Tom: You are the MAN!!!!
How did you do the quilting, what batting did you use? any tips on keeping the lines straight ?

I quilted a fabric for a handbag(don't want to do it again:confused3 ) and I had a hard time keeping the lines straight

th_2007_05250013.jpg
th_2007_05250014.jpg

any tips?

BTW Do you have a twin brother that does sewing, cooking and cleaning?

I actually used the fusible fleece as my batting. To keep the lines straight, my sewing machine came with a quilting guide. It is a little metal thingy that connects to the shank of the presser foot. You can set it up to whatever distance you need.
I also have marked the back of the fusible fleece with a fabric marker and used that as my sewing guide.
And yes I do have a twin brother Tim. He cooks and cleans, but wouldn't even know how to turn a sewing machine on.:goodvibes

I got the sewing machine out today. I am going to buy a pattern and darn it I'm going to make something!!

any suggestions for something simple and dope proof?:lmao:

on another note...

There is a bad man who has an adult grandsom who lives down the street from us. This man is very large and very tall. He verbally assaulted me once (meaning he started yelling and advancing towards me in a very scary way) when I was walking my puppy and accused me of letting my dog go potty in his grandson's yard...which we do not do...I know who does though...*cough*HISnextdoorneighborlady*cough*...anyhow...he's very menacing and he scares me. Jay went out and *asked him nicely* to keep his body and his nasty language away from me from now on (love my man! )...So today this man is walking up and down the sidewalk in front of our house. I don't know why. He keeps stopping and looking at my door and then starts pacing again. Jay is not home and I'm afraid to go outside. I'm not very big and neither is my puppy.

He's not doing anything illegal really. If I call the police it will cause massive bad neighbor relations and we have to live here at least six more months to a year. (wretched housing market!)

Part of me wants to open the door and tell him that he is scaring me and to please stop pacing in front of my house.

It bugs me being afraid of this man. But he's scary.

ick. what I hate is being afraid in my own house.

grrrr.

just thought I'd share. now I feel better. :goodvibes :goodvibes

How in the world do you put in a sideways zipper in upside down? :confused3

That is awesome, especially quilting it yourself. I have quilted fabric that has been sitting in my closet for almost a year. I think I got too ambitious!

I totally understand about not wanting to do more of them. When I went through my "knot purse" phase I made about 6 of them and now you couldn't pay me to do one more; I am so sick of them!

Hey, too much Lily! :rotfl2: You did a great job on the big face Tink and she looks adorable as always, I just want to squeeze her!

Very cute! I think I'll be CASEing that purse applique!

LOL, CASE the CASE! :rotfl:

cute cute CUTE!! Megan sure does seem to be growing up! I LOVE the shirt!!!

Don't I know it. She told me yesterday that she is no longer a little anymore since she is turning six and she hopes I am "okay with that." Actually, I am not okay with that! She is turning six on Saturday and both her front teeth are loose, I am freaking out a little bit.

She told me that it would be all right, because Scrappy would stay my little baby forever. :rotfl2:

That is cute! I should try the ric rac along the edges, it is so sweet!

You are awesome with a toothpick, lady! The detail on the faces is extraordinary, wow!

I have a couple of questions for you guys:
1. Where do you find all your great Disney Fabrics? Some of them are fantastic!
2. Can some one explain what the appliques are and how to do them. If this has been explained several times I apologize  I am new to the thread and have not been able to read the whole thing.
Thanks for the help.

I love to answer questions!

1. Wal-Mart, JoAnn's and :wizard: (ebay). I think the most fantastic ones come from :wizard: .
2. In the first post of this thread there is a link to Teresa's bookmarks, which include instructions for lots of techniques, including applique.

Welcome! I hope you make something to share soon!

Couple questions
1- For those of you who used the Mickey head button-adhesives- how did you get them to stay permenantly on the fabric?

2. Im still trying to decide how to use my coveted Minnie Dot fabric (I was so pleased, it was laying on the couch when DH came home and he looked at it and said "Hey- Minnie Dot fabric!" I was so proud of him, LOL.

