I'm getting sooooooooo frustrated with my 8 1/2 yo dd. will someone please tell me this too shall pass? She tells me she hates me doing her hair, all she wants is to do it herself and put it in a pony tail. That's it. So I went and bought pretty doodads for the 6 yo dd's hair because SHE still loves everything I do  and then the 8 yo got pissy because I spent 5 min doing her sisters hair and not hers. She sat on the sofa and pouted for a good 5 min. This goes with clothes too. I feel like all i ever do is butt heads with her and I do what she wants and then she hates it too. Waaaaahhhh!

This really does tie in to disboutique and i'm getting to that LOL I know darn good and well that if I make customs for the 1 yo and the 6 yo to take to wdw she'll be mad at me, but if i make her some she'll say they are too babyish and she won't wear them because someone will make fun of her. I hate this age! She's only flipping 8, why can't she understand that she's not a teenager and that she's still a kid. I can't ask her for her help either because it's a surprise trip! We aren't going till jan but I like to plan. What are 9 yo's wearing to disney?

I think I need to find a Saint for helping raise girls or something and say a few Hail Mary's, because coffee just isn't cutting it this a.m.

No 8yr olds here, but just reading I feel you pain:grouphug:
Maybe by the time she gets to WDW she wont be this way- hey maybe she will just fell the magic and be excited to put something special on.
My advice- sew for her anyway- some day, in the future, she will look back and see that her Mom loved on her, even when she wasnt being lovely back--that's the best kind of love!!

Oh, Ella and I are SO jealous!! How very cool that you got to meet Marie! I think Ella may have passed out cold if she actually got to meet Marie - so, it may have been a good thing we didn't see her - we might have had another head wound!:lmao:

Have a great next couple of days and a safe trip home!

We met her at MGM... sorry, DHS last December! My girls didn't want to let go of her!

I just have to say that it's a good thing you don't live closer to me or I'd have a houseful of those gorgeous labs!!!!!!

Jacob is on my lap while reading this (and he is too big to be on my lap, ouch!) and asked if that was snot on Jenna's face. I read him what you wrote and he said, "owww, poor baby, I don't remember seeing it on her face before."

I think her curls are just adorable! What a sweet face!
It's an odd scar, because sometimes you can see it reall well and sometimes not so much. I know that when she hits the teen years she will complain about it. I guess she will be allowed to wear cover-up sooner than I want.

I would make her some things that are little more for the tween age group. I think it is Simplicity that makes the Lizzie Macguire and That's so Raven Patterns. Those are cute without being too grown up.

As for the butting of heads that happens in this home too. I just stop her and give her options and tell her the consequences for both options and I let her know that it is her choice. I also tell her that whatever options she chooses she is also agreeing to accept the consequences. I have also stopped listening to her when she whines or tries to be the boss. I just tell her that she is using a voice that is hurting my ears and until she can talk regular than I can't listen. These two things are really making an impact on her. Last night I told her to clean her room (normally this takes her 2-3 hours to do (she plays alot)). Well last night I told her she had a choice to make clean her room and get a WDW surprise after her shower or don't clean her room and she won't get to watch tv before bed. Her room was actually cleaned (like momma cleaned it) in record time. I think she was happy with herself that she chose correctly.

I think I am going to break down and buy a machine this weekend! But I need suggestions for a very basic, beginner friendly machine. I was thinking of one of the Brother models from Wal-Mart to get me started. Any thoughts?

And I cannot remember who posted about it, but someone mentioned taking CarlaC's peasant top and making it more of a swing top. Did you just trace an "A" line top you had or do something different?

I have the very basic Brother machine from Wal-Mart I believe it is somewhere around $69.00 right now, I think it is on Rollback for the month. I like mine and it is very easy to use. I am in no way shape or form a master sewer either. Go for it.:cutie:

I don't know what I would do, but I completely understand. We ask my son every time if he wants to go to the Barber Shop at MK with his sister and he always says no. This time, after his sister got a lot of attention, he pouted because he "didn't get to go" to the barber shop. I think 8 is a tough age, they want to be older but they are still emotionally like little kids. Maybe make her a few embellished t-shirts so she can match the other kids and have something special but if she doesn't want to it's not the end of the world because you didn't spend that much time on them. That's what I do with my 8 year old. Of course, he is a boy and much easier.

