We've missed you ANNA!!!! I'm glad you are back!

I love all the outfits for the Big Love! You are all so talented!

So I am having an issue with my embroidery. HOW DOES EVERYONE EMBROIDER ON KNIT T SHIRTS?????

Please can someone help me??? I just can't do it! All I needed to do was to embroider Shamu on 3 little T shirts for tomorrow (now today). I have spent the whole night and I still don't have one done. I cannot seem to stabilize the T shirt. I am using tear away stabilizer, a ball point needle but it still comes loose each time I try. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sue

I don't know if Teresa's already posted this, but our SIL, Barbara, is scheduled for a mastectomy tomorrow morning at 8:00am. Prayers and/or good thoughts sent her way would be greatly appreciated. :goodvibes
Your SIL will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hope all goes well for your family.

Ok, here's the Donald dress on the model & with the sailor hat.

This came out adorable :)

I sat at my machine for 3.5 hours last night and did all of the stitching for the peasant top! I just need to add the elastic today and do the hem. I had a little trouble with the arm holes, but nothing too major. I think it looks right so we will know later today after the elastic is in (and try it on Erin before stitching it!).

I also have the Mickey colored criss cross top done. Erin wants to leave that a halter style, so I will try and get pics of her in it this afternoon after school.

Stephres Did you do a 1/8" or 1/4" hem on your A-line peasant?

We had a HUGE storm here today and a large tree of ours was hit my lightening, luckily most of it landed just below on the lawn, I dragged some stuff off the street- it looked like someone put a bomb in the tree the way it was everywhere. No power for much of the day, thus no sewing machine, and no laundry. Tomorrow will be a BUSY day.

DH surprised Megan and me- we watched Cinderella tonight for the first time with Megan. Love the end music- and I looked for all the different pink dresses in the movie!!

Oh...and I'm hoping to know if I'm pregnant or not by the time I get back from my trip.....:rolleyes1
We survived that same line of storms yesterday. One minute the sun was out, birds were singing. The next black clouds were overhead and the rain was going horizontal. Big flashes of lightening and loud booms of thunder. I hate thunderstorms, they scare the bejeezus out of me.
Good luck getting the PG test result you want. I hope to know next week too. It has been a long 7 months of trying for us.

I use sticky back stabilizer (on everything). I don't hoop it, I stick it to the underside of the entire hoop, wrap around and stick to the sides. Then I just lay whatever I'm embroidering on top of the sticky, and embroider. If it's soemthing that needs a little extra support, I float a piece of tear away under the hoop. I don't do that with tee's however. Hope you figure it out. I know how frustrating that is!

Stephres Did you do a 1/8" or 1/4" hem on your A-line peasant?

I follow the directions of CarlaC's peasant top, which calls for 1/4" seams. For the bottom, I usually add a folded over ruffle so there isn't a hem. If I were going to add a hem instead I would do a narrow folded one. I hope this makes sense, let me know if it doesn't! :confused3

Barbara update:
Her surgery is at 10:15am today, not 8:00am, so we don't have any news yet. We'll keep you updated!

Have you guys seen the new feature on YCMT yet? They have free video demonstrations now! The best part is you can see what CarlaC looks like. She has a video demo of the ruffler foot. Here's a link: http://www.youcanmakethis.com/index.htm?cnxtrk=295848#cnxSiteTop
She's very cute!
I haven't checked out all of the videos, but there are supposed to be some on there that show you how to crochet and stuff!
ETA: That link won't take you right to the ruffler demo, so just scroll down the the bottom of the page and you'll see it down there.

I don't know for sure, but have you tried using several layers of stabilizer? I do that sometimes when I machine applique on knits.

Look! It's Megan and Tessa making a campfire!:rotfl2:

GOOD MORNING LASSIES!!!

Hi! I actually got the idea to do the raincoat from some people on here. I don't think anyone has actually attempted it though. I got the vinyl at Hancock's. It has been on sale for 30%, but I don't know if that is over or not. If not it is $7.99/yd. If I remember correctly, mine had Nemo, Cars, Mickey, Pooh, and Princesses. I thought it would be great for a raincoat for Disney (when we do go in 2.5 years it will be December and we may get rain). Now I really just need a pattern of some kind, but I can't seem to find one. Well, that and to guess what size my daughter will be at age 2.5. I tend to plan ahead just a bit - a little OCD. :confused3

By the way - I remember reading your trip report a while back and just loved it!

