Hi all. I haven't posted in a while b/c life has gotten in the way but let me start by saying everyhing ya'll have made is CUTE!!! I started the mouse made Cindy dress yesterday and let me say I HATE comercial patterns. I'm using the word hate here! The instructions leave out steps and read like badly translate chineese. I know this, and yet I still attempt ot use one. I get the top put together and try it on DD and it is HUGE I made a 5. She is a 4 to a small 5 in clothes and I am making it for Nov so I thought a 5 would be fine. NOT she needs like a 3 in this one. AHHHH!!! I cut the new dress, but I am NOT starting it tonight, too fusturated!!!

I haven't had a chance to read through every thing so this may have already been mentioned. But I would really try to get some measurements from her.
A 12 in clothes isn't really the same as a pattern size 12. My oldest wears a 6 or 6X in clothes but for most dress patterns a 6 is way to big for her.

For your other question about wanting to make more than one size from the same pattern. I used parchment paper to trace the extra sizes onto.

Getting measurements of that child will never happen. I just dont see my SIL allowing me to get near her with a tape measure....And it would not surprise me if she really is a size 12.
They said they shop in the juniors dept or she wears a size "large"- Im assuming a child's large??? She is the biggest 7 year old I have seen. My husband commented for the first time ever that the babyfat used to be cute to him, but now she just looks unhealthy. She wears stuff I wouldnt put on a teenager myself- leopard print, mini skirts, and so on, so I was thinking I could start by making her something simple- like pjs and get her and her parents warmed up to the idea that I can in fact sew more than the pillowcases I make for her now, and have her feel comfortable and happy recieving handmade clothing from a aunt who loves her. And then I could work up to doing some tops- like I saw posted here earlier today- sweet and modest.

This is just THE cutest dress and picture ever!!! What a little dolly! This, to me looks like CarlaCs portrait peasant dress- with a combination of ruffled basic dress meets tiered rumba dress. Yes?
Can you try and tell me how you sewed all the layers together- in what order?

So, I haven't posted in a while, but here is a picture of dd birthday dress.

So precious! I just bought this same fabric a few days ago for my DD 4. She saw it in the area I said she could pick out anything she wanted and had to have it lol. (It was on clearance and then half off of that!) It was less than a yard but I am hoping to put it with something else and make a jumper lol. I love the way you used it! Sooo cute! :goodvibes

You are off to a great start! I love the earring in Mickey's ear!
Well I quoted the wrong person just saw this but I agree I love the earring! I did shirts last year with pirate mickey and I wish I would have thought of that! Very creative!

:rotfl: :rotfl: Ok, I feel like an idiot! After all this time on the DIS, I JUST discovered he subscribed threads link. All this time I've been signing on, going down to the forum, looking for the thread, and then clicking on the check mark. Then I have to go back to where I was because if I was reading another thread when I was logged on, I would miss something here. I feel really stupid now! I can see how this is DEFINITELY going to be much more convenient!

:rotfl: Thanks for the laugh. I am sorry you didn't know about that area. I am impressed you have been finding your way back everyday! I would have surely been lost long ago had it not been for that great page lol.

Actually I was just on the YCMT website looking at the I Made This pictures and it is listed as the one by Dainty Designs. You could use Carla's pattern to do this though.

Here's why I haven't been sewing lately:

They are not the greatest and I had some spacing issues :lmao: The photos of the kids were supposed to be much larger. Anyhoo, it's done. I do like Chip and Dale though! I was at the school FOREVER today putting those up with Luke and Lily running around driving me crazy.

WOW!!! Those are great! I just have to keep telling myself... I don't need a Circut, I don't need a Circut, I don't need a Circut... :lmao: I sold some un-used baby items last week and I was going to just put the money away for a rainy day, but I may "invest" in a Circut instead.

Oh I meant the pattern for the dress:) I too, used the pattern from here for a tulle skirt. I've loved all 3 that I have done!

so was the dress hard to do? Were all of those ruffles a headache or fun??

I used the dainty designs peasant dress. It was a pain, but well worth it in the end. Ruffles aren't normally too bad, but with this many, it started to get really thick, so it got a little harder, but it really wasn't too bad. I will probably do more like this.

Well, I just sewed each one in order from top to bottom, but there is a small piece of fabric in between each layer to sew them to. The layers started to get a little thick, so if anyone has any better ideas, I would love to hear them! I am still new to this too!;)

Oh I'm glad I saw this...what size pattern does a size 6 need? DD wears either a 5 or 6 depending on the clothes but I'll definately being making everything a size six. Little bugger has a growth spurt every August...right in time for our yearly Disney trip...means I have to go buy her all new summer clothes for Disney (at least I get them on clearance!!!)

Most commercial patterns have measurements on the back so you can find the one that most closely matches your daughter. I try to match the "around" measurement (chest, waist or hip) and then lengthen. The patterns usually have lines to cut to shorten or lengthen the pattern.

CarlaC's patterns have measurements too, so you know how much fabric to buy for each size and which size your kid is. She is very good about that!

I'm just imagining all the little girls going home to tell their mom's to put socks in their hair... :lmao: I sure hadn't heard of it before this board, so I'm sure some of them haven't either! Her hair is adorable btw.

Remember the game telephone? I just laugh when I think what the girls must come home telling their moms. I am sure Megan's instructions are not the most accurate and then telling other kindergarteners, lol.

Mom, I have to sleep on a bed of socks so my hair will be curly like Megan's.:rotfl:

If I were doing this, what I would do is start at the bottom. Ruffle the bottom layer. Attach bottom ruffled layer to a straight piece that it is attached to on top of that. Ruffle the second to bottom ruffle. Attach the second to bottom ruffle to the top of the straight piece that is now on top of the bottom ruffle, and at the same time attach to a straight piece that will be at the top of the second ruffle. (like a little sandwich, top straight piece, second ruffle, bottom straight piece) Ruffle top piece. Attach top ruffle to the top of the straight piece that is now on top of the second ruffle, and at the same time, to the top (another little sandwich - top, top ruffle, bottom straight piece that has all ruffles attached to it by now). So. you'ld have 3 thicknesses going at a time.

That's just what I would do.

ALSO, are the ruffles doubled? If so, that added a lot of extra thickness. Didn't think of that. Of course, that could be alleviated by hemming the ruffles instead of doubling them.

Thanks for the advise. I may try that next time, & yes, they are doubled. I just find it easier that way, but you are right, it is much thicker that way. I don't think sometimes! :confused3 I knew I could count on you people to help out!:thumbsup2

I just can't keep up with you guys!!!! I wanted to share what I just finished. These are for dd2 and dgd2 to wear to MK when dd7 wears her Cinderella custom. I didn't care for the Anastasia at first, but once I got Drizella finished, I love them together!!! Since I took these, I did attach a green ruffle to the front of Drizella and they are all packed for December!

Thanks, I have this pattern, so I guess I've now got to try it! How much fabric did you use for each ruffle and the bodice?

Oh I'd love if you could show pictures of that! I think I understand, but not totally? It would be a cool tutorial!

Those are so great. How long did it take for you to make them? I love all the patterns and colors. Fantastic job.

Sadly, I didn't keep track. It didn't seem like very much, but I am also working with a small size. The straight layers were really small.