After he said that, I had to think, I have never noticed it either and I have seen a lot more pictures of Jenna than he has! I am sure it will be much more noticeable to her than to anyone else though.

You do great work! Good luck with :wizard: !

I am such a sucker for bright colors and funs patterns, so I adore this!! The font you used for the applique is great! They are going to be thrilled with that outfit. :thumbsup2

ITA!!!

BTW, I will soon be coming out of lurk mode as well. I just started sewing, but I figure y'all will be fairly nice. I am very proud that none of my dresses for my 2 dd's have yet disolved or fallen off of my 2 girls...

Welcome! Can't wait to see what you make.

Hi Angela! I forget that Megan and Olivia are so close in age. We are right there too. Megan never wants anything done with her hair and she's very picky about what she wears. She doesn't like anything too girly or ruffly unless it's for a special ocassion. For our trip in December I stuck with appliqued t-shirts and short jumper/pillowcase type tops with ruffled capris. I made a couple for my niece who was 10 and she liked them too. The tops worked good because I could but either long or short sleeved tees under them depending on the weather. I can post pictures if you want to see. Also, check out Jham's trip report. She made some great stuff for her older DD to coordinate with her younger one.

So sorry!

Now you've got me wondering where you live. I used to live in Odessa. I flew in and out of Midland often!

This is VERY cute! I'd love to know what font you used as well!

We live in McKinney (a suburb of Dallas) so it takes him about 5-6 hours if he drives to get there and back. It is about a wash if he was flying from Dallas and back, but the fact that he drove from Tulsa to there is what drove me crazy! Plus, we could have used the airmiles since we are from St. Louis and it is such a long haul in the car that we usually fly home and as everyone knows, four tickets is so expensive! Grrr, I'm pretty much over it now and I was actually nice to him when I spoke to him this morning. Maybe by the time he gets home tonight at around 7:00 I won't have the urge to go and kick him in the shins! :)

I don't remember who made things for an older girl but I'm pretty sure it was possibly in the first thread. They made things for an early teenager I think that were so cute! I think they embellished a t-shirt and maybe a denim mini skirt with patches. I think it was a Minnie Dot pattern. If it is cold when you go she could just wear leggings under the skirt. It really was very cute for an older girl. Good luck. I know I have this to look forward too! My girls are just 4 and 2 right now (they'll be 3 and 5 this summer) and I'm sure that #3 is a girl too (but we'll wait and see!). My DH swears that once puberty hits he will start to travel full time and take the dog with him :rotfl2: ! They both already can get him pretty good at this early age!

I have the CE4000 Brother machine fro Walmart and I've been very happy with it.

I sent DH out to look at the models Wally had and this one is one of them. The gal in the fabric dept said this is a markdown special and I can get it for $70!!!! Guess what he is bringing home for me! CE4000

Man, trying to get caught up! My internet keeps going down. It was down all day yesterday and half the day before and most of the day Friday. It is driving me crazy. However, with no internet, I've been getting a lot of sewing, yardwork and laundry done!

I SOOOOO want to tell you all about something that happened at Epcot the other day, but I am trying to save it for my trip report! But, I will tell you that Lydia DID get to meet Marie while she was wearing her Marie custom!!! It was MAGICAL!!! Lydia was SOOOOO excited!!!
Here are some pictures:
Marie admiring Lydia's dress:

Marie was really cute and sweet! I am SOOO happy we got to see her!

I got tears in my eyes seeing those Marie pictures!

ETA: Lily just saw these photos and is now begging for a "kitty dress" pleeeese mommy pleeeese!

this is my first attempt at sewing since high school (20+ years) - I made it a size larger because we aren't going to DW until next summer.