Jess

I will NEVER apologize for being a neurotic over-planner again:rotfl2: J/K. Well, no, it does make me feel a little better...I wish you the best of luck w/ your rain coat, it is a great idea. We go in Oct. and usually the traditional summer storms are over but we can still get belts of rain from tropical storm systems, and even though I preach to EVERYONE to be prepared for ANY and all kinds of weather most times of the year in FL. I still ended up at Epcot in the pouring rain completely unprepared last year so I think the rain coat is a super idea!:thumbsup2 The bonus was the park was COMPLETELY empty and we walked on to almost all the rides we went on (except Soarin', don'tcha know.)
Also good luck w/ the remainder of your pregnancy I had 2 summer babies (in FL)and am hoping to avoid being at the end of my pregnancy in the summer EVER again. For one thing to spread out the freakin' birthdays!! My mom had summer babies (june 11 and Aug 20) My sister had summer babies (July 23 and Aug 28) and mine are June 20 and July 19 So just between me and my sister and our kids we pretty well have june-aug. covered:laughing:

Thank you to everyone who has congratulated me or cheered me on about the boutique offer. I am still uber nervous and change my mind almost by the minute. I have to order fabric and there are a few things I need to do, like optimize my ruffler foot, while I'm waiting for the fabric to arrive. But I suppose if I invest in the fabric and notions that I'll have to go through w/ it. And I'll need to figure out the serger. please, let that be easy.

HI ANNA!!! I haven't missed you at all.:rolleyes1
Glad you got some stuff done. I know we have a to do list a mile long. Most of the stuff we can't do b/c we are in the middle of an insurance claim w/ the house (we have a sinkhole) and we aren't allowed to repair anything until it's over which will be like in AUGUST:scared1: I am having a 5oth b-day party for my dad at the end of Sept. and I am really nervous about hosting 60 people at my house and on top of it I can't work on the house. So, I guess I'd better get Littles outfits done up before then so I can work on the house every day in that last month.:cutie:

SINCE I have been itching to sew and can't start on my togs I suppose I will put aside the YARDS of fabric I have plans for and get my BIG GIVE!!!outfit done. I'm terribly competitive and hate to be out shined and Jeanne and Angela have set the bar quite high.:worship: And I still need to learn how to make a decent bow:worried:

I was hoping some people that aren't sewing an outfit could help us out with bows and accessories. I really don't make very nice bows and I don't like doing it too much, either. So, I was really hoping a nice bow-maker out there could make some bows to match!

My model is at school, but here is the Minnie colored criss cross top:

That is so stinkin' cute! I've seen this style shirt a few times lately and I love it! What pattern is this (I'm sure it's been said, but I have had to skip so much I missed it)?

I agree. I stink at bows.

Very nice job. You should be proud of yourself.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Is there a way to change your needle position on your machine? I have a Babylock (same company as Brother) and the default needle position is left. My ruffler wants a center needle position, so I have to change it. Many machines you can put the needle in the right, center or left position (I havent figured out right on mine though!). My old non-digital machine would allow me to change position as well, so you should be able to! (crossing my fingers that it will and that you haven't already tried that!)

After a good night's sleep, and a HUGE mug of coffee - I took a look at the Brother machine and lo, and behold, the needle DOES change position! My 1970's machine doesn't, so that helps! Thanks for telling me though, if I hadn't read the instructions, I may not have known.

1.)On my machine, it will gather it up really tight, I was doing some ruffles that i needed gathered up to 1/3 of the original length, and I actually had to adjust it so it didn't gather it too small. The key seems to be going nice and slow. If you see it isn't gathering, slow down. I really love this method now!

ETA: make sure you leave some extra thread at the beginning and end of your stitches, in case you need to adjust the gathering. That way, you can make it loser or tighter.

I tried this on a scrap piece of fabric and it didn't work - I'm going to have to try again. I did get the ruffler to work, but I over gathered it and now I have to adjust it all by hand. I really didn't think I would have this much trouble with a simple skirt, but let's hope it turns out OK!

I hope to be able to post a photo soon, I really want to get this done!

Stephanie

It is the Adorable Criss Cross Dress from YCMT. I think it is Star Bright's (?) pattern.

Alright that's it Steph. When I'm done with my BIG GIVE outfit I am ripping Jenna's HSM shirt apart and redoing it.:rotfl:

Ok I'm willing to make matching for anyone who needs them for the BIG GIVE. A girl's gotta accessorize after all!! Besides I just bought 120 yards of various colored ribbons last night and I need to do something with it all. Please PM a pic of the fabrics that you will be using and I will match away.