Okay- so I have this commonsensepattern- I could do the minnie dot in the "pinafore" fabric and then yellow for the under skirt and maybe white sleeves- I really wish it had more of a short sleeve- might be too hot-
hayley-dress.jpg

Or a halter dress-pillowcase pattern-looks like a simple pattern, and looks like it would be cool-.

DD is wearing like a size 1 or 2 and is only 32" tall....

I have a little sundress with ties o nthe shoulders too, that I have not used yet.

or, or, or.

This is a large dot fabric- if you recall Tinka Belle's recent post of her daughter with the yellow apron- its that fabric, so a large dot for a little girl. Suggestions for other patterns welcome...

Yay, more questions!

1. I peeled off the adhesive and sewed them on, but I bet you could use fabric glue too.

2. The dress you posted is adorable but may be hot depending on when you are going. Pillowcase dresses are easy and there are fun ways to dress them up (check out :wizard: for ideas). I love CarlaC's patterns and they are quick and easy (youcanmakethis.com). HTH!

Just thought I would post real quick. We made it to WDW just fine. I did get a call on the drive over from my grandpa. He told me one of cousins had died in a car accident. He is only one year younger than me so that was hard. I wanted to turn around, but pawpaw said no that that is not what Josh would want. I was trying to be strong, but when DH and Jenna fell asleep I couldn't hold back. The song Arms of the Angels came on the radio and that was all it took.

Well after we got here we all took a short nap and then Jenna and I went to the MK. She got pixiedust 3 times. First a CM gave her Mickey stickers in StarTraders second a CM stopped her on the way to the potty in Fantasyland sprinkled her with Mickey glitter and made her an honorary princess for the day third we were getting icecream at Auntie Gravities and she was talking to the CM taking our order and her supervisor was standing next to her and he gave Jenna two Tink pins, but never said a word. We were exhausted when we got back to our hotel. We stayed in the park till it closed.

 So sorry about your cousin. That's nice that Jenna got so much pixie dust. I hope it continues! princess:

Stephres ~ When you did the peasant top into an A line, did you just use pattern piece 1 and 2a from the peasant and use cutting line A? I know the length of my A line is what I want so I thought I just needed to trace the main bodice piece at the arm opening and extend the fold line down. I hope I said that right.

Ok, it really isn't that hard so I must be doing a terrible job of explaining. I took pictures to help.

Here are my pattern pieces for CarlaC's portrait peasant top and a-line jumper:

IMG_0507.jpg

I folded the top of the a-line pattern down:

IMG_0508.jpg

Then I taped them together and cut out the fabric:

IMG_0509.jpg

I hope that helps! PM if I still didn't explain that right!

Call the police and have them do a "drive by" just to get the big galoot to go back to his den. Seriously. I don't put up with garbage like that. Come on Jersey girl! :cheer2: We'll be here waiting to see what happens. And with neighbors like that, who cares about the "bad neighbor relations"....clearly this guy has a chip on his shoulder.

OK I finished something this weekend and have another unfinished project to work on.....so here is the finished birthday present for one of the preschoolers at my DDs' school. It was the same pattern I keep using. I put it on my DD. She requested purple and it is....

IMGP5492.jpg

IMGP5491.jpg

And the partly done outfit with Minnie....I want to make capris and a second one for my other DD. This is Carla's pattern..Simply Sweet. I had to lengthen the bodice peice though, to fit Minnie in. Oh yeah, I bought her at Joanns. Too bad I can't applique like that!

Cute! I love the pink ruffled straps with the purple princess fabric, well done! And the daisies! I have the pink daisy fabric just sitting, wondering what to do with it. I didn't know it came in the other colors too. Your Minnie applique is fabulous, lol! We won't tell where it came from!

Stephres Oh good, that is basically what I was doing! The only thing I see differnent is that I traced at cutting line A and not B. Should I trace to cutting line B?

I actually sat and down sewed on my own this morning! :scared1: I think I did ok, so we will see what my mom says tonight. I have the bodice of the YCMT criss cross dress completed! I went super slow, but I think it looks pretty good.

I think you're good. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see it. Let me know how the criss crosos dress comes out, it looks like a cute pattern.

Ok, I need to get off the computer and get sewing, lol!

