly computer savey :badpc: Heck I can't even spell right now.

We had a long long but wonderful day which is coming to a fast close. Oh one more comment/question. I wrote a title and a description for each of my 88 pics. How do you get the description to show up??? Or when does it show up??? :rolleyes1 OK off to bed I go...hi ho hi ho its off to bed I go...:rolleyes1

Oh one more thing....I love the outfits posted today and Steph/Meg/Jacob/Norway pics and Revrob's sewing room and I am forgetting others I am sorry but I was very impressed nonetheless.

Someone take Scrappy for a walk :headache: :rotfl2:

Oh yes...final question....has anyone seen the new Narnia movie yet? Prince Caspian....We are going this week I think or next to see it. I heard its really good. :offtopic: ::yes:: ;)

Well - they are not "outfits" but here is a pic of some pajamas I made for DS this weekend. I have one more pair to go.
I got a BUNCH of plain T's at JoAnn for $2 each!!!
DSC_3088.jpg

I love the pirate one. What is that pirate ship, an iron on? Where did you get the fabric. I need to make a pirate outfit for ds23months for our upcoming cruise and hopefully P&PP after.

A friend gave me some uncut patterns from the 60's thru the 80's and I tried what APPEARED to be a simple sundress.......... I am going to have to take it apart and umm read the directions LOL.

Oh, so sorry about your computer. Hope you are back up and fully running soon.

I wondered about those old patterns, are they quite different? Or do you not know, since you haven't read the directions? :rotfl: Good luck, I hope you figure it out!

Oh, poor Scrappy! I know that the few times Oscar has had an accident he has been so ashamed and felt terrible about it. Looks like you had a great time despite the rain.

Rest assured that Scrappy was quite chipper when we got home and doesn't seem to feel terrible about it at all! Even while I was cleaning it up he was wagging his tail and poking me with his nose. It's a good think you're cute, I told him!

It only rained the first day and was quite pleasant the rest of the weekend, so we felt lucky!

:confused3

OH, wow!! That is nice!!! My sewing room looks EXACTLY like my dining room table! Go figure! :lmao:

1) I missed you too!

2) We had a lot of fun. Megan did get pen marks all over her top. Do you think denture tablets will get them out?

3) I hope she comes home soon!

4) My sewing room looks EXACTLY like my dining room table too! :rotfl2: At least we don't have an extra fridge in there too.

Looks like you had a good time, andMegan always looks great no matter ho wet she got!

Thanks!

How can you guys be done already? I haven't even started and I have one thing on my list to do before I can. Everyone is going to make me look bad!

Love the photos! I didn't realize the back of Megan's top was pink. I  it! And the your kids are so gorgeous in the picture with Jasmine! I think my DS8--9 tomorrow! has the same shorts and shoes as Jacob.

I think I was going to make it white but decided the last minute to use the pink fabric I used in the front. Thanks for the compliments! Jasmine was very sweet. She and Cinderella were my favorites. Even Jacob said something about how much he liked Jasmine.

Jacob has about 10 of those shorts in different colors. He won't wear anything else, except when I made him dress up for church. Why can't 8 (soon to be 9) year olds button and zip up pants? We got those shoes on sale at Target, he loves them!

Yes, I knew you would defend Scrappy at the same time knowing that he wasn't sorry at all. I already asked the girls to watch him in July, but I will have to tell them that he needs more attention than they were giving him this go around.

Megan turned six. She left me a note on the computer Saturday so I would find it before we left: Hoppe Birfday to Megan! I am six! Luts go to disnewod!

Cute! I love to make pjs for my boy too.

Welcome! I hope you can share something soon. I am always on the lookout for tweener outfits, for the future!

Nice score for the patterns! I love getting them for a dollar!

Steph, hair spray takes out ink pen marks, spray it on there put a washcloth or paper towel behind the spots and blot from the front and the ink should be gone.

I use this all the time. Someone also told me that using a pencil eraser can get them off as well. I tried it on the Giselle wedding dress I got Delaney, it had ball point pen on it, the eraser didn't work but the hair spray did and it didn't even leave a water mark on the nylon satin.

Hope that helps!

OH, wow!! That is nice!!! My sewing room looks EXACTLY like my dining room table! Go figure! :lmao:

Weird! Mine too! Although I do have this nice little corner in the playroom, for stampin and scrappin!
My DH built this for my for our Anniversary last year.

I actually think I have shared this before, but I  My DH so much for finding space for me I just have to share again. Maybe sometime or another I will get a whole room!!

SOOO! I'd love to see where you sew!

WOW, that is awesome! Can I come over? :) I have a scrapbooking room but there is not enough room for all my sewing stuff. It is a tiny room and we have a corner allotted for the kids crafts and another one for the computer so I sew in the dining room also. I cleaned out my buffet and it holds all my stuff.

Lordy, what did I miss (rhetorical question, please don't answer that!)? I guess I am just glad this thread is still standing.

Megan is so cute and I love that top (I am sure I said that before but I wanted to again) We missed you too! So glad you are back!

Holy cow---88 pics! That's great. I haven't been on it today yet. I will have to go take a look. I still have to find all my pics and finish uploading them. I have been lazy. I started working on a patchwork twirl skirt (my first!) and it is kicking my butt. I have sewed for a while but never tackled one of these. It is very time consuming but is going to look super cute if I ever get it finished. I will of course post pics.