I also made some slipcovers for our popup camper:

th_MVC-066S-1.jpg

Love the Tink outfit. So how did you do your seat covers? We got a pop up trailer 3 years ago and I keep saying I need to get some covers on those benches before the kids ruin them! I even took a cushion out and it spent the winter in my craft room just waiting to be covered. I just have no idea where to start--nevermind the 800 episodes of Trading Spaces I've watched! :rotfl: Are yours removable? Thanks for the idea of using Disney fabric! Now to find some that won't clash with sage green curtains...I'd love any advice you have, I've been very askeered of this project!

I have a few dollars left in my account and want to buy a ycmt pattern. Which one? These are the ones I am debating:

Carlac stripwork jummper
"" easy fit pants
" ruffled capris and pants
erin's designs ruffled halter tops
star bright desings adorbale cris cross top

which one???? I love them all!

I LOVE the stripwork jumper and easy fit pants! I've made both a LOT so I'll spare you the repeat photos!

Haven't had much time to post lately but I had to vent to someone who would understand. My mother in law called dh at work yesterday. Guess where she called from????? SOARIN!!!!!! They decided to take a spur of the moment trip and thought Disney would be fun. What on earth were they thinking not taking us with them?!?!?!??!?! I'm so totally green with envy I can hardly stand it.

meanies!

Hello ladies!

Whoever posted the crayon holder THANKS!:rolleyes1

As I was picking up Leighanna from school the other day the teacher said that she only had four crayons left, and wanted to know if she could bring a few more in to finish the school year.
Well... the creative mind that I have, remembered the crayon roll, so I "whipped" one up!
Leighanna took it to school the next day, and EVERYONE wants one now!
YIKES!:scared1:

So far I have made three more for her *BESTEST* friends, but I know I will be making more for some others!

I guess these will be little end-of-the-year gifts that she can give her friends.

Sorry I haven't posted much, but I do try to keep up. I love all the new customs that have been posted.

The only things that I have been up to are things for my wife and Mom for Mother's day.
A couple of new bags and matching wallets.
I have also completed the first three mystery quilt blocks from YCMT. I have a feeling that quilting might become my next obsession! Anxiously waiting on the next block!

But where are the pics Tom? I'd love to see your crayon holders w/names no less! I need to get started on those quilt blocks!

I am almost done remodeling my daughters room. I tried so hard to get her to do horses. She won though. It's an Ariel bedroom. One wall is purple, the rest a very pale yelow named "Good Morning Sunshine" I am very proud of the valence I made. It is from Ariel Walmart fabric. I then sewed some dangle trim. It is so cool because the trim is various shades of turquoise (sp?) but next to the purple sheer curtains, takes on some purple tones. It sparkles in the sun. Here is her bed with the "anti-monster" curtain. Did you know that this keeps out the monsters, so three year old little girls sleep "all by myself" now???

th_agmroom008.jpg

th_agmroom006.jpg

Very cute room! I love the "anti-monster" curtain. Too bad Lily's not afraid of monsters...so why does she end up in my bed?

Thought I would come out of lurk mode and share the packages we received in the mail a few days ago. The first set of pics is for our October WDW trip.
The second set is my 8 year old modeling her Biscotti corset dress that she will wear to her sister's rehearsal dinner in September.

th_100_1305-1.jpg

I just love the barettes they are so cute !

th_100_1299.jpg

She's starting to look so grown up :sad1:

cute outfits! Don't you hate it when they look grown up?

WHERE IS WENDY -- UTAHMAMA!!??

Seems like she hasn't been around in while, anybody know where she is?????

Saw her at Bonko/Bunko the other day. The girl is thinking about moving away from me!! So maybe she is busy getting her house in order (although knowing her love of order, it probably is already).

Oh my goodness!!! I showed Lydia that mural, and she was jumping up and down excited!!! That is so cool!!!

I didn't post a picture of my Snow White. I just threw it together after we got here. Like I said, it was not real flattering, but for you guys, I'll post a picture!
akpic.jpg

The pants were long, but I cut them off for capris and I tacked red ribbon on the sleeves of the shirt.

LOVE casual Snow White!

someone posted with cow print, farm animals and something else. Was something actually made with that? The fabric was really cute! I'd love to see the finished project.

also what does CASE stand for?