Here is what I have been working on lately:
th_DSC00464.jpg

I totally CASED this one! I am still not completely happy with the bottom, but oh well.

th_DSC00467.jpg

this it the new round neck top from YCMT with the easy fit pants. I think i am going to like this pattern once I get a few more under my belt.

I love the cindy dress! And the new round kneck pattern dress is cute...I am not ready for that one!

This is what I made today. I used the circle neck pattern...which is a little wonky, with no facing..but I got over that...LOL.
Pardon the color of the fabric. It was almost dark when I took the photos. The yellow is very bright in real life...:)
th_IrelandandLexieChristmas20072287.jpg

And with the risk of going to Disboutique jail...ignore the hair..

Love your fabric choices. All these round neck dresses make me want to make it too!

Oh, I forgot, I did something for the "everyday collection" yesterday. I was so frustrated with the petti I put it all away and pulled out this clearance fabric I got. I copied the shirt from :wizard: and I made a skort (with pockets!) for the bottom. It only took a couple of hours and Megan is pleased with it.

th_IMG_0505.jpg

th_IMG_0506.jpg

Very cute. I need to make some more everyday outfits. I just finished one last night at 11pm. Post it later...

Hi guys, I thought I would show you the newest things that I have been making. Something for the other love of my life!

Bags and wallets!

DW loves the Ver@ Br@dley bags, so I thought I would come up with a different version!

This is one for her friend. She picked aqua colors, not my favorite color, but I think it still turned out pretty good, except for a few of my "goof ups".

Bag and Wallet:

Inside of wallet:

(I accidentally put the zipper in upside down! Zippers are not fun!):sad2:

!

Very pretty! I love hand made bags. My mom has made herself several to go with different outfits...now I know where my dd13 gets her bag obsession from!

Ditto on the zippers! I just finished an outfit with a zipper and it was not fun!

This project has been in my "To Do Pile" FOREVER! I finally made Lily's big face Tink outfit. I used 1 pillowcase and 3 Tink fabrics (thank you so much Anna) :thumbsup2 I am actually very happy with how it turned out! I LOVE the long ties and I used Lisa Zoe's idea of the buttonhole elastic :dance3:

th_IMG_0254-1.jpg

It came out great! I love the idea of the adjustable elastic! I need that in my clothes!

I absolutely love all of your creations! I have tried to copy some of the creations but you are all much better at this than I am. I can't wait to look everyday to see what is new. I will post pictures when I am allowed to.

GO NAVY BEAT JOHNS HOPKINS!!!! My DD is at the NCAA quarter finals today. Lucky Ducky. My Mom is the Admin Assit for Navy Lax so they are in the sky box. Of course DD needed to be properly dresses. :)

th_DSCF9091.jpg

Very cute!

Hi Everyone...

Can anyone tell who they are?

Love the princess outift. I love that material. We have it and have made some dresses out of it! The minnie outfit is cute too. I thought you did the minnie...so just pretend you did!

made this last night for DD - she again was making a strange face/pose. She doesn't like the outfit (says it looks like a dress), but I'm hoping it grows on her -yet she won't take it off

Hey everyone....again I am far far behind. There is just too many new and beautiful things to comment on. I'm very inspired. I had a question, maybe someone can help me. I am making a sailor style custom for Violette to wear for 4th of July and I want to make a sailor collar but I have no clue how. I got a lot of inspiration from an outfit that servane from monalisa boutique made for her summer 2008 collection. I'm basically trying to recreate what she did with a few of my own ideas thrown in. Could anyone give me some tips or maybe a tutorial on how to make it? If you go to her website and look at the spring/summer collection for 2008 you'll see what I'm talking about :) Thanks so much!

...WELCOME HOME TERESA JOY AND HEATHER SUE!!!!!

party: :rockband: :disrocks: :welcome: :welcome: :rainbow: :grouphug: :cheer2: :jumping3: :jumping1:

I am sure you all are trying to catch up on some much needed sleep and then digging out from under Mt McLaundry... :laundy: :laundy: side effects from a Disney Trip! Can't wait to see and hear all about your trip!!!!! :woohoo: popcorn:: :yay:

Cute! I bought that fabric in the flannel and made my daughter a rest mat. Flamingos rock! I hope it will grow on her.

Ok, this will work I think. I scoured JoAnn's looking for matching fabric that had the same feel as the petti and I settled on this nursery fabric that had squiggles on it. Now if I could figure out what to do with that Alice fabric I would be happy! Everything I want to do needs more fabric than I have. I am thinking a peasant dress with the apron in the coordinating fabric. I don't know. :sad2:

Oh, wait here is Megan (and Scrappy):

That is adorable! I've been thinking about making another sailor dress so both my girls have one & I may have to copy that one. Too cute!

For the collar, I have a pattern somewhere that I used for the dress I made dd2 for her birthday. I'll dig it out & scan the pic of the collar piece so you have an idea of how it looks.

I need a hat pattern though.

I did just that! Jersey girls think alike! :cool2: I decided after looking out the window once more and seeing him pacing back and forth that I was just going to call the "non emergency" line and ask a question. The dispatcher said they would send someone to just drive through the neighborhood. That did the trick. The cop drove through and suddenly the pacing stopped and he went back into his grandson's house. Then the cop called MY house and gave me a description of the guy just to make sure that it was the same man that he saw walk quickly into the house. I confirmed that it was. He was very nice and told me that now that the police are aware of the behavior and actually witnessed him doing it that all I needed to do was call and they'd arrest him for SOMETHING!:lmao: He also said he'd start driving through the neighborhood daily to make his presence well known!:lovestruc THANK YOU New Jersey's Finest! :goodvibes

didn't see the guy again...but that could be b/c of the rain!:confused3

cute cute CUTE outfits too!!! I LOVE the Minnie outfit!!! So cute with the flowers!!!

What the heck is wrong with people? I hope he goes away soon!

I forgot, idiot proof pattern. I would seriously try something by CarlaC, she is really great for beginners. Or look at Teresa's bookmarks for a twirl skirt or pillowcase dress. You don't even need a pattern for them, just some math skills (I know you have mad math skillz, right?). Good luck and I can't wait to see what you make!

Did you read the post where i divulged the shameful and embarrassingly LOW score I got the math portion of the SAT? So bad that my guidance counselor thought the only way it could have been that bad was that I must have gotten up and abandoned the test!:lmao:

I don't have a lot of math SKILLZ...but Jay does, so maybe he could help some...what about the easy fit pants from Carla C? would those be too ambitious for a very very skillz-less beginner? Would a skirt be easier?

Cute! I bought that fabric in the flannel and made my daughter a rest mat. Flamingos rock! I hope it will grow on her.

Thank you :) I really appreciate it. I love her designs, they are just so feminine. I couldn't find navy and white stripe fabric so I am doing red and white stripes. I'm basically doing opposite colors from what she did. And I'm going to use the beret pattern from ycmt for the hat.

I have a navy with big white polka dats & a couple of other nautical prints that I was going to use for a patchwork twirl. I love the top on hers though so I'm going to have to figure out how to combine them.

I have a cute beret pattern, but I really wanted to have the sailor hat. my uncle was in the navy & I know he'd just think it was the cutest thing ever.

This is the pattern piece. The square part obviously is the back of the collar. To do it the way she did you'd want the front to be longer. This is cut to just barely meet in the front not tie.

That guy sounded scary. I am glad they came by and he went home.

Hi Teresa and Heather! We are glad you are back but I bet you wish your trip wasn't over.

I have been reading along looking at all the adorable new outfits. Amazing appliques by Lori and Elisa!! :worship: A beautiful Giselle purse handpainted by AimeeG!

Tom's cute crayon holders and that beautiful bag and wallet. :worship:

Love the vintage machines! I am glad to come here and read it takes my mind off my sick schnauzer. She was diagnosed with Diabetes on May 1. So far she hasn't responded to the insulin. She still has a lot of sugar in her urine and the vet did a blood test on Friday and her sugar was even higher than when we took her in on May 1, before she had any insulin.

I did sew two crayon holders today for my kids. and I am working on a bag for my DD's teacher. I think it will be cute. But it isn't what I really wanted because I couldn't find the fabric I really wanted.
I'll post some pictures later.