That was me. I love the fabric so much, I'm afraid to mess up. I just can't decide what to make, but my latest thought is some sort of apron dress. :confused3

I finally have another outfit to post. I don't know if some of you remember but a month or so ago I asked the question about pricing an outfit. A lady that is part of another message board with me was really wanting me to make an outfit for her little girl too (she's 3 too). I finally said "yes" and here is the finished product.

I am really pleased at how it turned out and I hope they will be too! I will have another skirt to share tomorrow. Parker's preschool class is having a teddy bear picnic and I made her a skirt to match a Gymboree top. I even made the bear a matching skirt!

I LOVE it! The colors are TDF! And I can't wait to see Parker's!!!

My DD is 10. She's not too picky about clothes yet, but her hair...don't get me started! She did it herself today (which always involves some sort of pony tail/scrunchie of some sort) :scared1: I just had to bite my tongue. She throws a fit whenever I do it.

Also, check out Jham's trip report. She made some great stuff for her older DD to coordinate with her younger one.

Thanks! I was going to suggest she check out my TR, it would be nice if I got around to updating it! If my internet stays up it should be today (although it IS housecleaning day :headache: ) DD10 liked her applique t's. Well, she liked everything. I bought her a really simple reversible halter top from Gymboree that I need to trace and make a pattern from. I want to make her a minnie dot top with it. I'm thinking/hoping that I may have a one day DL trip on June 8. DD10 and I are flying to L.A. for Dnephew's wedding and my sisters and I are each bringing one kid (a 17 year old and a 17 month old). Our choice is to go to the beach on Sunday w/my brother's family who live in Alaska, or ditch them and go to Disneyland :rotfl: we're leaning towards ditching them. :scared1: :rotfl: So of course DD10 needs something NEW to wear, just in case, right?

This is such a cute outfit!!! I may have to CASE the style!!

I love this outfit and I love the name Ainsley. I think that is what I would have gone with for our baby girl due in July if my husband didn't have his heart set on Mackenzie Madison.

I sent DH out to look at the models Wally had and this one is one of them. The gal in the fabric dept said this is a markdown special and I can get it for $70!!!! Guess what he is bringing home for me! CE4000
I finally ordered a new sewing machine two nights ago and I am so excited. It hasn't been shipped yet, but hopefully soon! I really wanted the Brother 6000i, it has gotten a lot of good reviews on here. But it costs about $180-190 and I didn't know if I wanted to go that high. Luckily I found it on Overstock.com. It is factory reconditioned, so we'll see how that goes, but I got it using a 10% coupon for $130 plus $2.95 shipping!! Now I am going to buy a ruffler foot and go crazy!!! I have fabric lined up out the door. HA!

:goodvibes This is the Tut I used! http://skiptomylou.wordpress.com/2007/04/25/on-a-roll/

Although, the crayons that I purchased are boxes of 24.

So, being that I could not throw that many crayons away, or pick which ones I wanted to use, I made my to hold 21.:headache:

Why 21 do you ask? Well, to save on fabric, I cut the fabric width wise, got 2 pieces approx. 22 1/2" each. That made room for 21 crayons allowing for the seam allowances.
Also the interfacing that I bought was 22 1/2" wide, so it made for a lot easier rotary cutting!
I threw out the white crayon (who uses white anyway:confused: , unless your are coloring on dark or black paper.) And also got rid of a couple of other colors that don't quite fit the rainbow spectrum!;) (At least in my world!:snooty: )

Don't worry, I didn't really throw them away! We will use them around the house or in some other craft project somewhere!

Hope this helps!

I might even try to get a picture of them when I am done!

Pssst! Tom!

Save the white crayons. They're handy for wax resist. Easter eggs or anything else you might dye or paint.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my newest creation and my BIG news! ...

...and the news is......that I have finally decided to try to start selling my bows and creations on ebay. i have spent months trying to perfect my skills and this dress and the comments that it has recieved out and about was the last push to get me started. I have one listing up and need to take pictures of 2 more sets and create listings for them tomorrow. Wish me luck ladies, this my be my last way to fund our Disney trip this fall for Mark's homecoming.

Congratulations on your eBay decision! Wishing you lots of luck! :)

And I really don't want to do a lot of bodily harm to him, I would maybe just like it if he stubbed his toe or had a hang nail that hurt!

Sounds like Dad wanted a break! *LOL* Hope everything smooths out when he gets home.

Think more mature versions of what you're making for the younger ones. Eliminate the ruffles and bows and cutsie stuff that we love. Use patterned fabric as accents rather than the primary fabric. You could still make a cool twirl skirt as part of a dress, just tone it down a bit. That way she can be a kid while she matures a bit. You can do Disney appliques or a couple of special tops for Disney visits.

I don't know about where you live, but there's a lot of peer pressure at most schools beginning at an early age now. Your DD is trying to find her place--and will with your guidance. When she becomes a bit more secure in herself, she'll worry less about what others think.

It's funny. My mother thought it was terrible when my peers wanted to be grown up at age 12. The next generation was around age 10. Now it's down to age 8. Rather sad, actually. They're missing the fun of childhood!

Quick question about the crayon roll-ups...is the fusible interfacing just to keep the 2 fabrics together or does it serve another purpose?

I sent DH out to look at the models Wally had and this one is one of them. The gal in the fabric dept said this is a markdown special and I can get it for $70!!!! Guess what he is bringing home for me! CE4000

   That's a great deal. I thnk it's normally around $130. Enjoy!

Quick question about the crayon roll-ups...is the fusible interfacing just to keep the 2 fabrics together or does it serve another purpose?

I think it's mostly to stiffen the roll-up and help it hold it's shape. That's the idea when I've used it for purses.

Quick question about the crayon roll-ups...is the fusible interfacing just to keep the 2 fabrics together or does it serve another purpose?
Maybe I can answer that considering I just made 18 of them!:scared1:

The fusible interfacing gives it a little body. Also makes sewing the rows of stitching for the pockets easier.

Hope this helps!

Now to find the camera!

I just got back from my Joann's and they still have the crab fabric. I think it is a Joann's exclusive fabric. The pattern for the hoodie was McCalls #4644.

Here's a close up of the fabrics...

I've scoured every bolt of fabric at my Joann's and can not find this. Would anyone be willing to look for me? I'll pay for shipping, etc!

and the news is......that I have finally decided to try to start selling my bows and creations on ebay. i have spent months trying to perfect my skills and this dress and the comments that it has recieved out and about was the last push to get me started. I have one listing up and need to take pictures of 2 more sets and create listings for them tomorrow. Wish me luck ladies, this my be my last way to fund our Disney trip this fall for Mark's homecoming.
That is a gorgeous dress and I love the bows. I have already added you to my favorite sellers list so I can keep an eye on your auctions.

I LOVE it! Such nice and bright colors.

I'm going out of town, but would be happy to look for you when we get back on Monday if no one else finds it. Let me know.

It's an odd scar, because sometimes you can see it reall well and sometimes not so much. I know that when she hits the teen years she will complain about it. I guess she will be allowed to wear cover-up sooner than I want.

I worry about Emma too - she was bit by a dog when she was 5 - but as time goes on it gets less visable. The biggest thing left is the bump of scar tissue left. We chose not to have it fixed more - it doesn't bother us of course - but will leave that option open for her to choose when she is older. She mentions the bump from time to time and asks when it will go away. We were really good about putting Mederma on it the first year and also make sure to use sunscreen on it all the time - I think that helped a lot. Here are pics of the day she was bit, and the second was taken at Animal Kingdom in Sept. We took that pic after she lost a tooth while watching the Nemo show - she is showing us the "hole" LOL!

Lori - Megan has a very similar scar from when she split her lip open on a coffee table when she was 2. The bump seems to get smaller all the time, but she still has that tiny notch where her lip line doesn't quite match up. Emma's looks even better than hers in that area so I bet it Emma's will become less noticable too. I had never noticed either of the scars in other pictures.

Here are a couple of pictures of the crayon rolls that I made.

I was able to squeeze a couple of crayons in one pocket, so no crayons were harmed in the making of this project!:goodvibes
